"Making money" is the biggest Co2 unleashing endeavour by far. Trapping science in hic-ups bursts in a linear narrative is not explanatory. Be well, the World is dumbed down enough to take your desires for solutive. You might reach for local fame and hoaxy glory. The Co2 in your case is released by your approach.

--"I'm inclined to think we're entering a new oligopolistic era. Just because these companies were recently start-ups doesn't mean they aren't entrenched"

Your comment is on start to end, just to add, these "companies", are nothing more then dystopian mirrors to the public, their fronts(all individuals in the public eye, greatest example of a nobody(Leon Musk)) are just second rate actors. The virtualization of "finance", it's moral justification, nothing more is at stake.

Real power, ...dwells in the shadows. This goes from the White House, to Hollywood, over Silicon Valley to Mar o Lago in the Swamp State.

The measure of a dollar between a billionaire, and a homeless dweller as to the price of a loaf of bread is meaningless. What counts is the grab for the hard assets, power, control, that probably starts at multiple billions. A second measure of any meaning is the time line power and influence can be stretched. A professional politician is seriously handicapped there, hence the proof of the above as to what is "wealth".

Re:How People Get Rich Now on Monday April 12, 2021 @03:10PM (#26783734)
Main substance left in the mist.

"Founders" and their trailers, are picked up and trusted to the sun because there is nothing else left to do with worthless money, to ride the inequality of the "investors" to u-p-p for free.

Loggerheads as Leon Musk might be "rich" but not in charge, and second tier as come to power. If one looks down to the Footlocker crowd, anything can mean "rich". The third dimension Sherlock of the article, time, how long will they last?

The author has a serious agenda to prone, or must be mentally incapacitated to not see ":)", after hoovering that long above the evidenced. Forbes?! what gives. Hard assets in time are still the only measure of value as to any group, cast, clan in existence!

Re:Screw it, I’ll host it myself on Wednesday April 07, 2021 @02:36PM (#26729025)
Looks like the author is undecided on what to push next. Hardware - software "solutions" are not the issue, his definition of what his data is worth, to him, as to the pushers as part of an overview of how to stump the global masses is still opaque to the author. F** the data, it is the amassed, filtered, analysed dataset that is globbed over the wire that matters. If the author really has some content with rationality in-built, originality expressed, it is probably half an a4 page in hand-writing. That would be his back-up(so as not to forget what in a bright flash came up in his processor-mind, the once in his life-time), as it would be his legacy to the world. His billing and buying patterns, with his earnings defining his prodigy of consumption not power who cares? What the glob tells about similar individuals, that is what power minds.

Above as to repaint the context, really... this article is as close to a reduction to "nothing" as can be conceived.

Re:Moore's Law for Everything on Tuesday March 16, 2021 @05:55PM (#26483623)
There was never in history a quest for the benefit of what is now a surplus population that has as only asset to pollute, contaminate, be parasitical and cannibalistic. Whatever stands for AI(no real definition in the lead text, just suggestive blabla), will be at the benefit of the immediate and power of the established few. Our "elites" are, were cockroaches. Between them and the latter surplus population there is a margin of whoring societals with some wackoo agenda not surpassing their primary drifts. The lower on the food chain, the cruder the desires for basic comfort.
Re:Moore's Law for Everything on Tuesday March 16, 2021 @05:48PM (#26483527)
Yes you are, very much so, a multiplication of what you yourself could theoretically approach in a life-time.
Re:Moore's Law for Everything on Tuesday March 16, 2021 @05:43PM (#26483463)
This way of thinking, as you draw the lines into the future, correspond to rational analysis. Could be called quality of goal-sets, as opposite to "crowing on a pile of dung" as is now the ongoing mindset of our elites. ...fascinating and not depressing the observance of reality, your way would be beyond and far of what is now passing for science, politics, societal engineering, technology layers without a grand design. It is not going to happen, goes against the history of mankind pointers. You Sir, must be one of the few, your status thus would reside in other then wealth and ego, you posess the suicidal gene!
Re:Moore's Law for Everything on Tuesday March 16, 2021 @05:21PM (#26483150)
To the author:

Stick to pealing the layer on top of what you see in your daily, AI, for now the only output being some analysis and synthesis for some data that has meaning, and is in the hands of a few, for the few. SQL for human data mongers.

The data in the public domain are one of many, botched, out of focus, wrong datasets, lack of context, a mix of right context, too limited scope to data... as is your own admitted supposition, of what you see is not what you suggest it would mean. Garbage in garbage out, a DdOS on AI is the big one to solve for now?

Add some inevitable layers, individual psychology, societal collective psychology, surplus population and their going rate of psychological settings, the list of variables "known" is endless, even more so are there hiding some very well known "unknowns".

Some serious contenders of raw AI are bluntly omitted, the size of the global population versus the index of resources of the iron-ore ball as is the planet. Relying on "money", a sublimated layer, to account for anything but a tool for social engineering, as is your outright omission to define at all AI, it's reliance on the most infinitesimal part of the few (humans), the outright wrong definition of wealth in it's relativity and dynamics, the USA as a definite part of the planet, derivatives of all and everything, i really do not know where to stop to end the rant.

As a remark to your artisan ready for consumption product page, ...it is not very data searches friendly, it has a very limited scope, it is suggestive of different proven fallacies, and has no definite declared vocabulary.

Are you to blame, of course not, as you suggest yourself AI and not "universal" human genie, as in disproportion of memory and processing capacity is to blame. As long as energy is infinite at the level of AI, the processing versus energy economy of the human brain, as is that even more energy efficient processing brain of say a raven, is largely overpowered in meaning as to the absolute (till now, not necessarily tomorrow), and the nano-technologies and biology of genetics), inferior scalability of human minds.

When crudely put, nano-technology, the biology of genetics (Corona probably), are serious contenders readily to cooperate. Again the case for lack of scope and context of the tease of your blog page.

Publish or perish well assumed, you Sir are desperately clinging to the flimsy single rope, trying not to drown. Jouralists and media, politics build a living on this, it is called a narrative. I am very convinced that you could come up with such, say every week or two.

Re:StrictMark: Markdown, Refactored on Thursday February 04, 2021 @04:09PM (#26029795)
Your theoretical and well contexted overview of the Web, your mininal formatting overhead (no googles and 5000 cubicles), (single person in charge of content and formatting) view is essential not trivial.
Re:Mnm – an open source project to replace email and SMTP on Saturday January 16, 2021 @06:15PM (#25806447)
Is there anything here that ssh protocol and derivatives, sshfs, scp, sftp, and then VPNs cannot do,

It seems an ill defined approach to protocol, mixing idiot proof user interfaces with the former. The license??? Looks and feels like another pair of sneekers. The functionality is all surrounding us, the innards (protocol), are many that can comply with the white-paper.

A text book example of money laundering, revolving door if you prefer the politically correct vocabulary, between elite individuals over the obfuscation of "corporation" and "administration". Similar to "high level" coding languages.

My question, are there still dumbstruck individuals to the point of not noticing?

Re:My stack is HTML+CSS on Thursday January 07, 2021 @02:20PM (#25675878)
The thing, auto-censureship should fit in, as well as the code a-n-d hardware life-lines, including how to reproduce the workflow outside of corporate claws.
Re:My stack is HTML+CSS on Thursday January 07, 2021 @02:10PM (#25675725)
You make sense. The high-leveling and not refactoring adds to the service industry of jobs and con-Z-umerism. Since they look in the mirror showing of, the mirror answers "awsome" for any new flimsy blob addition. It all starts with both: hardware and software, both should be tuned within your philosophy. See my initial post on this page.
Re:My stack is HTML+CSS on Thursday January 07, 2021 @01:55PM (#25675479)
The browser is the bitch. Out of control, bloated, willingly so, in interaction with layers of scripting on both sides. The server and client are bait. There should be a serious effort to tackle the world of academics and their use of analog tools for digital publishing. Nothing is better mined and searched(for any entity not meta-rapers that "employ" slave coders as battery-chickens) as text. There should be a tendency to reductionist auto-censuring or have coders but one ambition? Being scooped up by corporations for scraps so they can piggy back on their wild efforts for cents on the dollar?
Re:My stack is HTML+CSS on Thursday January 07, 2021 @01:36PM (#25675216)
Just meant to be humorous, does your brain not provide any illumination, while at it, do you have time and energy left to address other then software in itself, for adding to the cycle of aggregate rentier-ism?
Re:My stack is HTML+CSS on Thursday January 07, 2021 @01:28PM (#25675116)
My approach of theoretics goes in that direction, more or less accentuated on different goal settings. Your approach must work for you as for sheer efficiency. You will spend more time on relevant issues, if so desired, of producing meaningful content.

Now include hardware into the same philosophy, the long term into shelf live, a single programming language worked on by dedicated knowledgeable individuals ideally. You are on our side of things.

A page (web/print) should be written, locally, off-line, in the same editor of always, in open-source code, preferably the blob of compiled code at it's nucleus, if there is any neeeded also. Content should have a seven hundred year lifeline, readable, view-able in minimal software allowances. Then it cannot be said too often, hardware-software is in-extricable.

For all those that think phishing in the public domain for the soul of the crowds, well, that is fine, but nothing the matter. And be prepared for a frustrated life-time of scratching your itches.

Theodore Kackzinski, people who vouch for the "hundred year", robust hardware, for the fashion of the ages, they seem to be on the right side of history. That same observation de-obfuscates the evidenced in what is going on in AI, and statistics, mining data. ...when the data are repeats, high-level, junk, outright meaningless, no amount of AI or tweaking using computer power will assert anything but junk outcomes.

People scale badly, that makes for the most efficient workflow to be a-synchronous, for nuggets of which as an individual we have as a rule none, and few individuals very little, that sort of data merits a long life-line, that data need to be tailored for the above allowances as you point rightfully out.

You might be fake, or limited in your ambitions, but from what I read, I must concede you make sense before any back-ground check is at order.

Re:Ask HN: Any resources for developing low-code/no-code tools? on Saturday December 26, 2020 @03:51PM (#25546367)
Indeed sounds like circular reasoning, cannot come up with a sensible context to waste code on such a tool.

To jump the wagon, since it passes by, the former points to the latter: coders should stop their toddler approach to language. Streamline all possibilities and probabilities, all needs, problem-solving, into a single vocabulary, library, "framework". Make it a self-censoring effort, that opens up addressing the use-case of code: addressing problems in the real world, what can be called science, data-mining, AI, ...what frees the mind to the utmost, into what is possible. Do work that does not result in coder farms (thousands a la google), complexity and derivative overflow. Learn once, learn well, and be able to express your needs, in a language that does not change from tool to tool, from coder-critter to the next one. Cut the archane-ry, the brabbling, the proprietary obfuscation, the phishing for a "job" as an atom of some entity that redistributes the wealth to few and singular no-effort individuals, those who herd the energy of the workhorses and leave them empty hulls, spent consumers of their own making.

Re:Poll: Has media increased in BS the past month? on Friday December 18, 2020 @05:15PM (#25472746)
There is a racing condition, the middle-class (30-45) generational overlap is out of other options, or at the upper end is confirmed in being out of other options ...then BS'sing and begging. Our society has become parasitic, include universal income to complement former "welfare", weeding out the jobs that are valueless to society, the phenomenon is then bottom to top. Any twists on this scenario are dubious and implausible.
Re:The Git Parable on Friday December 18, 2020 @05:15AM (#25465674)
You are doing what? Describing and accentuating the link between low level comprehension, and high level utilities. A link mostly missing in software documentation. A great effort, not so much for it´s pertinency but as a theoretical exercise how software documentation, ---be it a README.md or a "book", should be conceived.
Re:GitHub Systemic Flaw on Thursday December 17, 2020 @12:55PM (#25458134)
The excerpt is meant as a comment to what the policies of Github really mean. The underlay: Github has been sold to Microsoft, a sell out of the real "free". Very much as the FSF holds no longer any credibility after dumping (literally and in silence Richard Stallman).
