Re:Ask HN: What are we doing with all these strings? on Monday May 15, 2023 @03:51PM (#35953578)
DSL's are great, but we should write them inside of a language like Lisp, Scala, Haskell, etc. where we have all the tools already for editing and debugging them.

Ask HN: What are we doing with all these strings?

Why do we keep writing little custom parsers for everything? Why do we keep taking perfectly good data structures and turn them into strings? Why are we writing for statements in a config file? Why is templating even a thing? Like seriously, what are we even doing??

My thought as well. He seems to be delving into the metaphysics of quality.
I’ve been having what I began recently suspecting to be aural migraines for a few years now. They happen once a month or less. I was surprised to see that these images are surprisingly similar to what I’ve been experiencing. At times, I can’t even read my screen. I’ve tested my own peripheral vision while it’s happening and have noticed blind spots. After 20 minutes to 2 hours, things go back to normal.
