I hope so, these protestors are accepting blood money every time a direct deposit from Google hits their bank account or their stocks vest! Surely they'd want to keep their moral integrity intact and quit if their demands are not met.

They must be the 7% of the population not covered by BLS stats when working out the CPI, assuming they're from US, or living in a remote area. Agree that overall, the population has been growing richer for several decades. But what about us folks who subsisted off of GPUs and used cars in 2021-2022? The reality for us is way different.

Well a lot of the sub-$500 petty theft are done by junkies trying to get their fix for the day, and with opiate addiction getting worse, not better, in the US, there are many of these types and the day-by-day thefts add up over the years. Throwing a repeat offender in jail for a couple weeks is often the only time a junkie will kick, so it kind of does solves the root problem for these individuals. Even some hard-ass jurisdictions have half way houses.
Source: me, an ex junkie, and had junkie friends. Go ahead and write this off as an anecdote, but it's an anecdote repeated thousands upon thousands of times.

?????
Illiterate or not, with this system, you can "read" the order at a glance rather than having to read a list of items or decoding a set of symbols. That might shave a second per order.
Another point, ink in markers run out and thermal printers frequently run out of paper at inopportune times. I presume condiments are well stocked. No hunting for a new marker or fetching a new roll of receipt paper with this system.
