You really think Bruce Schneier, who has called Snowden a hero, is trying to discredit him in this article? That's not the tone I'm reading here.

Try www.offerletter.io
Iceland already did something similar: http://www.auroracoin.org/

I would use it but then I couldn't make $0.10 donations to the impoverished every time I open a new tab: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tab-for-a-cause/gi...
Re:Google: YouTube is so overloaded staff cannot filter content on Wednesday January 28, 2015 @01:06PM (#8961427)
It's much easier for a computer to recognize audio than video content. I'm sure in a couple of years, YouTube will automatically flag violent terrorist propaganda.
Yeah, but that totally violates DRY principles.

Ask HN: Should GitHub and StackOverflow cross-reference bugs?

I find myself looking for debugging help both on Github and StackOverflow. Sometimes, it's more appropriate to check StackOverflow for a quick answer from peer dev and sometimes I should ask the question directly to code maintainers on Github.I worry that bugs don't get enough exposure when they are posted on one site but not the other. If I post on StackOverflow, the devs might not see it. ...

Re:Stanford to host 100-year study on artificial intelligence on Friday January 09, 2015 @08:51PM (#8865549)
Variables affect the world in long time frames. The influential Harvard study on human happiness[1] could only have been conducted over the course of a lifetime. Check out The Long Now[2] for a group of people evaluating variables at the 10,000 year time scale.

Re:Take Away Harvard’s Nonprofit Status on Friday December 12, 2014 @05:20PM (#8743064)
This is a bad idea. Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and other well endowed schools spend more money per student than they receive from tuition. If they were for-profit institutions, they would be further incentivized to raise tuition.
Re:Google News to shut down in Spain on Wednesday December 10, 2014 @10:06PM (#8732982)
Can they allow users in Spain to access Google News from a non-Spanish TLD but still serve those results in the Spanish language?
Style guide violations can introduce bugs when moving from one system to another. At best, they slow down communication when someone can't easily understand your code.
It would have been amazing if they released the album for free but people had to download it. By making it mandatory, they showed they were very tone deaf and ruined the promotion.
Apple could just sell backdoored phones in China and encrypted phones in America.
Re:Is Behavioral Economics the Past or the Future? on Sunday November 02, 2014 @07:37AM (#8546446)
Here here. If anything, behavioral economics is becoming more legitimized with the advent of neuroeconomics.
Re:Meteor hits 1.0 on Tuesday October 28, 2014 @02:08PM (#8522453)
How did Meteor get to 1.0 when node.js is still at 0.10? I congratulate the Meteor team, but can anyone confirm it is actually stable?
Who says no one has done that?
Re:Hailo says Uber blocked potential investors on Friday October 24, 2014 @09:55PM (#8506908)
This doesn't seem strange at all. Uber doesn't need confidential information being transferred to their competitors...
It's about living on your own, and setting your own day's structure. I agree with him about having students do one year of college before going straight into the real world.
Re:'Citizenfour' Reveals Existence of Second NSA Whistleblower on Saturday October 11, 2014 @12:02PM (#8442462)
NSA has had whistleblowers before Snowdwen so this is not surprising.

Re:Times Articles Removed from Google Results in Europe on Saturday October 04, 2014 @08:22PM (#8411034)
The censorship is frivolous but effective. I should have said "I don't think this policy is bad for the EU government."
Re:Times Articles Removed from Google Results in Europe on Saturday October 04, 2014 @06:35PM (#8410861)
I don't think this policy is bad for the EU. Google will remove articles faster than publications can notice and report on their removal. Most EU citizens will not care enough to use non-EU Google sites on a regular basis.
Re:Yahoo Nears Investment in Snapchat on Friday October 03, 2014 @07:23PM (#8408167)
As someone who really respects and likes Snapchat, I had no idea the impact it was having on modern culture. I could not have come up with this experience.
Re:IBM Watson API on Wednesday September 24, 2014 @01:06PM (#8362634)
Is BlueMix a Heroku competitor or compliment? I want to develop on the Watson API but I also want to use a stack I'm familiar with. Also, do you have range estimates for the price of accessing the Watson API?
What he actually said: "Since 1920, the vast increase in welfare beneficiaries and the extension of the franchise to women — two constituencies that are notoriously tough for libertarians — have rendered the notion of 'capitalist democracy' into an oxymoron."
