Re:GPT‑6 and Intelligent UI for everyone on Monday October 12, 2026 @10:29AM (#50056966)
Agreed, it's mad.

But overtime I'm sure it would arrive at a solid, user tested bill splitter that you can just tweak and customise as much or as little as you like, saves it to your profile and there you are, a reusable, fully customisable tool.

Re:GPT‑6 and Intelligent UI for everyone on Thursday October 08, 2026 @07:58AM (#50004776)
I think most responses here are missing the bigger picture, this is the beginning of the end for individual apps and websites, a big rollup of everything into a single tool. A sad day.
Re:Sonnet 5.5 on Monday September 28, 2026 @02:12PM (#49882067)
This is crazy, what is the point of all these equivalent models?

Ask HN: I don't want better models, just faster ones

Anyone else satisfied with the current models on offer but just want them to be faster?I feel like the exhausting context switching work-flow that AI has created could be solved if they were 10x, 100x, 1000x faster. Back to working on one thing at a time please.

Re:AI is removing the middle class of software engineering on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @04:13PM (#49277956)
It’s difficult to have spent a long time learning something, only for that thing to suddenly become accessible to anyone; something that was once scarce and valuable is now abundant and cheap.

There are still machinists doing things by hand, but for real production or prototyping, most will now use a 5-axis CNC machine. It still requires an operator of sorts, but much of the work that once required skilled manual machining is now done by CNC.

I think the same thing is happening here; it’s just that the transition is messy.

Give it five years, and how we get to the end result will not matter nearly as much as it does now. A messy codebase will be irrelevant, as it will be something managed and controlled by the LLM, written in a way optimised for itself, not for you or I.

Re:Herdr is joining Y Combinator. The runtime stays open on Friday August 07, 2026 @06:40AM (#49208385)
I've tried Herdr a couple of times, and just can't get into it. I think what's off putting is another layer of keyboard shortcuts over my terminal...I don't see what it's doing that Wezterm and a bunch of splits does anyway? I'm almost certainly missing the point.
Ah yes, I remember that nauseating promo video with Altman and Ive.
Re:Show HN: Paper – A Journaling CLI for Developers on Monday July 27, 2026 @03:10AM (#49066064)
I've been looking for something like this for a while. Thank you!
Love the idea, as a dev who started a new role recently, the pressure to just get stuff done is killing my ability to understand the new codebase.
Re:Grok 4.5 on Thursday July 09, 2026 @09:32AM (#48845550)
the world must be incredibly confusing, with no meaning attributed to anything.
Re:Grok 4.5 on Wednesday July 08, 2026 @05:49PM (#48837873)
I’m amazed at everyone’s willingness to use tools owned by this man, very disappointing.
Re:Ask HN: Best Podcasts of 2026 [So Far] on Wednesday July 08, 2026 @05:06AM (#48829463)
Had a listen, these are some pretty right wing populist views, the fact they are immigrants feels like something to take that edge off. The people they interview are mostly awful, David Starkey, Tommy Robinson (Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon), eww...
Re:Cursor 3 on Friday April 03, 2026 @12:59AM (#47623334)
The main reason we pay for cursor is for bugbot, that alone pays for itself 10x over.

Personally I never use the actual IDE, and much prefer Claude code with helix in the terminal.

I’d be really interested in other’s workflows regarding this.

I’m finding the pressure at work to be faster and more productive gets in the way of actual learning.

I’m starting to believe that code will not matter soon, as long as it works, then everything will just be a single natural language interaction to make a change.

You make a valid point, but my comment wasn't about resources, it was about empathy. Factory farming isn't sustained by poverty, it's sustained by indifference. The majority of people who could easily choose alternatives simply don't think about it.

I grew up in a poor household and we were vegetarian, because we saw animals as living things with feelings, not commodities whose pain and suffering is meaningless.

I agree you can't live without some level of cruelty, but you can certainly live without contributing to one of its most obvious forms.

This is the insight that most people need but will never have, empathy for other living things seems to be greatly lacking amongst the general population.
Great idea, will give it a try.
Re:Ask HN: Which book are you reading these days? on Tuesday March 10, 2026 @06:00AM (#47321172)
All these new accounts are so confusing, two comments all about how great Claude is...
Re:Ask HN: Please restrict new accounts from posting on Tuesday March 10, 2026 @03:35AM (#47320135)
100% agree, I rely on HN for genuine insight, recently I've found it really difficult to trust what I'm reading. For instance this thread → https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47247639 has so many new accounts all saying that how brilliant the product is.

I can't tell if you are joking...
Re:Helix: A post-modern text editor on Saturday March 07, 2026 @10:56AM (#47288730)
I've used Helix as my main editor over the past few years, I love it, but the speed of development is quite slow.

Would love to see some AI related plug-ins when the plug-in system is finally released.

Personally I find the advert a bit confusing, even with an understanding of what they are trying to achieve and their business. Was expecting something along the lines of Led By Donkeys...
Love the idea!
Love it! Great work
