News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Forgive me for this simple and unrelated question, but I'm new to JS development. This line right here, what is this?

let courseId = fields.to.substring(0, fields.to.indexOf('@'));

I've never seen this 'to' string method and I can't find a doc page for it. Can you explain it or point me towards a reference? Thanks

How can a company lead the field if their R&D is free for the competition to take?

Can you give examples of some of these businesses?

This was an odd story. What was the intended outcome of creating the yeezy.dating site? By the author's (and OP's) own admission, he didn't have the technical expertise to create a robust platform that may have actually been valuable to the business that is Kanye West. Did he really think using the name 'Yeezy' would result in anything more than a cease and desist? I don't know, but I guess it was a fun, albeit expensive project.

Do you mean the website of Mikita Brottman, the author of the attached article? I viewed her website and I didn't see the suicide note. Can you link please?

A good analogy she may grok easily could be comparing her plan data to her water usage and comparing her phone storage to the kitchen sink.

The sink can only hold so much water at once, but she can use more/less water each month than the sink can hold. If the sink is full, she has to drain some water to be able to add more. Also, if she uses too much water, she may be charged more than she was expecting.

I've explained storage vs data this way to a few people and it seems to have been useful.

I think he meant that a potential chilling effect on discussion of such regulation is the likelihood that objectors would be labelled as sexist, thus being ignored as opposed to having their points debated upon their merit.
