Re:Congress Accidentally Legalized Weed Six Years Ago on Monday July 15, 2024 @08:20PM (#40972620)
A gummy isn’t a hemp product. A gummy is a candy infused with a hemp product.

The article’s claim about gummies is supported only by shops, not by courts.

Re:If gravity isn't a force, then why does it "need" a boson? on Wednesday March 20, 2024 @08:59AM (#39765806)
I recognize your name and believe you know what you are talking about, so please, please tell us the why! You or someone you know probable has a blog post or article you can link, maybe?
Re:Google's CEO faces employee questions about layoffs on Saturday February 03, 2024 @08:33AM (#39240189)
Why? Humans aren’t seeking out quality content now, when most popular content is spam advertising, rage bait, and propaganda.
Lots of people have. From Amish to communes to cults.
The term "dad joke" is already promoting a stereotype.
Re:Calculus Made Easy by Silvanus P. Thompson (1910) on Sunday October 29, 2023 @07:56PM (#38064085)
It’s extremely niche (abstract, “Platonic”) to ever need to care about derivatives of non piecewise-analytic functions.
Re:What happened to the microfinance company Kiva? on Monday August 14, 2023 @02:09PM (#37124413)
Nonprofit just means no shareholders. Direct employees and vendors can still get rich. In Kiva's case, the local partner banks do really well.
Re:Is Dark Mode Good for Your Eyes? (2020) on Sunday December 11, 2022 @06:14PM (#33948691)
If room is totally dark, there is no brightness level that is comfortable in light mode, due to high contrast with ambient. It here is simply too much area lit up.
Re:One kitchen, hundreds of internet restaurants on Saturday August 27, 2022 @08:13AM (#32618116)
There is nothing wrong with one business running two brands to sell two different products.
Re:How to build a chess engine on Sunday July 03, 2022 @05:19PM (#31971134)
Rubbish chess engines aren’t fun. MacOS has one built in.

Try CrazyBishop / TheChess / Chess Lvl.100

Or chess.com leveled bots, or play with handicap, Or play humans online! Infinite supply of beatable opponents.

If it’s async, it’s not a standup, it’s something different, and far far better.
Relativity doesn’t say space has to be curved; that’s just an interpretation.

You could interpret relativity only as curved paths in flat space due to gravity, instead of flat paths in curved space. The math is much uglier, though, so in a metaphysical sense, Tesla was wrong.

Einstein famously said “god does not play dice” regarding quantum mechanics, and “not more open-minded than Einstein” isn’t much of an insult.

Re:Interview with John Cook: mathematical consultant on Tuesday June 28, 2022 @08:59PM (#31915194)
His argument about employment is weird. I am 99% sure he could get paid more with less lead-chasing if he worked for one or more tech companies as a researcher, analyst, or developer. Maybe his consulting work is more fun and interesting, but “agency over income” is doubtful.
Re:Most apps are just Database front ends. Change my mind on Thursday June 23, 2022 @09:39PM (#31857014)
Non-turn-based video games

Animated and rendered graphics

Calculators

Hardware drivers (radio, compass, metal detector, accelerometer)

Sure, apps have data storage and “frontends” for UI and computation.

We could say most databases are just backends for UI and computations.

You’ve already thought about this more than the legislators who voted for this inane and unconstitutional law, who are just trying to “own the libs” for their voter base.
They want the driver code public but not the hardware code.
Re:I would like a job writing Haskell on Tuesday February 08, 2022 @10:03AM (#30259188)
Do they have side income based on their leadership of GHC?
Re:Myths about Social Media on Wednesday January 19, 2022 @01:16AM (#29990581)
You know what the vast majority of old people are doing? Not going to the store with you. Hello, sampling bias!
Re:Illusion of the Year 2021 on Saturday January 01, 2022 @04:42PM (#29763147)
The picture is gray, but the actual shoes are pink, but bathed in green light. Some people sometimes can mentally remove the green lighting.
Re:Is this proof of lab leak lies? on Sunday September 12, 2021 @08:37AM (#28500586)
Why? Will the truth mitigate the prevent or prevent a future one? What matters is the possibility of a leak, not if one happened.

The origin leak is nothing compared to the repeated failures hat happened after and are still happening.

Re:Reducing Wasted Food at Home on Sunday June 30, 2019 @09:11AM (#20318008)
Have you tried eating more vegetables? It’s not hard for one person to eat 2lbs of carrots in the weeks before they go bad in a fridge.
Re:Reducing Wasted Food at Home on Sunday June 30, 2019 @09:09AM (#20318004)
That’s not etiquette, it’s a weight loss diet fad.
Re:Reducing Wasted Food at Home on Sunday June 30, 2019 @09:08AM (#20317997)
Bea Johnson wastes a lot of jet fuel, which likely dwarfs everything else she does with her lifestyle.
It's the same as spending money on nice food or drink, or a fancier home. Money is a means, not an end.
There is a real story in here, but the headline is textbook survivorship bias and selection bias.
Re:Startup idea checklist on Sunday June 23, 2019 @07:41AM (#20254840)
Maybe if you are building rocket ships. But even SpaceX is doing pretty well with rockets that explode sometimes.
Math is one of many subjects. Many Harvard students head remedial classes in music, art, and literature too.
That’s probably a why the article was written.
How do you know the difference between not caring and not being given any information they could care about?
