Didn't you know part of release of a paper is part marketing to get maximum exposure?

A better idea is to have Astra modify it's own weights and let it try if it can RSI, but you gonna need to closely monitor for actual leap in capabilities so you can keep a check on alignment.

They talk a lot without allowing people to use it. I'm just used to OpenAI doing rollouts the first day they announce their models. Google just either make you wait 2 weeks or go on a waitlist. They are still the joke of the 3 headed dragon.

I would not get this because I want to run LLM's locally, you are really gonna get gpt 4 performance and constantly looking at the SOTA or the open models that needs way more to have it work practically, and without your laptop sounding and feel like a hair dryer.
Why can't Google just announce something and release at the same day, not always this stupid wait list stuff.

It's very simple right? If they don't hit ant AI walls, the demand to use it to improve [stuff], will not stop. If AI maxes out for too long it's gonna be painful because the narrative is gonna hurt them more than anything.

This has to be a backdoor planted by hackers, mess with the key gen, say is all good. Must be known since issuance.
Re:DeepSeek just open-sourced its inference engine
on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @09:11AM (#50165871)
the only advantage i see long run is they can get free contributions world wide to lower their engineering costs. In the short run, frontier labs gets to use some of the ideas.
Re:DeepSeek just open-sourced its inference engine
on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @09:08AM (#50165823)
how? openai can copy some of the ideas on top of their own. Smaller labs gain this tech without much development, but is isn't like they will magically beat frontier labs. Is a smaller deal than you think vs kami kaze.

Re:"I'm on a War Footing": Terry Tao and the Crisis in Math
on Sunday October 18, 2026 @08:57PM (#50147122)
I do believe after the initial shock mathematicians will be able to use their math knowledge to solve practical problems, instead of lets solve this conjecture, prove this age old math riddle, how the pattern is possible. They may have some uses in fringe areas, but it doesn't seem all that useful. These guys are obvious quite brilliant, so when they combine it with other fields which they can branch to due to LLM's, they can still stay relevant. Ask your software engineer how that went.
Re:"I'm on a War Footing": Terry Tao and the Crisis in Math

I remember just last year he said the LLM were like incompetent assistants, but not completely useless. The tech advances are mind boggling just looking back at that.
