I've read this advice couple of times "convert your unit tests to assertions". What does it actually mean? Say in the context of web dev, you add assertions to the code and when they fail you log an exception and move on?
Any links related to it will be helpful.
I tend to feel that not everyone needs to know how to code, but in some professions it can be a "force multiplier" if they do.
Interesting! I wonder if someone can help me with a problem I'm facing with cgo. I'm trying to include go runtime as apython module (.so) and the code appears to work fine as a standalone program. But when I try to run it from a pre-forked process manager (say Celery for python) the code gets stuck at runtime.futex (from strace). I guess some interplay of python and go runtime w.r.t goroutines. I feel Go is not meant to be embedded in Python runtime.

I have been learning Golang in my free time, this a toy project that I tried my hands on.

SEEKING WORK - Bangalore - Remote
Experienced software developer (full stack with backend leanings)
* python (Django/DRF/Flask)
* Javascript (react)
* Go
My expertise is solving hairy/messy problems involving integration with legacy codebase,
though that is not the only thing I am good at.
Some of my last few projects include integration of a django component that I wrote
with a legacy codebase in PHP and a WYSIWYG(almost) editor for PDF generation.

I average between 7-8 hours. I drink maybe 2-3 cups of tea in a day. I swim around 3 times a week, squash maybe once or twice a week and kayaking(white water) on some of the weekends.
I don't think so, though I haven’t really looked around. Want to meet over tea?
any plan for bangalore? tea fanatic here :)

I have started using react.js + flux and I really like them. But I wanted to check what is your stand about the patents clause. Are you using it for your startup or are you steering clear? Also if you are a consultant/freelancer, are you using it for your client's project?I fall in the second category and I am not sure what should be the things that I need to consider before I start using it...
Nice post! Thanks for writing it. Do you know of any similar resource for google compute platform?
Sounds interesting. This could be really useful.
In my previous project for a client I implemented a similar feature (though I named it masquerade).
Thanks for sharing it.
Try to find a co-working space in your area. If not maybe work from a cafe for some time during the day.
I was gonna suggest meetup.com but looks like you do not have interesting meetups in your area.
Maybe pickup some sport in your free time. Leisure, fitness and socializing all rolled into one.
This. It holds for other skills as well.
Thanks, will check this out.
Thanks. Looks like this is what I am looking for.

I have a reasonable understanding of relational databases. I am not so sure about NoSQL databases. Though I have used mongodb in the past.
Can someone point me to resources to get a deeper understanding? How do I go about learning the trade-offs of choosing say a document store over a key value store. Also CAP theorem and related trade-offs. When is NoSQL better suited than relational etc.
Three years back I quit after 10 years of smoking (cold turkey). My notion of smoking was associated with break from work. So I replaced it with green tea and red tea(rooibos). You can probably give that a try.
Another thing that helped was sports, I started playing squash. I tried to be in better cardiovascular health to play squash, another motivation. Maybe you can pickup something (gym, any sport or anything physical)if you are not already doing that.
Mine with some itertools abuse :)
from itertools import cycle , izip
[(f + b or x) for f, b, x in izip(cycle([''] * 2 + ['Fizz']), cycle([''] * 4 + ['Buzz']), range(1, 100))]
Edit: not sure how to post code in comments. e.g. * is lost
I think that is a great idea. I'd be happy to see something like that.
Curious, is it your first instrument?
Photography and trying my hands at post processing. Bought Nikon D 3200 sometime back
I plan to take up whitewater kayaking sometime soon. Looks like shoulder injury is common amongst paddlers. Any tips to avoid it?
Also any idea if ACA courses are any good?
Wow, I really wanted something like this. Thanks. Gave it a try, looks like it crashes whenever I try to upload a file.
