Fair. Long day, thanks for the sanity check, edited.
Valid critiques but could be a bit softer towards somebody putting themselves out there.

A friend has been making clothes from 100% certified ocean plastic: https://seathreads.co/

As a business owner, I don't envy his margins, but I certainly hope to see more companies doing similar in the future. We need to make re-use cool and something to brag about.

Re:Improving Surgical Decision Making Through Interactive Video on Wednesday October 14, 2020 @10:31AM (#24776931)
Hi HN, I wanted to share a novel use of interactive video related to surgical research that we finished recently.

A group of surgeons at University College Dublin created a series of 17 interactive interactive videos where they provide the viewer with the patient details, allow them to observe the blood flow via a fluorescent dye, and then ask them to draw the location where they would make an incision or insert a stapler.

550+ responses were gathered from medical professionals in 8 countries around the world. Their paper is currently being reviewed for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

I’m happy to answer any questions or provide further details if of interest.

I love Chart.js. Thank you kindly for your time and effort.

Genius. Nice work.

Ask HN: What steps to take to rebuild an existing application?

I've been tasked with rebuilding a successful desktop application into a web application. A few relevant points:- The app is in the scheduling realm and involves some semi-complicated algorithms- I did not contribute in any way to the desktop app and it's written in an old language that I don't know at all- I plan to build the new app in Ruby on Rails, which I am experienced with- We've...

Re:Ask HN: Do you have a side project you want to sell? on Wednesday January 15, 2020 @03:05PM (#22057910)
I'm selling TipTonight.com, a dead simple digital tipping platform.

Creators create a simple profile and can accept tips via Credit & Debit cards, Apple & Google Pay, Paypal, and Venmo.

No account is required for tippers. Creators can see who tipped them as well as a message if they included one.

Its a Rails 5 API application with Vue.js / Nuxt frontend.

Insignificant revenue to share. We haven't put hardly any marketing behind it. The code is clean and could be easily repurposed to fit any scenario where tipping is relevant.

Interesting. What's your tech stack look like? What do you have in mind as far as further work?
Re:Ask HN: CS, still a good career in 3-5 years? on Tuesday December 17, 2019 @12:40PM (#21816145)
I went into CS without ever having programmed before and consider it the best decision I've ever made.

As others have said, CS gives you a framework for analysis and problem solving. That framework can be applied to almost any other problem in life.

I run Mindstamp (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=17959341), but have plenty of time to help you with your web-based project as a remote freelance, part-time, or contact hire.

I'm a fast learner, a clear communicator, and take pride in owning the problems I work on from start to finish.

If you have an idea or just need somebody to start helping asap, shoot me an email and I'd be happy to chat.
