Re:OpenSc3k – SimCity 3000 Open Source on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @08:31PM (#50360522)
OpenSc3k is an open-source C++ reimplementation of SimCity 3000 Unlimited. One small native executable for macOS, Windows and Linux, powered by SDL3 and the resources from your own copy of the game.
Re:Midjourney Medical on Wednesday June 17, 2026 @11:06PM (#48580229)
Will there be a way to use this scanner for people that are unable to stand up because of a disability or medical condition?
Re:ZFS 2.2.0 (RC): Block Cloning merged on Tuesday July 04, 2023 @07:39PM (#36593880)
If I manually deduplicate/copy a 1GB file, how many such offset/refcount tuples would be created in RAM? Just one for the whole file, or one per underlying 128kB block?
Re:ZFS 2.2.0 (RC): Block Cloning merged on Tuesday July 04, 2023 @03:23PM (#36591457)
A M A Z I N G

Have been looking forward to this for years!

This is so much better than automatically doing dedup and the RAM ovehead that entails.

Doing RAM/in memory size optimizations seem like a really good optimization path. In the spirit of also paying only what you use and not the rest.

Edit: What's the RAM overhead of this? Is it ~64B per 128kB deduped block or what's the magnitude of things?

Re:Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES) re-implemented in C on Monday January 30, 2023 @07:48AM (#34578963)
The screen transition and text scrolling is not as laggy as on the SNES.
Re:Open Source Game Clones on Friday June 07, 2019 @08:43AM (#20123957)
All the assets were recreated by various designers/people. In the early days it depended on the original game's resources.

Nice to see this list. I'm the original author of both ScummVM and OpenTTD. Feel free to ask me anything :)
Re:WireGuarding the mainline on Thursday August 09, 2018 @09:14PM (#17729942)
TunSafe is Open Source nowadays so most of those caveats are moot.
Re:I made my own WireGuard VPN server on Sunday August 05, 2018 @12:07PM (#17691966)
I don't want to lose control over it. If I open source it then anyone could just take it and rebrand it and pretend it's theirs.
Re:TunSafe WireGuard Client for OS X on Sunday March 11, 2018 @12:58PM (#16563724)
There are some benchmarks here https://www.wireguard.com/performance/
Re:TunSafe WireGuard Client for OS X on Sunday March 11, 2018 @12:44PM (#16563661)
Yes - that's what the WireGuard author did. I didn't even discuss TunSafe.
Re:TunSafe WireGuard Client for OS X on Sunday March 11, 2018 @12:41PM (#16563643)
Also the official not-ready-yet WireGuard cross platform Go/Rust clients require this "scary" driver.
The only 'supported' WireGuard implementation that exists is written by you in C, yet you complain that my C++ implementation lacks memory safety. Where is the logic?
No, it's implemented in C++.
As the author of TunSafe and µTorrent, I wonder if you base that statement on facts or is it just an attempt at spreading FUD and general dislike against non open-source applications?
That's correct! (Yes I read HN)

We did not have the resources to make a Mac and Linux version unfortunately.
Re:Ludde's FPGA NES on Monday January 21, 2013 @09:52AM (#5091692)
I agree, his project is very cool. Kevtris is where I got the inspiration to make my own FPGA NES from. I also mentioned him, and linked to his web page, in my blog post.

I updated the article after seeing his remark.
