Why is it bad that one of the key components of plastic is fossil fuel? Isn't locking it up in plastic preferable to burning it?

If they are referring to the energy cost of manufacturing it, that's got nothing to do with the raw material being fossil fuels.

Re:The Best Line Length on Tuesday August 12, 2025 @06:43AM (#44874598)

HP laptops don't last 3 years these days. You're lucky to get past 1.

They haven't made anything good for years now.

adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.android.chrome

Just because AI is new, it doesn't mean it's less valuable than the older things using up resources. AI is far more valuable than, say, television.

If the goal is to reduce overall usage, what to stop should be determined by value, not chronologically/LIFO.

If the government want to help (and the new government has shown a strange attraction to price interference), they could simply let schools choose their own holidays, as long as they have the right number of school days in the year.

It would be a bit harder for families with kids in different schools, but probably most schools would be _more or less_ the same, with just a bit more variation to spread it around a little bit.
