I'll splurge for the boxed set - with hardcopy manual, and community support included !
Electronic toys that are not mass produced are always too expensive for the mass market. Chompi is awfully cute though.
You need to go out and socialize with a few satisfied McDonald's customers.
Any opening of proprietary chat to useful tools will be used for spam too. It is a curse.
I second that remark about Kdenlive having stabilized most impressively.
Indeed, Ikea nowadays caters to a range of quality/price optima. Kitchen door finishes make a world of difference in durability and prices. Bedside tables exist with wood-on-plastic-slides drawers - and other models with ball bearing drawers.
The existence of "XEP-0365: Server to Server communication over STANAG 5066 ARQ" suggests military usage. Isode advertises XMPP as "The NATO Standard for instant messaging" (
https://www.isode.com/secure-xmpp/) and it is one of their core offerings. I remember seeing NATO command posts using IRC long ago - makes sense because it is ultra light, and therefore usable on extremely low bitrate degraded links... XMPP seems to be the successor for that purpose.
https://www.sigidwiki.com/wiki/XMPP_trials says "On shortwave, you can see the military use this protocol. They are known for using MIL 188-110A Serial HF waveform (fixed 600bps/S) and 6-bit code clear text with dual bursts of STANAG 4539 and STANAG-5066 as for XMPP Multi-User Chat (MUC) messages, over a bandwidth of 34 kHz. Multi-User Chat (MUC) is a central service for military communication. [..] XMPP is widely used for military deployments, where operation over constrained and degraded networks is often essential, particularly for tactical operation"
At this point, self-hosting email is as much a practical convenience as it is a political statement. Or maybe I'm just stubborn.
Remember December 2025, when Marco Rubio ordered diplomats to return to using Times New Roman font in official communications, calling his predecessor's decision to adopt Calibri a “wasteful” diversity move ?
GPON sniffing made easy, but that is only the first step: nowhere does this project mention AES, churning keys, or any decryption routine. Nowadays most GPON traffic is encrypted (ITU-T G.984.3/G.987.3).

They are relevant to me, because I often look for documents rather than answers.
I think the market segmentation is:
- Seeking documents: search engine
- Seeking answers: LLM
> I ditched osmand because the interface is so convoluted. Ridiculously so
OSMand is a cartographer's friend - it does everything and more... With all the drawbacks of doing that.
CoMaps is better targeted to the needs of most people.
> Are there any side effects of leaving Immich public ?
Yes: it is necessary to share selected albums through public URL.
> Euro English
I call it Eurospeak, for extra outrage - though that word currently has European Union civil service connotations (cf. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Eurospeak)
Eurospeak is definitely the language of international corporate meetings !
This French person has taken to writing in en-GB, as a token of protest against current USAian politics. I thank the USA for this step in French-British rapprochement !
Also, in the late 90's, The Register made me love British English... Local accents are great branding.
... And that is the straw that broke the camel's back - and convinced my elderly father to accept my offer to migrate to KDE.
Also, I can now shield him from most of the incomprehensible unsolicited dialogs that triggered support calls. I haven't had to field a single complaint since I tuned his desktop !
kha-euh-ro - including the "euh" impronounceable by non-French.
In French project management parlance, we use k€ all the time.
> HN is an online community. Same as forums, and BBSs were.
That is the very definition of social media.
"Social media I like" vs. "Social media I don't like" isn't valid categorization.

Sorry, and thank you for noticing.
I tried posting the correct URL at https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48386203 - but HN mangled the it again... So, I had actually posted it right the first time and there is a technical issue !
Mods, please ?

Programming sequencers visually and with tons of help from the tooling pushes the ear sharpening later in the learning process - and I'm only now starting to realize that maybe making music is about deciding what sounds right... I suppose the trombone and violin's "sink or swim" approach ensures the early acquisition of that skill.
I suppose one's ear gets sharpened fast, out of necessity - but I recoil at imagining what the other band members have to get through meanwhile. The process for violin is the same though.
> But, how can a trombone ever be better than the piano when there’s so many variables? Well, unlike a piano, where each key produces a fixed pitch, a trombone lets me subtly adjust every note as I play.
Thanks, but I'll stick to my keyboard's pitch bend control.
The trombone's great expressiveness comes at a steep learning cost.
In Harare in 1998, I remember the pleasant surprise of finding a good "internet café" in some downtown office building... Was Fidonet still active in Zimbabwe at that time, or had Internet access supplanted it already ?
