Guilty as accused. I try to keep to an absolute minimum. Like docker data-dir and IDE. With that i can atleast use my machine.

otherwise this macos notarisation, along with a possibly of cpu heating issues with left thunderbolt usage and corporate av scanning, makes my machine, next to useless

Re:Some WeWork Board Members Seek to Remove Adam Neumann as CEO on Monday September 23, 2019 @04:52AM (#21047090)
Even if someone were to invest in we work they will expect bargain price, given things considering.

I think SoftBank is probably pushing things further enough until they raise money for their next vision fund.

Re:Some WeWork Board Members Seek to Remove Adam Neumann as CEO on Sunday September 22, 2019 @05:43PM (#21044155)
Prof Galloway wrote an article just days ago laying out what will happen to we work given the IPO is shelved now. First one was to replace the CEO.

Re:Against Against Pseudoaddiction on Wednesday September 18, 2019 @06:10AM (#21003764)
Gotcha, that’s super shady. My friend who used to be pharmacist said, he can guess fraudulent prescriptions, because they were always the one just before the pharmacy was about to shut doors and has a prescription that will lead him to empty the full pill box behind the counter.
Re:Against Against Pseudoaddiction on Tuesday September 17, 2019 @08:26AM (#20994113)
Glad to hear from an actual doctor. Is it common practice to get previous medical history and notes if you are seeing someone for the first time who has been under someone else's care? Or are there strange laws preventing you from getting the continuity information from the other doc? In Australia once we give consent, the other clinic/hospital would release notes electronically. Sometimes it's also a quick check with state PBS registration to get confirmation on dosage already being prescribed.

PS: based on my personal experience in Australia, not for opioids but for other controlled substances like amphetamines or ritalin.

Re:Against Against Pseudoaddiction on Tuesday September 17, 2019 @08:22AM (#20994071)
I agree with you on principle. In real terms but a PCP who sees you regularly is more likely to take steps towards tapering dosage. If you see someone for the first time and you ask for a particular medication that's scheduled, unless they call the previous PCP to get old diagnosis and dosage etc to make sure things are in order.

PS: I'm not in the states, but in Australia, where things are quite different.

Edit: fix grammar and typo

Re:Against Against Pseudoaddiction on Tuesday September 17, 2019 @07:46AM (#20993843)
Yup! I am still lost with the approach to treating opioid addiction.

For example, benzodiazepine class drugs have a very defined dosage reduction schedule and it's never discontinued right away just because of drug seeking behavior. Same with anti-depressants(the Wellbutrin kind) where dependance Is very real and expected.

Or wait for the conscious elevating "WeSit" tech unicorn that changes the way you sit
I wonder if this was the real reason behind the Zoom backflip. It certainly cannot be good for business if your app gets marked as malware.

Seriously though, they should have owned the mistake, apologised and reversed their decision rather than handling it with a PR spin. It is a great product but somehow it has left me with little trust for zoom. It's probably still not too late.

Does anyone know if bluejeans et all are also removing this? Or does it require public shaming, like the zoom case?

Absolutely correct. (cough) javascript at Microsoft.
Fair point. Compaq in 1980's is probably the best case for reverse engineering and building a robust system. In some cases it out performed IBM PC's.

However, I have to admit, reverse engineering a home desktop is different from a airline software, considering that bugs can instantly kill people.

Re:Why we chose Rust on Thursday June 20, 2019 @08:01PM (#20238684)
It seems to be a guest post. The url makes it appear like Atlassian is doing some rust. Which it is not atleast, in this case.

Edit: ex-atlassian here. Bitbucket initial implementation was in python when Atlassian bought them in 2011. Not sure what the stack is now.

I think in general anything about amp receives a bit of attention to put it mildly. I'm curious if anyone from amp/google is lurking around to give a perspective. It is reproducible on all my devices now. I remember it working at least yesterday...
If you are keen to try out how it works, give https://www.nextdns.io/ a try.

I'm not the maker of the app not can vouch for its integrity but you get a sense of how much network bandwidth ad and tracking takes up on your network.

Also related, I found by Bravia running Android tv would come to crawling halt if I used a pi-hole and loaded YouTube. I did the right thing by buying YouTube premium but still Youtube was doing aggressive pings back to their ad servers even with telemetry disabled. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have used a pi-hole based blocker for a while, and I have noticed increasingly ads showing up because they are using same domains, both in-app(iOS) and normal desktop. I've settled for a mix of network wide ad-block via pi-hole and adguard(uses mitm for https blocking) to remove almost all ads. In my experience uBlock Origin has made my aging laptop battery drain a lot quicker.

PS: I'm not sure if I would recommend Adguard, but works fine, but somehow the root certificate keeps me left a little bit dreary about possible future Adguard intentions.

Re:Grocery Outlet S-1 on Thursday May 16, 2019 @02:45AM (#19926733)
When I first looked at this, my reaction was hold on! Is there a business called Grocery Outlet? Downsides of living down under. :(
Re:Intel Responds to Security Research Findings on Wednesday January 03, 2018 @05:35PM (#16066006)
According to project zero report, a lot more than intel CPU's are affected by this issue. See relavant HN post here

"These vulnerabilities affect many CPUs, including those from AMD, ARM, and Intel, as well as the devices and operating systems running them."

Re:Test Load Balancer on Friday August 14, 2015 @08:48AM (#10059824)
I agree. The primary purpose of the server is to split the tests and send them for execution. I started this as a side project[1], but never got much further with it.

Re:Test Load Balancer on Friday August 14, 2015 @08:18AM (#10059724)
Is this project still maintained? I don't see any commits since 2013. I saw a demo of this when I used to work at TW and gave it a shot and it worked like a charm. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any rspec3 runners!

Re:Show HN: a social network conducted entirely through email on Tuesday October 04, 2011 @11:17AM (#3071262)
Cool. It does bring a new way of discussion to the table. But was wondering what would normally be an users behaviour? You could selectively reply to it, mute it or mark it as spam. Any trends data you got so far to throw light on this?
:D Server not responding. Sounds like a rough day :)
Cool Idea. Unable to get the app to work though - Error message( This session has expired. Please return to the app to try again .) Just curious though, does it by any chance violate the content laws(like dmca?)
Re:Show HN: a social network conducted entirely through email on Tuesday October 04, 2011 @10:42AM (#3071078)
Understandable. Wouldn't that mean that spam will roll very quickly to many email accounts? Wouldn't spam engines start picking up application emails as spam emails(assuming once some discussion goes rogue with spammers the email receivers mark the conversation as spam)? Or am i missing something here.
