News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Really appreciate you taking the time—means a lot. I also noticed some airport codes don't work. The limitation is actually the destination names API here which is frustrating. Next iteration will try and solve this issue.

If I could do it all over again, I would say screw the startup, the money, the IPO and all that crap. I'd run away to an island and spend maximum time with my first partner - who I lost far too soon in life. No money will ever bring them back. The time lost was not worth it. It's the biggest regret in my life that can still bring me to tears as a write this. I would give up everything to go back and tell my younger self to change that one fateful decision.

Show HN: Bonvago.com – Shows hidden hotel discounts and bonus rewards

I built https://www.Bonvago.com in my spare time as a friendlier alternative to other hotel booking engines.Slow dev server, no VC cash, no hype—just me + caffeine, so thanks for your patience. Every “painfully’ slow search helps improve speed. What it does:- Unlocks hidden rates (AAA, Costco, double points, etc.)- Summarizes hotel reviews using AI so you don’t have to doomscroll.- Gives you...

Let's hope they didn't actually waste money building this. Lets break this down.

- Travefy already does itineraries and has an API.

- Who needs SIM Activation? We all have virtual sims and global roaming.

- Visa submissions cannot be automated - tricky government websites.

- Local time, weather and air quality? iPhone does that.

- Idea for a destination? Ask Chatgpt

- Airline Check-in? Airlines have moved to auto-check-in

- Hotel Check-in? Front desk in most international hotels needs you to be present to show passport and credit card with PIN.

Nothing truly useful here. Do some more brainstorming.

Thanks for the feedback. It’s actually kickoffpages UI, so not my doing. :/ Just a placeholder for now. But tested it on mobile and it looked fine.

You're Invited to Test My Hotel Booking Engine

A couple of years ago this coder started an old-school travel agency. Don't laugh. LOL :) It was my way of decompressing from the stress of Silicon Valley startup culture.Turns out our revenue run rate is now $5MM annually. And contrary to all predictions on travel advisors' imminent demise, they are flourishing post-pandemic as people are less trusting of the online travel monopolies.I have...

Amazing read, to get a glimpse of 'gripes' of Americans back in the day. Reminds me of the whole "Freedom Fries' fiasco. Times may change. Some gripes stay.

I Am So Jealous of the IRS's Web Traffic

Is it just me? Or are other people envious of the web traffic the IRS is enjoying?Maybe we should take our VC money and just offer $1200 to everyone to create some instant loyalty. Then delay it a bit and have people come back again and again 4-5 times per day to check the status of their payment as we pitch them our wares.Just a thought! ;) LOL

I haven't had cable in over 15 years. I recently tried Pluto.TV on Firestick from my usual Netflix, CBS App watching routine. I quickly realized how many darn commercials regular cable viewers have to suffer through. The repetition is insanity. cringes in disgust
Re:Americans can opt out of airport facial recognition on Tuesday May 14, 2019 @03:57PM (#19913278)
If you are Nexus/Global Entry and use Clear they already have your finger print, biometrics and retina scan. Might as well add facials to that... no wait that sounds wrong. LOL
I love Mailchimp I really do. And at first glance it sounds exciting. But ya gotta love how an across-the-board price increase is always sold as "added features". Must be some Jetsmarter people jumped ship and went to Mailchimp. :))) ...joke.

You're Invited to Test My Flight Booking Engine
