Re:Restrooms along the Norwegian Scenic Routes on Sunday November 01, 2026 @12:02PM (#50327428)
Why has the title of this post been changed, when HN rules are to use the title of the article? The rename is less engaging and misses the point completely. Moderators did this or?
Yes it does.
> For someone with circadian depression, their symptoms will change with the seasons, due to the shifting day lengths.

Most if not all Norwegians know this phenomena. Winter depression is considered a normal occurrence, starting right around this time of year.

Re:A farewell to Arc browser on Thursday October 22, 2026 @02:33PM (#50199291)
I will not switch to Dia, however easy they make it. Why?

Bacause I don’t want to be pushed towards a $100 per month plan where the «key feature» is an AI morning brief.

Re:A farewell to Arc browser on Thursday October 22, 2026 @02:24PM (#50199182)
Dia has a pretty hefty paid plan last time I checked, and so you will be using a browser constantly pushing you from free towards paid.
Yes, yet the bulk of my issues outlined in the post were after that.

Either they kept introducing even worse policies, or they allowed them

I really hate this company and how they operate. Key example, they sold a «lifetime» plan for Day One that was quite expensive. I used it a lot and went for it.

After they saturated the market for lifetime buyers, they started launching new features not included for lifetime buyers. Annoying.

Then they started pushing advertising for upgrading. Very annoying.

Then they started taking away features lifetime plan users had already. Infuriating.

Then they made it so that support was only available for users on a subscription plan. My complaints weren’t even answered. Unforgivable.

75k per call. CAC is about to go through the roof
Average and median is not the same. Listed speed and actual speed is not the same (as mentioned in the article).

Also, about the size of the countries. The underlying model scales, that’s the point. Unless you were talking about political willingness to back large commitments. That’s a another question.

Re:Hetzner Price Adjustment (June 15th, 2026) on Monday June 15, 2026 @05:39PM (#48547362)
Actually participating in commerce is considered a pillar in defining a liberal democracy, in the words of John Locke, so I would say that is a right.
But what does that give you? If the model is far less capable? What will it do for you with that Norwegian data, that a better model could not do with better search or context?
Your statement assumes training data is the only thing that matters for the big players, while not considering it limiting for the small Norwegian model. That’s a fallacy.
As a Norwegian this sounds like a mistake. Who will use this LLM? Where? For what? The underlying data could be made more easily searchable and digestible for agents in general if the goal is better knowledge of Norwegian culture.

Riff is Databutton. They rebranded.
Some people have mentioned that this is a U.S incorporated company (Delaware). Recommend reading Moneyland by Oliver Bullough if you want to know more about the U.S role as the new shell company haven.

The island states have been dethroned.

What are the alternatives for aspiring tinkerers now?

My wife (cybernetics engineer) and I are buying a 3D printer and planned getting an Arduino as an entry point. What should we do instead? What are the best communities and resources?

Please blog and post about this. I need a how to.
Re:Oracle is underwater on its 'astonishing' $300B OpenAI deal on Wednesday November 19, 2025 @02:10AM (#45976677)
That might be precisely why OpenAI is pushing an over investment in infrastructure. When VCs are no longer willing to substitute compute, having more compute available than natural demand will drive the prices down.

Re:Minecraft removing obfuscation in Java Edition on Wednesday October 29, 2025 @02:53PM (#45751346)
Agree! We saw this a lot. Launching with the Quest 3, we were often the first company to do X, Y, Z despite being months after new features had been released in the SDKs because they were poorly documented (and often even conflicting).

Diverging even slightly from the demo use case would quickly feel like Sisyphus; so close, but never succeeding in getting over the hill.

Good for marketing in certain cases (to be the first), but bad for the community of builders
