WB seems to have purged it. Anyone know somewhere to find it?
Re:LSD Chemist William Pickard to Be Released from Prison on Saturday July 25, 2020 @01:15PM (#23950808)
LSD literally makes you acutely aware of your perception. Things get put into perspective.
There is research, and it's pretty intuitive. Create stability. Reduce income inequality. Focus spending on social programs. Help people out of addiction, crime, give them a network, healthcare, education and jobs. People who cannot work need funding. Enough to live a dignified life. People are happy when they don't have to worry. People who are happy with the system doesn't really commit crime.

Many private trackers may ban you if one of your invitees misbehave.

Ventilators are extremely intensive treatment.i It's forced breathing. If you're old and frail, it will kill you.

All fine and dandy until the geography shifts.
I don't get why this is downvoted. If you want to take part of the benefits of capitalism and maximize your profit, you should be ready to waive some benefits if asking for collective support.

It's a great podcast! I can also recommend the episode on the THX sound.

I'd argue that depends on 1. laws being put I to place for strictly rational reasons, 2. arrest decisions do not depend on race and 3. punishment magnitude is equal for equal crimes.
You're saying that black people have a higher propensity for crime. Is it not more plausible that humans are more or less alike, and the difference is outside their control?
Well yes, that's structural racism for you. And before you judge people for committing crimes, ask yourself: would you have abstained if you had the same life story? Do you think they would fall into crime less if they had a more privileged upbringing?
Re:French court rules Steam games must be able to be resold on Sunday December 29, 2019 @05:38PM (#21909097)
This is great. Anything that may only be "owned" by one person at a time should categorically be able to be resold. Licenses too. If you're a proponent for capitalism (which I guess all publisher decision-makers are), then let the market work. The profit motive will solve all problems.
They tout "sustainability is non-negotiable" on their page, while encouraging recycling over more sustainable reuse. I mean, they're allowed to do that, but be honest about it.
But still, why not say so directly? Why lie about sustainability? It seems extremely dishonest.
> while doing repression even more violently than chinese or russian governements

Source on that?

The decision has nothing to do with China being communist. It has everything with both being capitalists.

You said it yourself: "Putting profits ahead of everything else.. because it sacrifices quality and every other good for the sake of short-term profit."

A blanket fear of communism is not productive.

Re:Knuth: Fantasia Apocalyptica (2017) on Sunday May 19, 2019 @06:12PM (#19955860)
I had the privilege to hear the piece at the premiere in Piteå, Sweden. Honestly I didn't know what to expect, but I've never heard music rendered from text so faithfully before.
Re:A Gene That Makes You Need Less Sleep? (2014) on Sunday May 05, 2019 @05:28AM (#19831930)
Wow, how are you physically? Any downsides directly related to the minimal sleep?
Re:Six years later, Star Citizen is still raking it in on Monday October 15, 2018 @05:20PM (#18223877)
I can really recommend https://artemisspaceshipbridge.com

It's a game where you and your friends play as the different officers on a Star-Trek like bridge, like Helmsman, Weapons and of course Captain. Use a large TV as the main screen and use your laptops for your station. It's really fun.

Detained during their connection in Frankfurt?
Re:The GDPR Is a Cookie Monster on Thursday August 30, 2018 @09:28AM (#17876490)
The same thing happens on Forbes. Trying to opt out fails after "applying preferences" a few minutes.

It's of course bullshit.

Re:The cyclist behind an anti-cyclist Facebook group on Friday August 10, 2018 @07:14AM (#17732281)
I was going to rain on the parade by saying that that quote is old. But then I saw that it was posted almost 10 years ago and could very well be the source.
Re:Cable networks are speeding up TV shows to cram in ads on Friday August 10, 2018 @05:45AM (#17731911)
Two things shook me while watching TV on my USA trip.

One is the sheer number of ad breaks in programming. Here in Sweden there's only a few with a good chunk in between.

The second is ads during programs. I mean not even having the courtesy to pause but instead overimpose.

I sort of get it now why USA import shows have the weird breaks though.

Given, I seldom watch TV here anymore, so I might be mistaken.

Unrelated to the story, but I got this when (trying to) opting out of tracking: https://imgur.com/a/sw9wFY0

Besides opt out not really being ok, the processing took a good minute or two. As in the progress meter arbitrarily increased. That must be bullshit right? And after completion, the request to set preferences failed anyway!

Does anyone have an explanation?

I left the field blank on my ESTA application. Should I be worried?
Re:Escaping Hell with Monads (2017) on Friday February 23, 2018 @07:32AM (#16445919)
1) Maybe monad

  getData :: Maybe Data1
  getMoreData :: Data1 -> Maybe Data2
Note: the monad is probably not just Maybe if it talks to the outside world but more in 2)

List monad

  getData :: [Data1]
  getMoreData :: Data1 -> [Data2]
Dont' know about continuations.

2) There are a few approaches but the most popular are monad transformers, building stacks to combine the effects. For example, to speak with the outside world we need 'IO'. To add failure we might use the Maybe transformer

  MaybeT m a
to build

  type IOMaybe a = MaybeT IO a
I imagine a single state-owned database where merchants enter detailed product information. The consumers may then query the database at their leisure.
Why do you consider secularism bad?
