Re:FTC Sues Walmart for Facilitating Money Transfer Fraud on Tuesday June 28, 2022 @11:57PM (#31916317)
This is preferable. I wouldn't trust a cashier to detect fraud in any trustworthy rate. That wording in the guideline is important. Suspicion of fraud is not fraud. Acting upon employee suspicion would just skyrocket costumer outbursts and complaints.
I laughed hard at this revelation
Dam , here in Turkey "kaka" [caca] literally means "poop" or "to poop". How odd.
Re:Can the SEC stand up to the richest man on the planet? on Saturday June 04, 2022 @11:22AM (#31621360)
Looks like SEC had it's priorities straight. They did great job on punishing senators for getting rich on insider informations. Heroes i say
Re:Ubuntu 22.10 replaces Gedit with new text editor on Saturday June 04, 2022 @11:16AM (#31621288)
It's about appealing to broader market. Missy people have no idea what ffmpeg is and even if they did, there is no way they can productively use it.
Re:Bugs are evolving to eat plastic, study finds on Wednesday May 25, 2022 @12:50AM (#31500726)
Easy. Invent a resilient plastic that the microbes don't like to chew. And start counting the money untill that plastic becomes the problem.
Things last a lot longer in a vacuum
Re:The Freedom Phone is not great at privacy on Sunday April 17, 2022 @07:30AM (#31060119)
Isnt the entire amazon marketplace doing the same? Marking up cheap white label alibaba products by a couple 100%s and selling it to americans?. And then bragging about making millions with "dropshipping"
"Independent" is a relative term
Re:My next main browser: a review of Orion on Thursday March 10, 2022 @12:32PM (#30629682)
I think what the comment you are replying to means is that priorities can change, even more so if there is a change of ownership in the horizon.

Re:The bullet effects in Terminator 2 weren’t CGI on Sunday November 14, 2021 @04:23PM (#29220853)
How many people have died in movies?! I'd guess it is negligible. People have died during theater performances. And it doesn't get safer than a theater.
Re:Drones Raining from the Sky in Zhengzhou on Tuesday October 05, 2021 @12:39AM (#28755549)
I believe nobody said "evil boogyman". But saying "government controlled" isn't much of a stretch for any Chinese company. I expect they do have some level of "de facto" control on over any company operating in the Mainland
Technically true but wrong. If your oldest Facebook post is from 2015, how likely is it that you've been using the internet before 2005?! Archeologists are very smart people in their own right, some are much smarter than we are. They do consider everything that we think they haven't. Let's give some benefit of the doubt to our fellow researchers.
This article takes"pushing out content" to heart. I don't anybody familiar with the topic learned anything here
Re:The NSA and CIA use ad blockers on Thursday September 23, 2021 @01:04PM (#28631964)
This has to be the most misunderstood comment. Honestly eve tho I don't work for an and centric company I do feel what you went through. Because of how much YouTube helped me, I couldn't bear myself using an ad blocker. Then things like Patreon and sponsorship deals came along and I decided to treat myself a nice ad blocker. Still couldn't do the full thing, so I went with one called "fair ad blocker" that actually let's in some no -intrusive ones so it's a little light on my conscience. Still using it. It let's in some annoying pop ups too sometimes, but such is the price.
Re:Prometheus Fuels (YC W19) Closes Series B with $1.5B Valuation on Thursday September 23, 2021 @12:55PM (#28631836)

Wish this article gained more traction on HN, very interested in what quantum tech savvy folks have to say about this.
Re:Uber must employ its drivers, Dutch court rules on Monday September 13, 2021 @11:29AM (#28512729)
I am torn on this issue, maybe I don't see the whole picture. Uber was never meant to be a taxi company. It was a means for people with cars to share their gas expenses. I don't know how could they ever prevent this gig from becoming a full-time job for most drivers, but I think forcing employment is not a solution.
Re:Why can an ad break the Windows 11 desktop and taskbar? on Friday September 03, 2021 @12:13PM (#28406114)
Wait, why are we ok with the fact that windows has ads in them?
Re:Fuctose Changes Cells, Contributes to Obesity on Wednesday August 25, 2021 @12:18PM (#28303530)

Only thing that can compete with this is if pornhub decided to ban porn.
Re:What happens to your brain when you give up sugar on Wednesday August 18, 2021 @10:51AM (#28221805)
Same argument could be made about social media. Just because you don't see folks prostituting themselves for a minute of fame doesn't mean... wait a minute ... never mind.
