Today I wrote a budget description for a scientific proposal that an AI would not be able to match. The reason? My knowledge of the social context.
Re:California’s Math Misadventure Is About to Go National on Tuesday October 03, 2023 @01:09AM (#37748194)
A curiosity-driven question: What was the role of the scribes?
A form of interaction?
They could be "alive". There is little margin to explain the binary aspect in Amy other way.
I am a scientist and over the last years I stopped using notebooks for notes... I lost something, you connect deeper with your thoughts by writing with hand. Now I occasionally use A3 papers when I see need, but still. I will take a notebook tomorrow!
What about that strage propulsion system announced by caltech a few years back? Sorry really I have no more knowledge.
Re:Where Did Our Belief in Abundance Come From? on Thursday July 27, 2023 @11:33AM (#36895114)
Both comments indirectly highlight a point: we know little about the behavioural economics of scarcity.
Re:A Proto-Pizza Emerges from a Fresco on a Pompeii Wall on Wednesday June 28, 2023 @07:59AM (#36505170)
What do you mean proto-pizza? The whole Mediterranean and MENA regions are full of similar stuff. Why to look at it from our westerner modern mindset?
I perceive their main point could be made with a single focus on the 3rd option you suggest. Other options might fall out of their aim?
Gingko biloba supplements are great, but you can feel how they activate your psychological weaknesses.

I can dig from here, thanks a lot!
Re:Brain Waves Synchronize When People Interact on Sunday June 18, 2023 @02:11PM (#36382716)
Since I am an ignorant on quantum, please would you mind providing a reference?
Re:Brain Waves Synchronize When People Interact on Sunday June 18, 2023 @02:21AM (#36377807)
This is in the thin line between telepathy and network science, and provides an interesting basis to research further. Would there be a possible link to quantum entanglement?
Re:Vintage National Geographic Photos on Monday June 12, 2023 @11:04PM (#36304641)
Nice stuff, very valuable collection. I think one of the pics labelled as Grenada perhaps relates to inland waters instead, because the houses seem unprotected from the water.

Re:A birder's quest to see 10k species on Sunday June 04, 2023 @05:58PM (#36189990)
Given the increasing difficulty of finding/seeing new species, at some point it will become 10 or 100 times more costly in time/money to see each new bird.
And the smallest that fly for 1h under command?
Next they will fly and cut your hear, in their most civil application.

Post Scriptum: I apologise if for some reason the above joke is found out of order.

Re:Germany falls into recession as inflation hits economy on Saturday May 27, 2023 @02:35PM (#36097072)
I felt it coming... as a migrant, a couple of weeks ago I felt people started to look at me differently.
Re:Fermented coffee’s fruity aromas demystified on Sunday May 21, 2023 @09:14PM (#36026298)
As an anecdote I would have never expected, English Breakfast tea standards are the poorest: broken leaves that fall apart while producing finer sorts.
When I read metaverse I see meta-depression, as it would have a massive mental health toll. Or how could this issue even be prevented?
Re:Fermented coffee’s fruity aromas demystified on Sunday May 21, 2023 @11:44AM (#36022084)
I am impressed by how much the general population is driven by supply, instead of finding their way to quality, when it comes to coffee.

What's your favourite brand for green grains?
And when you stop writing on paper, you become less consistent.
See the world from a systemic relational approach, and publish and talk about it.
Those fees seem well below where I publish.
Could you use this to build simulated human relations and decisions, say, like in an agent-based model?
Re:Do looks matter for an academic career in economics? on Sunday April 16, 2023 @10:26PM (#35596228)
Does contentiousness relate to intelligence (as in having your own opinion?) or to stubbornness (as in not changing your opinion)?
Re:Do looks matter for an academic career in economics? on Sunday April 16, 2023 @04:20PM (#35593908)
Do you mean a more motivated economist or a better economist?
