A week or two

First the product they sell, then the product they got early access too...

I know they waited two months with this but wouldn't it be wiser to wait just a little bit more than a few minutes after the fix released?

Loose them on what?
Re:PostgreSQL 19 Interactive Tour on Monday September 07, 2026 @03:41PM (#49602150)
I first encountered them in various stackoverflow answers, this is the next step. IIRC they did promote themselves but it was subtle and the answers were good.
Thanks Andrew
Re:ChatGPT Desktop (Codex Desktop) for Linux on Thursday August 13, 2026 @09:59AM (#49286108)
HN comment quality took a nosedive recently, You can predict the comments just based on the story, almost all of them cynical and snarky remarks. It used to be a place to come and learn from technical experts.
Re:Europe EV Sales BEVs Jump 50% & Reach 26% Market Share on Sunday August 02, 2026 @07:51PM (#49149593)
Yes there are incentives to buy EVs but they are still much more expensive than ICE vehicles (I'm in the market for a new car so that is an observation from my experience)
Re:Seedance 2.5 on Sunday August 02, 2026 @04:41AM (#49142402)
It's going to be just like social media. A flood of content from the talentless masses exposing us to their lazy and shallow ideas they just cannot keep to themselves. Once in a while a diamond in the rough will be found, but at what cost?
Re:LG to ban residential proxies from smart TV apps on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @04:41PM (#49013127)
I recently had to replace my 5 year old LG OLED with a new one. The UX has been downgraded to an abysmal level. It's just unfathomable how such simple UI widgets take multiple seconds to load and how can QA say "ok, that's good enough". And don't get me started about the shoehorned "AI". A feature that, if you forget to turn it off will randomly interrupt whatever you're watching to talk to you in an almost unintelligible metallic voice. The build quality of the remote control also took a nose dive. Image quality is great but the same as my old TV, no advancements there.
How long has it been since we last saw a "LLMs can't really think/be useful/be better than a human expert" discussion on HN? There used to be so many!

At the other end when you need to convert your crypto to real currency.
Re:GLM 5.2 Is Out on Saturday June 13, 2026 @07:46PM (#48522629)
What do you expect them to do instead?
What are some terms that would have benefitted from elucidations? Also can you give an example were the tone felt arrogant?
Re:CT scans of BYD car parts on Wednesday June 03, 2026 @12:23AM (#48379874)
There is a joke just about that in Back to the Future (1985)!

I love these sort of projects. Well done!
Re:Ben Lerner's Big Feelings on Monday April 20, 2026 @06:23AM (#47832348)
This is part of a certain type of journalism. You're free to dislike it but it's doing something very specific that most readers of this type of journalism and literature in general do enjoy. You may be coming to this with the (not unusual for the HN crowd) overly stemmy attitude that scans for nuggets of relevant data (and only relevant data!) that can be processed in the most efficient way possible. This is not it, and if it was forced to be we would lose something precious.
Re:Ben Lerner's Big Feelings on Monday April 20, 2026 @05:21AM (#47831954)
What's wrong with it?
It will take years before the effect will be felt but I do believe since watching football has become so expensive younger generations are going to watch less of it.
Re:Can I Run AI locally? on Saturday March 14, 2026 @06:09AM (#47375104)
A consensus has formed in front of your eyes. The same development that resulted in you using the word "kill" in your earlier comment to refer to a computer process. For some reason you refuse to accept it.
Have you thought about why they developed a need for intellectual validation?
Re:Andrej Karpathy talks about "Claws" on Saturday February 21, 2026 @07:59AM (#47100407)
Have you actually used it successfully for these purposes?
Re:Andrej Karpathy talks about "Claws" on Saturday February 21, 2026 @07:09AM (#47100033)
Can you give some example for what you use it for? I understand giving a summary of what's waiting in your inbox but what else?
Re:Andrej Karpathy talks about "Claws" on Saturday February 21, 2026 @07:07AM (#47100025)
Maybe I'm missing something obvious but, being contained and only having access to specific credentials is all nice and well but there is still an agent that orchestrates between the containers that has access to everything with one level of indirection.
Re:Claude Sonnet 4.6 on Tuesday February 17, 2026 @02:56PM (#47052349)
In my limited experience I found 5.3-Codex to be extremely dry, terse and to the point. I like it.
Maybe this will change one day but at the current moment this is an immediate turnoff. It's like someone trying to show you their project day 1 and it's a page filled with ads and a newsletter popup. You may have good reasons to do that but it doesn't instill a sense of trust and quality.
Re:ASML firing 1700 people, mostly managers on Wednesday January 28, 2026 @08:22AM (#46795032)
It is done because management needs to show that profits are increasing or they themselves will lose their jobs. Since they do not want to lose their jobs and they do not know how to increase profits they decided to fire 1700 employees with the hope that less expenses will translate into larger profits.

They've also done another thing:

>ASML also announced a new share buyback programme of up to €12 billion, to be executed by 31 December 2028.

They have €12 billion they don't know what to do with with so they will give it to shareholders, for a nice gain of less than 1% per year for the next 3 years. Assuming the annual salary costs of each of the 1700 employees is 150K (likely much much lower) those 12 billion could have paid for their employment for the next 47 years.

So was the last lottery winner. I can certainly improve my chances but there is a huge amount of luck involved.

This has been making the rounds for the years and I think what captivates me the most is the art style. There is something about it I cannot put my finger on. Just like the art style of Moebius or the 90's game Flashback.
Re:The entire New Yorker Archive Is Now Fully Digitized on Thursday December 25, 2025 @12:15PM (#46385692)
I hope this gets incorporated into the existing website. I'm not an active subscriber but I used to be and I always thought there was a very fertile "other articles you might like" grounf that the New Yorker never took advantage of, given it's reputation and legacy.
