Seems like some pretty obvious errors in this. But a cool interactive demo.

Awesome. I've been playing exploring PITR stuff recently in my homelab. Will give it a go and try to contribute if I spot any issues

I love them, useful for super clean desk setups .

I use a 140w USBC charger -> USBC to Barrel Jack -> LG Ergo screen -> USBC -> Laptop. One AC plug powers the display & laptop.

I'm using it for this purpose. You can just run a tunnel/tailscale net/dyndns.

You can compare benches of the old models against the new models. So yeah, you can see the difference.

Even then, you can just compare the progress in open models. Leaps and bounds from where they were 6 months ago.

Typed out an entire prompt on the homepage, hit enter, was redirected to sign-up & completed it.

My few hundred word prompt wasn't saved/persisted. :'(

The journalist knew what she was doing. Naomi was in China, agreed to do an interview about her self & her work, then the journo tried to drum up clicks by putting her on the spot about politics.

Real consequences for the interviewee, all for some clicks. That's not journalism.

> over 0.6 million

What a peculiar way to say: 600,000

Re:Ask HN: What side projects landed you a job? on Sunday December 03, 2023 @07:58PM (#38512497)
After working for a while at a marketing/digital shop, the topic of crypto came up over a work lunch one day. I fell down the rabbit hole and found a nascent project with some interesting stuff on the tech side.

I saw they had a bounty program for a mobile app, I built an app alpha & claimed the bounty. The foundation running the project saw this and reached out. 6 years, 3 countries & a few wild rides later, I can't thank the guy who was crapping on crypto enough.

Edit: check out some crypto bounties here: https://bountycaster.xyz/

They never said anything about Banks.

Conceptually, a service provider utilizing Ethereum could create or aggregate on-chain services and package them in a similar format to what a bank is today with very little overhead.

While the Facebook driven project is dead, an open fork of Libra is currently running and being built on.

> An ant farting in a hurricane.

Thats a touch disingenuous. It was never meant to power the whole of South Australia. It was specifically built to mitigate the peak power price gouging [0] that had been happening the for prior 10 years.

The 6 minutes it can run for during each cycle saves millions of dollars a year. Specifically 40mil in the first year. The cost of the unit was 66 Mil [1], so thats an insane break even time for grid infrastructure.

Spark does pretty well for me. Nice inbox features and search functions.
Re:Ask HN: How did you find your current job? on Sunday August 19, 2018 @04:57AM (#17793361)
Became interested in a startup's technology and joined their developer community. I build some small examples and offered my help here and there.

After helping out (paid) they kept asking for more assistance. I asked to formalise my relationship with them and got the job.

I get a metamask (ETH Wallet) phishing warning on this site. Anyone else experience this?
When I first bought ETH (Coinbase) it took 5 min verification and a debit card. Practically instant in comparison to traditional financial setup times.
> but he's terrible at the thing an enterpreneur is supposed to excel at - generating profits.

I think that is a very narrow definition. Elon as of today is worth 20.7b (Forbes), between you, me and the internet I think he's doing pretty well as an entrepreneur. A better fit IMO would be 'value'.

Profits are what you chase if you are a CEO after quarterly returns and job security. See Amazon [1].

Re:IOTA Surges Past Ripple on Wednesday December 06, 2017 @07:03AM (#15860466)
So its functionally the same as an ICO with a 40% premine? Of which 20% of the tokens go directly to the founders because they figured out how to write a paper.
Re:IOTA Surges Past Ripple on Wednesday December 06, 2017 @07:01AM (#15860450)
The BTC about 500k USD worth, of which 200k got taken as VAT, was used to develop the technology for the first 2 years. Only in the last month have the IOTA foundation been able to legally access the money donated to them by the community.

As opposed to say, tezos which has 232mil to develop their self-governing token. Additionally, "the founders get 8.5% of the fiat proceeds in cash in addition to 10% of the tokens"\

  Iota has bigger problems,
Can't attest to this. But if you are interested in discussing the tangle I suggest joining the slack. Specifically check out #tanglemath

Yes

This article has incorrect figures: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/iota/#markets
Re:IOTA Surges Past Ripple on Wednesday December 06, 2017 @06:30AM (#15860300)
None, as it doesn't have one. It uses a different DTL architecture called a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG), known as The Tangle.
Re:IOTA Surges Past Ripple on Wednesday December 06, 2017 @06:28AM (#15860286)

It's 100% premined, which smells as scammy as Ripple.
It needed to be as there are no miners in the IOTA network.

Additionally, In contrast to conventional ICOs, IOTA had 0% of their ICO reserved for founders. Not a single iota. The founders had to purchase their technology back during the ICO.

Furthermore, there was no allocation for foundation or ecosystem funds. They asked the community to donate for this foundation to exist. They reached 5% of total supply and that is what the foundation runs on. (~140Ti)

I've heard they rolled their own crypto.
Its easily searchable, please inform your self.

it's an "append and forget" blockchain, lol.
Can you please explain the issue with this?
Re:IOTA Surges Past Ripple on Wednesday December 06, 2017 @06:16AM (#15860234)

If two devices create valid transactions on two independent subtangles and the system tries to reconcile these tangles into the main tangle afterwards, how do they determine which transaction is valid?
The subtangle with the highest weight.

when you start thinking about possible applications it's actually quite hard to come up with something that seems both interesting and doable.
I can think of a number of niche examples that would benefit from both data security and a value settlement layer

no one seems to think about the privacy implications of having IoT data
This is constantly being thought about. GDPR compliance is quite a tricky one, then you have Japan which even classifies the hash of personal data controlled. This doesn't mean its being left behind.
