Ask HN: How to recover after failure?

I was a co-founder of a startup that never delivered and gained the reputation of not being able to do so. We decided not to launch after reevaluating the marketplace. We're in a city that doesn't embrace failure among startups so it's been especially difficult. I've learned to stay more stealth but in reality would love to talk to people about my ideas. Personally, I've grown from this...

This sounds about right, thank you.

Ask HN: Did your startup begin as a service?

Does anyone have a service based startup or one that started as a service? It seems these types of startups are frowned upon but it might provide a great way of seeding users and building customer funnels. Last year I worked on an actual software product but have since turned it into a service with much better results. Would love to hear you experience about your service based company and how...

Re:Ask HN: Are we idiots for launching a travel newsletter? on Tuesday December 11, 2012 @11:34AM (#4905218)
Not at all, travel industry is huge. A newsletter is a great way to build customer funnels for other paying services. Good luck!
Re:Ask HN: Launched a new site, what do I do now? on Monday December 10, 2012 @01:45PM (#4900782)
You have to start creating customer funnels. This could include writing a blog for your target market, doing a speaking tour for shoppers and getting them to sign up, just a few examples. Make sure to get creative with it. Last but not least, I'd refrain from using the word "cool" when describing your product. You should think about how Ultimate Gift Lists adds value and is more unique than your competitors or how people shop now. If you're to do this through your product and vision, that's when people buy.
Re:Trouble with co-founder on Monday December 10, 2012 @01:38PM (#4900732)
Business people are obviously important in startups but tend to be dispensable. Find another co-founder, there is a surplus of business types. If you can sell your idea and vision to someone while being technical you'll have no trouble finding another partner. Good Luck.

Ask HN: Can Entrepreneurs exist in the common workplace?

Really need some advice on this. I recently had a software startup and plan another go at it on a part time basis. I decided to take a part time gig at a really cool startup. The only problem is I'm starting to butt heads with a non technical girl who was brought in for a testing job. She is smart but not very technical or creative, although creativity is supposed to be her specialty. I've...

Re:How do I get users to on my mobile app before I launch? on Tuesday November 27, 2012 @12:23AM (#4835779)
Just to understand, what is the value to the user for creating an itinerary?
