The argument isnt to open the store but to open the phone. You would still be able to only install apps from the store if you so choose. Others would be able to install any app theyd like. Also, app makers that could not afford to go through Apples vetting or developers who have written apps that Apple later decides is good enough to clone - so removes the non Apple version from the store for reasons, would no longer be shutdown completely.
Thats ok, anyone who has been a bench tech, field tech, especially in the later 90s to early 2000s, has a similar story to this. Ive had people manage to force CDs between two drive bays and wonder why their CD wasnt being detected. Have had people insert credit cards in floppy drives, etc..
[Edit] there used to be a website, similar to bash.org, that people would submit stories like this all the time of stupid shit they were running into as a tech. Dont recall what it was. There was also and admin site, they may have been the same.
Does there need to be? No. An E-3 isn't in the position to know whether it will or won't and its pretty fucking arrogant to assume that risk. Do you know that it saved lives? No you don't. You couldnt, and whether it did or did not, it wasn't Manning's call to make.
>then encouraged Manning to search for any more stuff
So, he did in fact encourage the theft of classified info?! Doesnt matter if it didnt produce any results. There was still intent. Secondly, do you think Manning is the first he tried that with? Don't be naive.
Fair enough.
However, this is the type of sensationalist garbage that shouldn't be allowed here in the first place. How does this article promote intellectual curiosity?
There is no evidence of this that you are aware of.
>There's no evidence of this. Since the leaks were about embarrassing unprosecuted US military murders of civilians arguably it saved lives by driving them to be more careful.
this is absolute nonsense
I personally think Glenn Greenwald is piece of shit but that is beside the point. It doesnt matter what I think about whether or not the information in question should be exposed. As a person that has held a security clearance I can tell you this, it isnt for me to decide - That decision was way above my pay grade. I personally believe both Snowden and Manning should be imprisoned for a better part of the rest of their lives, but thats just me. They arent heroes, no matter how much you try to make that so. Its pretty egotistical of someone to believe they can see the bigger picture and know what the outcome of exposing that data will be. Data is classified for a reason and that decision wasn't made by you or I. It'd be even more maniacal of someone to decide the fate of others by exposing it which is what Assange, Snowden, Manning, and others have decided of their own volition to do.
I, like the government, would disagree with you on that. Obviously youre entitled to that opinion.
So... let me get this straight. Youre alright with a foreign national stealing or encouraging the theft of classified US intel and publishing as long as it didnt happen on US soil? Further, youre alright with Americans being exposed and/or killed b/c of it? Because, you know, though it was a crime against the US, it was perpetrated by a foreign national of foreign soil?
The gov't can arrest you any time they want for any reason they'd like. Courts ultimately decide whether or not it was lawful. To answer your question.
also...
"Under the First Amendment, laws "abridging the freedom...of the press" are invalid. Most states also have their own laws in place which protect reporters from having to disclose their sources and, in certain cases, unpublished materials. Some states have even included "free press" provisions in their state constitutions." ~ https://www.legalzoom.com/articles/can-a-journalist-be-force....
You can try and call yourself a journalist but you will need a court to uphold it.
You are free to believe whatever youd like but I choose to live in reality... Assange is no journalist.
Actually we have extradition treaties/agreements with many countries so yes if an American were to break the law of another country that country could in fact ask to have that person arrested and extradited.
Assange broke US law, encouraging the theft of classified intel belonging to the US and then publishing it. It doesnt matter where Assange was geographically when he did so.
Example if I were to hack a foreign gov't or company's computers while residing in the US and being on US soil at the time, I would still be breaking that country's laws and could be arrested and extradited to that country.
This is an agreement many countries have with one another. Assange broke US law and therefore could be tried in a US court.
When you encourage others to steal classified information and then publish it without regard to the harm it may cause others, you are not a journalist, you are a criminal. When you go on to publish stolen information about one Presidential candidate, in a foreign election no less, and not the other you are no longer a journalist - not that he ever was, you are a tool.
Im not making an argument about whether or not the current state of journalism is biased - of course it is. Im simply saying Assange is no journalist.
Not only is he not a journalist, he actively encouraged others to steal and disseminate classified information. That is a crime in this country and most, if not all, other countries I would imagine.
Having a website doesn't make you a journalist. Calling yourself a journalist didn't make it so. Courts will have to decide that I suppose.
Let's hope that one day you don't become old.

I'll tell you right now, as a person that got sucked in by the look and feel of the packaging at a time I was looking to replace my razor, it is by far the worst most cumbersome razor I've ever owned. The blades rust almost immediately. From top of blade head to neck is just so long (5 blades plus lots of space) and the weird rubberized flex of the head makes following contours of face virtually impossible. Leaves patches of hair. The razor was probably designed by a woman for legs or an early 20s geek that hasn't sprouted facial hair yet. Either way, you'd be better off buying a razor from a dollar store.

Thank you. Email alerts is actually on my near future road map, near future being in the next week or two. I went back and forth on whether or not to charge right away. I ended up building a coupon manager and I just give out coupon codes for deep discounts. For instance right now I have coupon codes on various social media platforms for 25% off I think. I also will give out 75 to 100% off to registered charities and orgs supporting veterans. Im hoping that will be sufficient, but who knows.
[Edit] My rationale for the coupons idea was... a) it would be another metric for tracking sales, b) I could run promotions, c) I could trade discounts for mentions, back links, blog posts, etc.. . I thought this better than just letting everyone post for free.

from the show-hn dept.
This is my first time submitting to Show HN so I apologize in advance if Im doing it wrong. About 5 months ago, coming off of several different projects that went nowhere, I was looking for something to do. About that time a user, /u/max0563, submitted findremote.work to Show HN. While most people took to trying to break it I thought that the design was simple and clean and wondered if I could...
Is there a reason you wouldn't just use IntelliJ and install the plugins you need? I used to use separate IDEs pycharm and phpstorm, but then I needed IntelliJ for some Java dev and realized I could just install PHP and Python plugins instead and from then on only needed one IDE (IntelliJ Ultimate). I havent been able to do this with C#, .Net but for everything else it seems to work.
From what I understand, a foreign company purchasing a U.S. company is subject to some pretty intense review (CFIUS). By moving HQ to the U.S. they avoid that review process. It was planned before Trump but Im sure youre right and somehow Trump will help push this right through.
[Edit] Here is a story talking about it from last week. http://www.latimes.com/business/technology/la-fi-tn-broadcom...
Vue for me means not being tied to the whims of Facebook or Google (Angular) and the directions they need to take their development. Google's reputation for ditching projects and their extremely, IMO, convoluted documentation makes them not even a consideration for me.
Ive been in the game a while now , almost 18 years - 7 as a dev, and still get asked by recruiters generally within the first or second question if i have a github profile. Nope, I moved to BitBucket. Recruiter: never heard of it, what's that?
It'd be nice if tech recruiters actually had a background in tech.
Correct me if im wrong but wasnt the anarchist cookbook mostly cherry picked from military field manuals found in a public library? If so, kind of hard to make the claim that its terrorist literature.
If you're passing up a quality candidate b/c they're the wrong gender than that's discriminatory. Also, there are plenty of industries that are over represented by women. Do you hear men crying about it or big movements to invade those industries by men. I think the workforce should represent the proper ratio, meaning... if software dev is made up of 90% males and 10% females than so too should the staff. Well the goal should be to make sure your staff make up is in the same ratio. Thats a good goal.
I dont disagree with you. What I am saying is some people can look at a device, in the simplest of ways, and think to themselves... hmmm, perhaps I shouldnt fly this directly over people, or in the path of aircraft, etc. Perhaps I should be careful, take precautions, maybe have some training. And then there are others, that don't. Theyre fucking idiots. They could be told not do shit. They could be trained to properly operate the equipment. There could be laws against certain behavior, and quess what... theyll still act like idiots, b/c that is exactly what they are. And that is point... put anything into the hands of an idiot and it becomes dangerous, a spoon, a rubber band, a piece of toilet paper, a gun, a car, anything.
What am I adding to the conversation? I thought your question was fucking stupid and typical of people that want to put safety rails on everything, child proof everything, and legislate everything to the point you cant do anything fun. Im not saying you're that person, but I am saying that your question sure makes it sound like you are. I felt my response was a common sense response to your silly, perhaps hyperbolic, question and needed to be said. What exactly did your question add to the conversation? Nothing.
[Edit]
Also, in response to your car analogy, how many of those accidents were caused by people operating a motor vehicle while on a phone, texting, being intoxicated, being on drugs prescribed or illegal, being too exhausted to drive, driving too fast in hazardous conditions such as rain, snow, and ice, driving recklessly or at a high rate of speed through construction zones, etc.? Are you telling me these people were able to get a license without being aware of the dangers? Hell, there are even laws to prevent most of the stuff I listed yet people do them anyhow. People are reckless, only are concerned with themselves, and many can't seem make the connection that actions have consequences, or they just don't care. That makes them what? Say it with me... Imbeciles!
[Edit 2]
> How much karma do I have to waste explaining such a simple idea to people? I'm done.
I especially enjoyed your last line. Thank you for that :-)
