I suspect we will see this again with AI at some point. I've been building my own business around this whole concept of financial failure, not taking on massive debt like everyone else is and running super lean and profitably. It is hurting me in the short term to not have access to capital, but I think it'll all turn around at some point when people wake up, again.
The problem was how quickly rates went up (not necessarily how much they went up). It was like 5-6 times in 6 months, which spooked everyone. It peaked in 2000, then the unprofitable companies ran out of money when investors pulled out of the stock market, then rates went back down.
"At the same time, a decline in interest rates increased the availability of capital.[20] The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997, which lowered the top marginal capital gains tax in the United States, also made people more willing to make more speculative investments." ... "Meanwhile, Alan Greenspan, then Chair of the Federal Reserve, raised interest rates several times; these actions were believed by many[weasel words] to have caused the bursting of the dot-com bubble."

Interestingly, lots of parallels to current times.
that's fine... don't use it.
of course, i'm appealing, but i fully expect to lose as well.
shocked, but not shocked.
it is wild to me that people expect that crypto is supposed to solve a problem that is as old as currency.
it is all open source: https://github.com/hotaisle/hotaisle-website
you login to their website, and you are presented with a list of providers where you can click and add your provider api key.
how the key is stored on the backend isn't clear, but it is akin to handing your password or if you know crypto, your private key, to someone and letting them store it for you.
from what i can tell, there are no links within the console to a ToS, Privacy policy or anything else. there are no warnings or documentation about how they store your keys.
someone else in this thread linked to this issue, but this comment is especially insane given that i can't find any privacy policy or tos for the console.

Our use case is that we rent out VM's with GPUs in them (on-demand, no-reservation, billed by the minute), and the GPU rental is a lot more expensive than the disk rental. Right now, we don't have a cluster of storage in our DC, so we just delete the data.
We support API/cloud-init, so if they have regular workloads, they can just boot a VM with whatever they need.
It is then... get some storage (in progress) and let people pause their VM and pay less for disk when they don't need the GPU. Fully on-demand GPU compute. Perfect for agentic workloads where you want your agent to be able to spin up larger models on enterprise gear for when it needs it.
I'm working on something like this for my business, but the server is the bucket. When you shut it off, the VM data is stuffed into a bucket and restored when you want it back on.
If I was a Cerebras shareholder, I would be LIVID right now. Seriously, what the hell. Insiders dumping stock: CFO, COO, accounting officer. AND NO INFO about losing GPT-6.1 Ultrafast.
