Lol so this means Netflix/streaming is the next trend going down?
Re:The Junior Hiring Crisis on Tuesday December 02, 2025 @09:44PM (#46129693)
What you are saying is not a hiring problem, but an education one.

If colleges stayed up to date, and teach valuable skills, the jump wouldn't be so steep!

You can now ask Gemini, about a video. Very useful!
That was not a person, it was an LLM.
Re:Evals in 2025: benchmarks to build models people can use on Saturday September 20, 2025 @09:21PM (#45319177)
By the composition of evals. Plus secondary metrics like parameter size, and token cost.

Not perfect, but useful.

Yes. We should only allow social media in a printed format.

Show HN: VC-LLM – Visualization of YC Summer 25 startups

https://amvizion.org

Hi HN! I’ve been experimenting with large language models for data analysis and thought today’s demo day would be a fun way to gather feedback. The problem I see is that for the average investor, it’s tough to get familiar with 100+ startups in a short amount of time. To make it easier, I scored the startups across 12 dimensions so anyone can filter based on their own investment thesis. There’s...

Nothing to do with linear, meaningful projections on embedding spaces, and everything to do with efficient maintenance of legacy data reporting systems.
While the critique is valid, that does not offer a path to the solution.

Utilitarism is the ruling moral philosophy, and the only possible countermeasure is externalities but that depends on an effective government which is even more unlikely that asking for ethical behavior to corporations.

Re:What even is a small language model now? on Saturday May 24, 2025 @02:53PM (#44083060)
Just as the other comment "have to" is a very strong word. But there are benefits to it: a) adaptability to local weather patterns, b) no access to WiFi in large properties.
Re:What even is a small language model now? on Saturday May 24, 2025 @02:51PM (#44083051)
Need is a very strong word. We don't need a lot of we have today.

But as a hobbyist I would prefer to program in an LLM than learn a bunch of algorithms, and sensor readings. It's also very similar to how I would think about it, making it easier to debug.

Re:What even is a small language model now? on Saturday May 24, 2025 @12:52PM (#44082241)
There are places where: a) weather predictions are unreliable, b) there is scarcity of water. Just making the right decision on at what hour to water is a huge monthly saving of water.
Re:Claude 4 on Thursday May 22, 2025 @06:02PM (#44067629)
Don't be so concerned. There's ample evidence that thinking is often disassociated from the output.

My take is that this is a user experience improvement, given how little people actually goes on to read the thinking process.

It's funny that even in a simple setting the AI couldn't avoid to hallucinate. As this clearly isn't a champions match.
Re:Canvas is a new way to write and code with ChatGPT on Thursday October 03, 2024 @09:21PM (#41736876)
That thinking is driven by limited product imagination.

The kind of apps that will be built in the next 5 years, are nowhere near what we have today.

Developers will need to update their skillset, though.

+1 any feedback that is not based in data, I dismiss it as anecdotal. Congratulations on your success.
Re:GPT-fabricated scientific papers on Google Scholar on Saturday September 07, 2024 @11:50PM (#41478087)
I can see how LLMs contribute to raise the standard in that field. For example, surveying related research. Also, maybe in the not too distant future, reproducing (some) of the results.
Re:People can read their manager's mind on Thursday September 05, 2024 @11:50PM (#41462723)
I find this behavior when using ChatGPT.

If I ask for a task, and the output is not the one expected: I ask for the motivation that lead to the bad decisions. Then, ChatGPT proceeds to retry the task "incorporating" my feedback, not answering my question!!

> The "off by one" predilection of LLMs is going to lead to this massive erosion of trust in whatever "Truth" is supposed to be, and it's terrifying and going to make for a bumpy couple of years.

This sounds like searching for truth is a bad thing, but instead is what has triggered every philosophical enquiry in history.

I'm quiet bullish, and think that LLMs will lead to a Renaissance in the concept of truth. Similar to what Wittgenstein did, Plato's cavern or late middle age empiricists.

Re:What I Learned Working for Mark Zuckerberg on Monday August 19, 2024 @09:24PM (#41295975)
As an employee, I've requested the same to early stage startups. No amount of interviews, will give you enough information to assess its potential.

Show HN: BI-LLM democratize data analysis

Hi HN! BI-LLM (https://github.com/amVizion/BI-LLM) automates data analysis workflows on semi-structured data. The assumption is that many decisions could be led by data, but instead are made by intuition because doing analysis would be too slow or expensive. The sweet-spot is decisions based on a few hundreds to a couple thousand items: too many to analyze manually, too few to dedicate an...

Re:Space is a latent sequence: A theory of the hippocampus on Thursday August 01, 2024 @10:32PM (#41135628)
I've had the theory that our identity begins as an extension of the representation of space.

We are simply the node at the center in a coordinate system, connected to the same emotions, rewards, and memories that every other node in the graph.

> A bright, capable mind of 40 with an imagination factor of .75 may only have the cumulative real-world experience of a 10-year-old.

While provocative, that argument does not take into account the development of the brain. Processing early experiences are far different from the ones when the brain is fully developed. This includes the storage of memories (knowledge).

Time-efficiency is not the only metric to consider. Privacy, and offline mode are also important. Great tool for federated learning.
Re:General Theory of Neural Networks on Sunday July 14, 2024 @07:29PM (#40964025)
Category theory is the mathematical formulation/foundation of this "Uber Network".

Graphs are the most basic unit of meaning.

Well, you fixed a logical contradiction.
Now I understand why Marc was so bullish on crypto.
I wish we would distinguish editing, from writing.
Apparently, inner dialog can adapt to thinking, but is intrinsically a better option (compared to visual thinking, for example).
