I agree that Europe as a collective is lagging behind. But, without the EU it would be much worse. Imagine having to deal with each members’ bureaucracy with rules that might contradict each other. That’s where we were. For trade and collaboration within the EU this is preferable. Even for countries outside this is beneficial: you only need to consider one set of regulations and tariffs.
While writing this, the thought occurs that having a single authority and regulator puts little checks on the amount of regulation. Whereas multiple competing countries could limit it to not have their own industries at a disadvantage. The EU, of course, has this in relation to China, US, etc., so I don’t know…
Not payroll but 15 years ago I worked in a fairly large company where billing (in a smaller subdivision) was completely reliant on excel.
According to the article the Agency for Digital Government (Digitaliseringsstyrelsen) initiated a pilot in spring 2025 to use Collabora[1]. A General Election was called (not related) which put the project on hold indefinitely. No plan to pick it up agian, and no evaluation is planned.
The article mentions that the (38) test persons had reported some frustrations with typography, and track-changes during the test.

I actually made this as a skill last week. It is helpful. Especially when reviewing a PR with 1500 LOC from a non-dev. It keeps me focused an helps me do a structured review. But it does not catch poor decisions, like calling the wring endpoint a such.
I also hate reviewing my own ai generated code. Worse; it’s impossible for me to keep focus. So I created a skill to keep it interesting. It’s nothing more than a prompt that asks the ai to ask me questions about the code. Starting at high level, like ‘Describe the core responsibilities of X, Y, and Z in a sentence or two. From that it goes deeper. It is also instructed to summarise based on my answers. If I give a wrong, or vague answer it will flag it as code that might be problematic.
Mostly, this helps to keep me focused and really understand the code. It’s not perfect. On two occasions a secondary human review found a critical bug, like calling a non-user-facing endpoint (but with similar name).
I sense sarcasm. But I think you misinterpreted the parent’s point. I read it as: yes, Carmack has made huge contributions but, has not publicly released anything noteworthy since the advent of AI coding. Of course that doesn’t mean he won’t, just that so far nothing he released has backed up his statement.
There are dozens of us. Dozens.
Done. Added scale selector, and you can now mark any city/town as a favourite. Thanks again for the feedback
Thanks for the feedback. Highly appreciated. As a European I totally forgot about Fahrenheit. Will add.
Good point about being able to click the name before zooming in. Will add that as well.
The favorites should stay visible when zooming out. Will check.
Very cool, and bookmarked. And spot on for the HN crowd, I think. I went in a very different direction with lot’s of visuals. Might not be to everyone’s liking but check it out if you want

My family and I were trying to plan a short summer escape from the cold, grey Danish summer — somewhere it was actually warm enough for a t-shirt. I couldn't find a good way to just see that at a glance, so I built one. It's a world map of multi-day forecasts. Zoom out for capitals, zoom in and smaller cities fill in. There's a "t-shirt weather" toggle that highlights the places that are warm...
I recently bought a Mac mini M4 16 GB - mostly to run Immich. I assumed I needed a Linux box. After a lot of researched I was quite surprised that the mac was the cheapest option. So not always an Apple tax.
In the company I’m at this is beginning to happen. PM’s want to “prototype” new features and expect the engineers to finish up the work. With the expectation that it ‘just needs some polishing’. What would be your recommendation on how to handle this constructively? Flat out rejecting LLM as a prototyping tool is not an option.
I am working on a time tracking app. I use it to keep track of time spent vs my estimates, and also just to check my actual working hours. It's fully local—everything is stored in localStorage — but I do have plans for some optional syncing so it can be used on multiple devices.
It has helped me a lot to keep focus while working and track distractions. It might be too tailored for my needs, but have a look: https://zookeeper.fyi
The author surely knows about competing protocols but prefers at. It would be just as easy to argue the author is biased if a comparison was made. Maybe more informative though.
Thanks for the feedback - means a lot. I had enabled high level usage tracking on Vercel. I was tracking page views to see if I got any users. I have switched to using Plausible [0], a privacy focused analytics tool, and added an opt out option on first load.

Thanks for checking it out and thanks a lot for telling. Me definitely not intended. It should work now, but I will monitor this.
I am working on a time tracking app for tasks. I built it because I want to gain a better understanding of how I spend my working days. It's meant to be very simple. Everything is stored locally and requires no login. I don't currently plan to sync it with any backend. This isn't something that can be used to track employees — it's just for personal use.

Now I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic. Damn it!
Have you never mistaken a checkbox for a radio? I have not. At least not to the point I’ve noticed. Consistency within an app is important, but done well, I think it’s okay to break with conventions.
I think a simple explanation could be that it is slightly harder (mentally) to move than copy a file. Windows move: ctrl + x
Mac: cmd + option + v
In every other program, cut/paste is the same as windows. That’s confusing - at least as a former Windows user. That said, I had many duplicate files on Windows too.
Maybe it was for testing the alarm
Kanye’s 808 & Heartbreaks has been claimed by many rappers from the 2010’s and onwards to have been a major influence. He really went all in on autotune and introspective lyrics. I much prefer Dre but his influence is waning.

I can easily get on the hate train, and view cryptocurrency as a pointless waste of resources. What am I missing? To name a few problems they might solve:International transfer of value
Protection from monetary policies
Money laundering (real for some)
This was made me laugh. So many times I read ‘it should then be obvious that…’ What the?! No it isn’t. Text book authors must hate students.
I’ve been told mining for Bitcoin is almost done, and therefore the energy needed for Bitcoin will drop. Is that true?
