Yes! I noticed that, too.
It happens. I also had a few people come back. An entire team quit (4 people) to go work for a competitor. Two came back when the competitor screw them over, offering higher wages just for 3 months, and then linking the wages to an impossible schedule. One manager quit because of stress and came back a few years later for a similar job with a few less responsibilities.
Yes, it's also an episode of Seinfeld when George quits and acts like he was joking:)
You can have multiple identities, just as you can have them in chrome without being logged in. search for Firefox Multi-Account Containers. OR https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-... But you can always create a shortcut for each identity...I use this method for Brave.
https://draw.io But dbdiagram.io looks amazingly easy to use. And so are the rest of the suggestions. I also realize that I don't use UML with draw.io:)

Go Fund Me for DCU and MCU Characters

...Or how selfish Batman and Iron man are...Did anyone notice how bad the treatment of superheroes is in the DCU? Everyone knows who Falcon is, yet he looses his parent's boat? Nobody knows who Spiderman or Superman's mom are, but at least Batman and Iron Man know... Being billionaires and all about justice, you would expect a helping hand for the families of your league of justice.. I would...

modern web? Lynx Web browser is still being maintained!:) You can use it to search google or wikipedia. You can run Lynx on a 8086 CPU. If I remember correctly, Lynx can display images, if you download it one by one:) If you want video, but not go with an Amiga with a modern add-on card, you're probably looking at a Pentium PC.
Re:Ask HN: Best resources on database design on Saturday April 14, 2018 @11:58AM (#16837860)
If you work with mySQL, follow Percona's blog. It's full of awesome stuff.
Re:Ask HN: Raw SQL vs. ORM? on Wednesday April 11, 2018 @07:33AM (#16810058)
The biggest advantage of using RAW SQL is that you learn it 'quicker'. You will make mistakes, but hopefully those will be found before they make it to production. If you get used to ORMs, you probably won't know how to optimize your queries..
Re:Ask HN: Raw SQL vs. ORM? on Wednesday April 11, 2018 @07:27AM (#16810029)
RAW SQL of course. * Create the database for the queries you will use, then, for the admin panel, you can use an ORM (but why would you mix the 2?), but for front-end I always use RAW SQL (PDO, to be exact).
On some of Italy's highways, they calculate the speeding ticket from gate to gate:) Meaning that if you entered the highway at 12:00 and you exited at 13:00 at a gate 120 miles ahead, you get a fine.

Sometimes, I see people who like to speed, just sit it out at a parking cafe next to their exit.

Re:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 0day priv escalation on Friday March 16, 2018 @02:41AM (#16599030)
There should really be a law against this sort of thing. Security researchers are needed and they provide a valuable service to the world, but please don't get ahead of yourselfs. In recent months there were many instances where people just disclosed vulnerabilities without making sure there are fixed available. This is wrong and legally should be equivalent to hacking.

In the past, when vulnerabilities with no fixes were disclosed were after months and months of trying to contact the developers of said software and patch it... Nowadays it seems everyone is eager to ride their 15 minutes of fame...SAD :)

Re:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 0day priv escalation on Friday March 16, 2018 @02:37AM (#16599022)
To ALL security 'researchers' out there: PLEASE don't disclose 0day's before they where fixed by the project owners!
I would go with PHP+mySQL/PostgreSQL maybe some Redis for good measure. What PHP framework to use in 2018? Fat-Free Framework, of course.
Re:Show HN: Deploy a Go Lambda to Ping a Site in 20 Seconds on Tuesday February 27, 2018 @04:42AM (#16472206)
actually, it's not. We create a special page, with PHP and one with nodejs, that just replies '1', so besides status, we also get a notice if nodejs or PHP malfunctions (which does happen on some servers, 1-2 time a year).
Re:Show HN: Deploy a Go Lambda to Ping a Site in 20 Seconds on Tuesday February 27, 2018 @03:02AM (#16471808)
This is amazing! Does anyone know a good resource to learn more about Lambda and how to setup small projects like this?
Re:You Probably Don't Need a Blockchain on Thursday February 22, 2018 @02:47AM (#16435952)
Distributed systems are ideal for many applications. Distributed systems verified by many 'miners' is even better, but at some point, we have to admit that the technology is flawed in key points: - power consumption, considering global warming, is a huge waste; - the speed all nodes communicate between each other (not even counting the great firewall of China) can't be improved after some point (BTC lightning network is NOT a real solution - read an article about how exactly it works)

Proof of stake is a VERY BAD idea that creates more problems than it solves. All I have to do to take over the chain is buy 1 coin more than anyone else on the chain..

All other problems could be solved in the future (reversible transactions, regulation/privacy etc), but with these 2 major drawbacks, blockchains are not feasible, in my opinion.

Re:Preventative care doesn't save money on Saturday February 17, 2018 @06:22AM (#16400221)
You're right. Like all things in life, one should use common sense when interacting with the world. No one (i hope) wants to spend their budget irrationally. So in your example, I would let the doctor decide if that $100 is spend better on curing rather than preventing. And that 1% reduction you came up as an example is not 1% for the entire population, it may be 1% to me and you, but maybe 50% for someone older, or with a specific condition...
Re:Preventative care doesn't save money on Saturday February 17, 2018 @06:19AM (#16400206)
I did read it and I get the angle of it. it's not always cost effective, like all things in life, one should use common sense. But in general terms, preventative care does work well and costs the state less, at least in the UK.
Re:Preventative care doesn't save money on Saturday February 17, 2018 @04:58AM (#16399971)
But of course it saves money.. on the long run. Yes, it does cost more upfront, and yes, people will be using the 'free doctor' more, in the short term, but over the lifetime of the patient, it costs considerable less to prevent, than to 'fix'. Of course, you could say that people who 'suddenly' need fixing will live less, so overall the state will save money cause they will be dead sooner, but i'm pretty sure that's NOT the point of healthcare.
China is solving this problem. Every citizen will have it's own score (by 2019 or something) and you get points taken away if any of your online friends or family say bad things about the communist party. It's a solution... but i'm not sure if it's the right one:)

here's the article: http://www.wired.co.uk/article/chinese-government-social-cre...

Hi. Yes. I didn't go to any anonymous forums. I didn't have any reason to go there. For me, It's like visiting the ghetto for the trill of being mugged..
Re:Ask HN: Which stack do you use at your startup? on Friday February 16, 2018 @05:15AM (#16391282)
Make your MVP in whatever language you know best. Don't chase after buzzwords or trends.

I personally use PHP, mySQL and Redis with nginx proxy, cause I know these the best.

Probably nodejs would be a bit faster, but then again, I would probably make 100s of mistakes, not to mention god knows how many bugs, because I'm not 100% familiar with the language.

I agree that pensioners don't do this:), I meant people 15-40. I did run a chat on our site, and as one commenter noted, I also took a stock girl photo as profile pic. The thing that socked me in this article is actually my own ignorance. I got ,probably, just as many nasty comments, but I blanked them out completely. When someone was being a jerk, i would just close the chat, ban the user, and that's it. It didn't even register as a particular problem, or sexism, for that matter...
upvoted your comment:) You're right. I'm sorry.
All parts of the globe, but I can't imagine comments like this coming from The Netherlands, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland... you know 'from countries such as Norway' (presidential quote here)
I wonder if this is a mainly US problem or an international one? While I could imagine some of the people I know would do this 'for harmless fun', it's only 1-2 idiots (out of all the people I talked to in my life), but those are jerks in real life too...
I'm using the net (As a guy) for 20 years now, and I was surprised. This is taking place at an alarming scale. Some parents really missed the mark in teaching their kids basic human manners, and I'm not even talking about the golden rule...
