Re:Did you ever wonder why December has 31 days? (1997) on Tuesday April 15, 2014 @09:57AM (#7591806)
According to wikipedia, the julian calendar already had 31 days for august so the explanation of the article doesn't seem to be correct.

I really recommend all non-programmers to take it if they want to get a grasp on how cs people think.

Re:Ask HN: Stripe equivalent in the EU? on Monday March 19, 2012 @11:25AM (#3724317)
This question regularly pops up here on HN.

Seems nobody is bold enough to tackle this problem :)

I just tried this with a different movie in mind. The results are pretty interesting, but see for yourself:

http://www.google.de/search?q=the%20film%20where%20a%20house...

http://www.bing.com/search?q=the+film+where+a+house+is+flyin...

http://duckduckgo.com/?q=the+film+where+a+house+is+flying+wi...

If you get the same results as I do, you should find the correct answer as duckducks first answer and bings 4th one. Google's first page of search results has no reference to the correct answer (though in the picture search the first one picture is from the movie).

I use google day in day out. Maybe I should overcome that habit :-)

Re:Ask HN: Great links for arduino hackers? on Monday September 19, 2011 @10:03AM (#3013563)
I haven't found one yet. hackaday.com isn't Arduino only, but they cover a lot of interesting projects with Arduinos.
Re:28th Chaos Communication Congress (Berlin) CFP on Friday September 09, 2011 @08:03AM (#2977766)
I have been there a couple of times and attended a lot of great talks.

I really recommend this conference to anyone interested in digital culture and create use of technology.

FrOSCon is a quite nice conference. Been there since the first year.
Re:Ask HN: Please explain this open-source 'laws' on Wednesday May 18, 2011 @07:33AM (#2559772)
In general I would say yes. But for a definitive answer you should clarifiy:

* which open source license the original gem author chose

* "edit it and launch it as a gem": do you want to distribute the modified gem (e.g. upload to github)?

Re:Mozilla Glow: Awesome Firefox 4 live download day map on Wednesday March 23, 2011 @12:46PM (#2360162)
Looking at Japan you can estimate where it was hit by the tsunami because of the lack of pings.
Re:GitHub announces subversion support on Thursday April 01, 2010 @05:19AM (#1234207)
I realized that - but will this "feature" be avaible after midnight?
Re:GitHub announces subversion support on Thursday April 01, 2010 @05:15AM (#1234203)
If this is a joke, it's a damn good one. Otherwise, it's a cool feature :-)
Re:Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala released on Friday October 30, 2009 @08:57AM (#911930)
An upgrade with LVM and cryptfs in use worked for me.
