I search for projects via Periodix[1]. It aggregates projects from Upwork and other job boards.

I suggest checking Upwork firstly, and Reddit Community. My friend always hires someone from Reddit. It is easier and better candidates.

Re:Ask HN: How to find profitable side project idea? on Friday February 15, 2019 @09:56AM (#19171354)
I suppose that finding problems is not difficult. The most difficult is to find an audience that has the same problem and sell your product. As Lead Startup Methodology tells us that we need to check our hypotheses after that create a solution. A lot of startups die because founders don't catch an audience.

And if you create a solution, it doesn't mean that you will get revenues so fast. The best choice is to find a remote/local job at startups. If you're in London, I think it's not a big deal.

Or just having some projects on side. You will earn more incomes than you can do with a startup.

I use for searching projects Periodix [1] and Facebook groups. There are a lot of projects of startups. ALso, I saw the website that oriented on Positive Impact Projects Jobs [2]

1 - https://periodix.net/ 2 - https://positiveimpacttechjobs.com/ 3 - List of Remote Jobs in Different Companies https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Sr0vy3eDn2fcEhxOdkPv...

Wow! That's an amazing idea! I share the 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development by the United Nations. And I understood the value of this idea. It's pleasure to work for making the world better.

Moreover, I use https://periodix.net/ to search for remote projects. Because it's some popular job boards in one place. Perhaps, you can cooperate with them to get more potential candidates.

Thanks for sharing. Where do you take projects?

Why did you create the website?

I mostly use this job aggregator service (https://periodix.net/). Because it shows me projects with my chances to be hired. I like this feature the most.

Re:Ask HN: How bad is freelancing? on Monday February 11, 2019 @08:10AM (#19134153)
I have been working as a freelancer and a contractor. I enjoy this lifestyle. But I still have different issues.

- A LOT of job boards and freelance marketplaces exist. I wasted plenty of hours to check them and find a relevant project. Approximately, I found a service that helps me to manage them. [1]

- Clients want to spend less money from a job. That's why you face a big competition on the freelancers market. Indian and European freelancers charge less money. Their rates are from $5 per hour till $40. When an American freelancer has to charge from $50 till $150+. [2] Fixed price really solve this issue.

- You can't anticipate how much money you can get for a month.

That's why I suggest finding long-time clients or full-time remote jobs as a contractor. Make your life easier.

Re:The Psychological Trap of Freelancing on Monday February 11, 2019 @07:58AM (#19134060)
I have the feeling as the author while I charged hourly rates. I see a tendency that more freelancers start getting money from a fixed price for a project. It helps to charge more and less work. Also, it is easier to get relaxed. You know when you should finish a project.

I shared here one research about the hourly rate of freelance developers [1]. They calculated that right now, it's about $68 of the US JavaScript freelancer. But I assume that American freelancers charge more. Perhaps, some freelancers charge fixed prices. That's why the rate is lower.

Thinking about time equals money really disturbs your life. You have to live for enjoying but not for getting money every minute.

As a lifehack, early I included my vacation/sick/holiday days to calculate my hourly rate. It helps me to have planned vacations and some days to sick without any thoughts about doing a job.

Which Developers Earn More: Corporate vs. Freelance

I was wondering Which Developers Earn More: Corporate or Freelance.I was surprised by stats that I finally got.‼️Only 32% of all full-time freelancers earn more than they got at a company. And the highest hourly rate is for Javascript developers. ‼️It's about $68 per hour. It's pretty cool, I think. However, this rate is just for American freelancers. What do you think about the...

I work remotely and common work from home. I try spending weekends with my family and some evenings too. I practice yoga every morning and three times per week with yoga groups. Want to change my schedule and wake up early. Because I understand that I spend a lot of hours just for sleeping and don't have time to obtain new knowledge
Re:Ask HN: Are sites like Elance and Upwork worthwhile? on Tuesday February 05, 2019 @09:47AM (#19085671)
Upwork has different projects with low and high prices. It's a lottery to win a project.

Here is a list with 100 Marketplaces and Job Boards to find a remote or freelance job https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RrCjKx03515Hm523uUvD...

You can check them and find what you need. I'm sure that freelancers with the high rate find projects. BTW, This service https://periodix.net/ aggregates projects related to your budget expectations. That's why you don't waste your time competing with $2hour freelancers.

I assume that a big company doesn't give the experience you to become a CEO. It a huge difference between big companies and start-ups. You don't feel there an atmosphere of a startup. I suggest you start working at a start-up. Because you will see all the issues there: how to get investments; acquisition; activation of users, retention. And all shit that happens there. So, you will prepare yourself as the CEO.

One person shared one week ago a spreadsheet with remote open jobs at startups. You can check it here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Sr0vy3eDn2fcEhxOdkPv...

Thanks!

Does it help you to manage your incomes?

Yesterday, I had the same question. Asked it on Reddit.

I consider building my own website with Affiliate Links. I need to spend some time on development. And I chose a little bit tough niche.

As always it is buying property and index funds.

For extra money right now, I check freelance platforms and FB groups to get a gig. It's not passive but I'm glad to earn some cash. A few weeks ago I found a new website https://periodix.net/ . It shows me projects from all platforms where I searched on a gig. (Upwork, WeWorkRemotely, Remotive etc.)

Re:Ask HN: Is there any social network you trust? on Wednesday January 30, 2019 @09:31AM (#19035276)
Currently, I use Telegram. I believe that it doesn't read my messages.
I'm vegan and still alive.
Looks interesting!

I see Buffer in the list with 100+ Companies with Remote Open Positions and I guess that important to see real information about a company that you'd like to be hired. When you see Key Metrics of a company, you know how you can grow there and help it to be better.

PS Just for info. I found it here. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Sr0vy3eDn2fcEhxOdkPv...

My wife checks relevant Facebook Groups with sales managers. Also, you can check Reddit. I suppose you can find someone there.

There are Remote Open Engineering Positions right now. You can check them there.

Re:Ask HN: Do you enjoy working in a coworking space? on Monday January 28, 2019 @10:24AM (#19018092)
I will find a cafe with my atmosphere. BTW, I met my wife at a cafe. She was freelancing there as I was!
Re:Ask HN: Do you enjoy working in a coworking space? on Monday January 28, 2019 @06:44AM (#19016711)
I prefer working at a cafe. Coworkings remind me about awful jobs at office spaces. At a cafe, I feel more freedom that I can change my working place every day. If you pay for coworking, you have to go there every day. What is the difference between an office job and a freelance job? With freelancing, you can work from anywhere. Startups and corporates move in coworking because it might be cheaper to rent.
Re:How can I find freelance/remote job in one day? on Friday January 25, 2019 @12:31PM (#19000194)
I believe that you want to be hired fast. But nowadays, it's not real. You have to spend a lot of hours to find a normal client.

I had experience with freelance platforms as Upwork, Freelancer, PeoplePerHours. Honestly, I spent there all nights before being hired on a normal project.

My wife hated these evenings.

What solutions do I use right now?

1) My Networking. It's the best place to find a full-time job or evenings jobs.

2) Linkedin. I have a lot of connections. I just write a post that I'm open for new jobs and I need some gigs, a lot of recruiters write me.

3) It's a new invention for me https://periodix.net/. I used it twice. And being hired almost for three days. I applied for a position, got an interview and got a job.

Good luck :)

Re:Coding Problems from Programming Job Interviews on Friday January 25, 2019 @12:22PM (#19000115)
Sometimes I think that interviews steal business time. They don't show what a person can do exactly. Your qualification shows your test work, trial days. So, you have to show how you are in the job. Because interviews create a stressful environment. These questions in the article show that you can memorize answers and tell them immediately. Very soon AI will check our skills and fit us with the most relevant projects for us. I see it's the future. For example, two startups as https://talent.works and https://periodix.net . Their AI algorithms check a CV of a candidate and match them with open positions. It really works! First one is for searching for full-time jobs. The second project is for remote and freelance workers. I believe that AI destroys interviews in a wink.
