Start working on a project Friday afternoon and well through the night. It sets the tone for the weekend.

I didn't know go can do deadlock detection. Thanks for this, I learned something new today.

I mostly agree with what you're saying, but note having a channel doesn't mean one stops worrying about synchronization. If two goroutines both started waiting for data from a channel they'd be deadlocked.

This sounds like a cool idea! What primitives would you suggest?

Re:An email from Airbnb on Thursday October 20, 2016 @12:05PM (#12753519)
A newspaper and Airbnb aren't exactly the same thing. One difference is a newspaper recognizes it can't show reviews of its listings, so it doesn't.
Re:Thank HN: From Google form to $1k in revenue in one month on Thursday October 20, 2016 @10:56AM (#12752820)
Yeah, probably.

Now I wonder which of the job posts are 'Old Geek Jobs', for old geeks, and which are not.

Re:Thank HN: From Google form to $1k in revenue in one month on Wednesday October 19, 2016 @07:50PM (#12748752)
I found a bug.

Job postings aren't sorted by date correctly. For example https://oldgeekjobs.com/jobs/California?page=2 shows jobs posted '2 days ago' while the front page shows jobs posted '30 days ago'.

There are great historical precedents. The first democracy, Athenian democracy, allowed only 50,000 out of 300,000 citizens to vote. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athenian_democracy

Can you say a bit more why?

What's the tldr? After 1000+ words I still can't see it. I wish articles said the main point in the beginning.

Ask HN: Is it necessary to say open-source software comes with no warranty?

I just looked at the list of open-source licenses. It's a long list that takes time to read and understand.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_free_and_open-source_software_licensesIs there or can there be a license that means all the good things and none of the bad, and is under 5 words?

Re:NewLisp on Thursday October 06, 2016 @11:58PM (#12658055)
In NewLisp's memory management model, I didn't understand if one-reference-only limits what the programmer can do. http://www.newlisp.org/MemoryManagement.html

Does it mean it's impossible for more than one variable to refer to a variable already referenced? If yes, is this a problem in practice? If no, is this the way of the future?
