Same thing as with SpaceX. If there is that much of an equity buffer, it should be investment grade. That it isn't means that the bond market doesn't trust the valuations at all.
Re:Google AI gets cagey when asked who won the 2020 elections on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @05:29PM (#50281166)
Yeah, it's special cased for US users. It is also not robust. People are having fun circumventing the censoring by asking it to answer like a cat or something.
Re:Google AI gets cagey when asked who won the 2020 elections on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @05:23PM (#50281096)
It behaves different for US users compared to users outside of it.

If you ask DeepSeek about Tiananmen Square inside China is that also just a bug?

Re:No Signs of AI Payoff Outside the Tech Sector on Saturday October 24, 2026 @06:19PM (#50225968)
This only works if you are the only one selling the machined aspirin. Or you build a cartel of apirin sellers to do some price fixing.
Maybe they did it like SpaceX and sold their compute to a competitor and are booking that as sales.
Re:Tesla Roadster on Saturday October 17, 2026 @04:58AM (#50129218)
Some like Sam Altman cancelled it. So seems cancellable at least. But yeah, free loan.
Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @07:18PM (#50126064)
You could first reserve the roadster in 2017. So in about 10 years, they'll "reveal" the next version.
Re:My old job feels distant now on Friday October 16, 2026 @02:04PM (#50122013)
If you are not paid to work on it you can just ignore those.
Re:Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged men on Thursday October 15, 2026 @11:56AM (#50105537)
If it is a self-driving car then it can do recursive self-improvement. Then we are either post-scarcity or it kills us all. Either way it wouldn't make sense to worry about employment.
If you have to defend it yourself why pay taxes? Why not use the money to hire your private army instead?
There has been a (unfortunately recent) shift in the view towards China in the EU. So the US and EU would be natural allies when it comes to dealing with Chinas export led growth strategy. The Huawei thing was before Russia where everyone was still a bit more optimistic.

China depends on market access for its growth. So the US & EU have a pretty big lever, they'd just have to use it and not chicken out when it hurts a bit.

Re:Amazon pushes up prices across the Internet on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @11:36AM (#50089348)
They are not allowed to do this in the country I live in.
Well, it would not be an easy answer. Currently China is openly "it is in our interest this continues". So US & EU could coordinate to make it in Chinas interest that this does not continue (problem: rare earths, so maximum effort to fix that first). Once China is aligned totally isolate Russia.
The drones themselves build a mesh network during an attack. Russia does this as well.

I would also guess it is not that hard to setup a base station? With Operation Spiderweb they were able to start the drones from enemy territory...

Re:How Protein Took over the World on Saturday October 10, 2026 @06:00PM (#50037623)
I don't doubt it's healthy, perhaps via reducing insulin spikes. But the question is if it is the cause of the mysterious increase in colorectal cancer.
Re:How Protein Took over the World on Saturday October 10, 2026 @01:35PM (#50035176)
Are there studies showing the increased cancer rate is caused (or at least correlated with) reduced fiber intake? Or is this just a guess of yours?
Re:The AI Race Just Got Awkward on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @12:29PM (#49911033)
I'd call it overcapacity instead. A lot of investment without capital discipline making sure there is actually return of investment leading to too much supply.

Not that OpenAI, Anthropic or SpaceX aren't doing the same.

Re:September 2026: The world today, as seen by one Polish guy on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @05:19AM (#49906371)
"Europe’s potato belt tells the story in a single season." -- sure, no LLM at all. And why a single season, isn't it a story over two seasons?
2025 SpaceX launches carried payloads from outside customers only 43 times. Most of it from US govt. The launch market it simply tiny and not growing much.

Luckily SpaceX pivoted the narrative just in time to be an AI company, not a Space company. We'll see what the next narrative will be, if any.

Re:Paul Graham on LLMs 'Thinking' on Friday September 25, 2026 @04:18AM (#49841653)
And we learned that if one is in the business of copying other peoples thoughts, copying thoughts becomes thinking.
Re:Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity on Thursday September 24, 2026 @03:34PM (#49835776)
That would be an argument against trying a different source
Re:Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity on Thursday September 24, 2026 @03:33PM (#49835761)
Yeah, of course I tried to drink more water. I also tried to ramp up the dose slower.

But the cramps are really debilitating, as in random back muscle locks up debilitating, so I thought it best to just give up on this.

Re:Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity on Thursday September 24, 2026 @02:50PM (#49835189)
I get severe cramping from it (reproducible). All I can find are papers about this being a myth and some reddit threads about other people having this.
This would work for an ad shown on ChatGPT and then clicked on (or in the ChatGPT app).

But it would not give ChatGPT information about which other sites are visited.

Of course there would be non-cookie options like fingerprinting (also via IP) that would allow tracking non-the-less.

So you might be talking with OpenAI about your marriage problems and then based on the IP the OpenAI ad network would start showing ads for divorce lawyers on unrelated sites you browse to that display ads.

The solution to that would be using a VPN.

MDN lists how different browsers prevent this: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Privacy/Guides/...

Firefox, Brave and Safari do. Chrome and Edge do not.

Sounds more like an ops position to me and less software engineer.
Re:On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @03:33PM (#49615688)
Easy to ask for the account used to see if its usage went into training data. Also easy to say "Knowledge cut-off of the used model was date X".

That they don't is telling.

IRIS² looks on track? Granted, it is not a SpaceX competitor for consumer Internet. But it is an alternative for applications where reliance on SpaceX is not prudent.
Re:How accurate have Ed Zitron's AI skeptic predictions been? on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @07:11PM (#49529552)
As far as I understand GAAP reporting standards actually require them to report gains on those positions as "earnings". But they do report non-GAAP earnings sometimes excluding them. E.g. Google earnings per share last quater is $9.11 GAAP vs $2.85 non-GAAP (mainly because of SpaceX shares).
