Re:Architecture of Nautilus, the new Dropbox search engine on Friday September 28, 2018 @09:11AM (#18093002)
keybase's kbfs is my dropbox-style replacement. It works really well in my experience
Re:Mmm, Pi-hole on Wednesday September 26, 2018 @02:20PM (#18078778)
You can use uBlock Origin in Firefox on Android, and I've found DNS66 to be a good non-rooted adblocker on Android.
Re:Ask HN: What podcasts do you listen to regularly? on Wednesday September 26, 2018 @03:56AM (#18073729)
Check out newpipe, it's in f-droid. It supports audio-only with the screen off, and downloading audio from videos.
Check out keybase, I've been using it as a Dropbox replacement, and it works pretty well. Its file access on mobile is still in development, as is everything else.
"Runners who improved their performance in Vaporflys and then switched to other shoes got slower.

There were very few runners in our data who met this criterion: We counted just 24 such races. But these runners finished about 7 percent slower on average than they did while wearing the Vaporflys. (Of the 24 races, 17 races were slower, and 7 were faster.)"

Re:Keybase Exploding Messages on Thursday June 21, 2018 @12:26PM (#17366573)
But it's not the same device, in removing your old operating system you've removed the device keys keybase uses for encryption.
50 minivans!
That happens to a lot of college graduates I know. They stopped for me around a year or so after graduating.

$OLDPWD also holds the previous directory.
Re:Ask HN: What books do you keep on your desk? on Wednesday April 04, 2018 @01:13PM (#16756787)
Machinery's Handbook and some GD&T reference books.
I'm using firefox and the website functions normally.
No, since there are fewer articles being submitted to the journals, they need to accept and publish more of them to meet their quotas.
You can use gadgetbridge, it's available on fdroid! I use it all the time, no pebble app for me.
Re:Reach for Markdown, not LaTeX on Sunday February 18, 2018 @07:43AM (#16405792)
It's nowhere near as nice in my, and lots of other people's, opinion. Just because people don't like it doesn't mean they haven't used it. Also, word's actual typesetting can't touch latex. I wouldn't want to use word for anything, let alone something that requires a large equation.
Re:Let’s talk about usernames on Monday February 12, 2018 @08:54AM (#16358516)
To solve this problem in part, keybase exists. At its core it's a proof-of-identity service, with some fanciness on the side. Sure it doesn't fix the root of the username issue, but it helps a little bit, while having cool things like kbfs and kbp.
I don't get the point of this comment. Are you criticizing the current state of cryptocurrencies, or are you implying that investing your life savings in an exchange is somehow safer than keeping it on a USB key?
Re:Scientists find massive reserves of mercury in permafrost on Thursday February 08, 2018 @03:55PM (#16335524)
There is US-gram. See slug, pound-mass.
Re:DNS over HTTPS on Wednesday January 17, 2018 @12:12PM (#16169648)
Not sure if you're trolling, but the network is being accessed by bypassing the captive portal. The network is being accessed in a way that isn't permitted.
Re:Ask HN: What encrypted Dropbox alternative do you use? on Thursday December 21, 2017 @10:50PM (#15985141)
Keybase. It's a pretty great overall service, with its encrypted virtual file system being just one of them.
That's a LaTeX habit for a lot of people, chill out.
Re:AMD takes on Intel with new Ryzen processors for laptops on Sunday October 29, 2017 @04:06PM (#15581110)
Is 100% faster equal to 1.00x?
Re:A Visit to a Synthetic Cadaver Factory on Sunday October 29, 2017 @10:07AM (#15579350)
Compared to real cadaver labs? No, not at all.
Re:PureVPN Logs Helped FBI Net Alleged Cyberstalker on Monday October 09, 2017 @07:29AM (#15432959)
Or, you know, Google told the authorities. All I see is that PureVPN keeps the user's email on file.
