You say "no way" as though you are an authority on the subject to a hypothesis put forward by a man who is an authority on the subject.
You rack up karma so you can downvote.

You can get 100s of karma and then get banned for one post that gets blasted for going against the hive mind. (happened to me 3 times).

This is a good idea in general. It is really what the market should be correcting for already.

I don't understand why the college doesn't lend you the money to attend their courses already.

How about "Free" as in "in exchange for a valid email address"
Offer asylum, get fucked with.

At least the Zetas tell you straight.

Or, his murderers sent it as a smoke screen.

It doesn't say "an electronically signed email" using Hastings' PGP key, it doesn't say it was DKIM signed.

Re:Firefox Takes the Performance Crown From Chrome on Tuesday July 02, 2013 @06:37PM (#5981186)
Advertising is annoying and rude. Flashing away trying to steal my attention from the activity I am trying to pursue.

"don't do that, come and do this instead"

"skip this ad in 5 seconds" - no thanks

The interesting thing about the New Albion was that it was so completely modern in spirit. There was hardly a soul in the firm who was not perfectly well aware that publicity--advertising--is the dirtiest ramp that capitalism has yet produced. In the red lead firm there had still lingered certain notions of commercial honour and usefulness. But such things would have been laughed at in the New Albion. Most of the employees were the hard-boiled, Americanized, go-getting type to whom nothing in the world is sacred, except money. They had their cynical code worked out. The public are swine; advertising is the rattling of a stick inside a swill-bucket. And yet beneath their cynicism there was the final naivete, the blind worship of the money-god. Gordon studied them unobtrusively. As before, he did his work passably well and his fellow-employees looked down on him. Nothing had changed in his inner mind. He still despised and repudiated the money-code. Somehow, sooner or later, he was going to escape from it; even now, after his first fiasco, he still plotted to escape. He was IN the money world, but not OF it. As for the types about him, the little bowler-hatted worms who never turned, and the go-getters, the American business-college gutter-crawlers, they rather amused him than not. He liked studying their slavish keep-your-job mentality. He was the chiel amang them takin' notes.

I switched to Chrome to see what the speed was like and I came to the conclusion it was a slicker browser for daily use.

But then I reminded myself that some things are more important than raw speed and responsiveness.

Google's interest is tracking and targeting. Chrome actively worked against me in this regard. Firefox, despite its financial ties to Google, put control and freedom onto my desktop.

A bit of occasional sluggishness is a worthy price to pay.

The beer is free at all the browser bars and while I was drinking it, I remembered I liked free as in speech.

It is a terrible decision

    curl http://domain.com/showdocument?[00000-99999]
should not be a crime!!
It is illegal here in the UK to not decrypt. I've always wondered how anyone could prove I knew what the key was. Would saying "too late, I have a dead man's switch that tripped while I was in custody" and showing that mechanism be enough?

If so, I could just build a bogus mechanism.

It's not really a situation one should play at :)

The tone of this article sounds more like anti-European propaganda than news.
Re:The Reddit sleuths who brought down a meme empire on Monday July 01, 2013 @03:56PM (#5973178)
select text an address bar, ctrl-c

click somewhere else ctrl-v

and yes, view-source is beyond most people

Or, as seen on HN

the seven year old MySQL bug

http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=20786

Status: RESOLVED FIXED

but what that means is "allow plugin" is in the top left of the screen and enables that plugin site-wide.

So enable for that one flash video and see ads for ever more.

Seems the bike sheds were looking a bit boring.

Re:"Disable Javascript" option removed in Firefox 23 on Monday July 01, 2013 @03:07AM (#5969181)
I run with Javascript off, via no-script. Most of the stuff that requires Javascript is tracking based and/or from third party domains.

tbh a global Javascript toggle is a bit useless. You really need the fine grain per-domain settings of No-script to navigate the modern web.

Re:Why you need to move from the Android to iOS on Sunday June 30, 2013 @11:21AM (#5966045)
Ah the OP. What are my needs with regard to my using Android and why do I need to change to iOS ?
Not the IRA and ETA ?

That's a great suggestion but which one of the twenty-three official languages of the European Union should I start studying ?

Re:A surprising JavaScript memory leak found at Meteor on Friday June 28, 2013 @04:08PM (#5960082)
Works as per spec, won't fix. Closing.

The definition of "memory leak" is smeared all across the road.

I don't know but I use it every day. It is how Eurosport delivers its streaming channel to Windows. There is an Android and iOS version. The Android one doesn't allow the 3 hours rewing feature that Silverlight does and drops frames rather than buffering.
