I was fascinated by this once I learned how it worked. At the time I was learning php and wrote a script that would draw graphics based on the requesting ip address and return as gif, then used that as my avatar on a few phpbbs. Learned a lot.
Re:Cardinal – Virtual modular synthesizer plugin on Monday August 19, 2024 @09:17PM (#41295944)
Do you mean Reason? This was the first virtual synth with patching UI that Propellerhead released a bit after ReBirth.

ReBirth was amazing though and would love if someone brings it back. They had an iPad version that worked pretty well but apparently Roland forced them to take it down.

Pretty sure it was Nicholas Jitkoff[1] and his team. He had done Quicksilver[2] a few years back which popularized this single input interface for osx desktop.

Easy, add a “roles” temporal table to store all these rels and more.

Hilarious song and a decent viz, thanks for sharing :]

It’s a DAG so you can just overengineer it with postgres and a transitive closure.

Aleksi Perälä has been this for me the past few years and is the one pushing mystical electronic music forward that’s approachable in the way BoC and RDJ are.

I have limited exposure to Clojure transducers but I spend most of my time writing JS/TS and I've found thi.ng/transducers[0] a pleasure to work with and super elegant for constructing data processing workflows.

This. It was privacy badger blocking connect.soundcloud.

The opposite for me, working in Firefox and not Chrome. It's a WEBGL2 shader I believe.

Great, I can now attempt to sell my Vive Pro because this will surely drive up demand for it.
The root of the word is ‘rob’ which means a slave. Robota is ‘slave work’.
One of my favorite work of his was a poster[1] he did for a Darfur antiwar campaign, I still remember seeing this on streets in NYC. Super powerful and timeless image.

The operator overloading is potentially huge. Along with the BigInt/Float extensions, it makes it a great target for scientific computing applications.
Re:A Psychedelic Renaissance on Sunday May 12, 2019 @09:46AM (#19891857)
Agreed. Techgnosis was a very influential read for me and Expanding Mind is still a very unique program.

A bit late probably, but for anyone reading this I highly recommend tracking down Davis’s interview with McKenna conducted shortly before he passed. It was probably one of the first things I heard from either and became interested for life in both.

Looks great! Looking forward to diving in.

It is strange, I've been in the planning/research stage to build exactly this tool!

Along these lines, everything on The Bunker NY, Interdimensional Transmissions and sublabel Eye Teeth is great, these people are really pushing and evolving the sound. https://ithq.bandcamp.com/ https://eye-teeth.bandcamp.com/

I also like Luke Vibert's take on acid, more rooted in UK hardcore https://www.discogs.com/artist/253-Luke-Vibert

Indeed, it hardly gets better then the feel of turning hardware knobs in machine interfaces. Some distant resemblance to [0] perhaps?

Re:Dropping Acid on Wednesday November 28, 2018 @11:11AM (#18552632)
Yes he was, by about 3 years. The amazing thing is that nobody in the West or even in the Goa party scene of late 80s/early 90s seems to have heard this stuff until it was re-released a few years ago, at least to my knowledge. https://www.discogs.com/Charanjit-Singh-Synthesizing-Ten-Rag...

I did hear about the tour and that exact response, clearly this stuff was in the distant past for him.

It makes wonder who else got their hands on a 303 in the early 80s elsewhere in the world. We keep digging out great African and Middle-eastern records, there may be more to the Acid story.

Re:Dropping Acid on Wednesday November 28, 2018 @10:25AM (#18552239)
This is like me! ReBirth was pivotal for shifting my computer use from purely gaming to more creative efforts including programming, back in middle school. I’m probably not wrong to say it is has had a huge influence on music software since. I still enjoy using it on the iPad.

Your list is also a good one, I would add this, https://youtu.be/rdfEWFYpYNM

It was amazing to hear Ten Ragas - especially as someone who grew up around Goa Trance. Considering that it’s roughly from the same time as Phuture (even predating it by some years) it is like the lost eastern counterpart to Acid. The music is the interface, the medium is the message, etc.

Re:Building a Text Editor for a Digital-First Newsroom on Friday April 13, 2018 @12:50AM (#16827194)
This was my experience as well, quick to pick up but harder to master with more complex specs and commands even if seemingly simple. Understanding the concepts and the design patterns used in the examples goes a long way, it is a powerful framework.
Amazon investing into the Firefox OS would be super beneficial for both companies long term. With AWS, Amazon is already powering a big chunk of the web so supporting Firefox /OS and help it become the best mobile web client makes sense and will make a ton of developers happy, which is all they need to do for now if they want a larger piece of the mobile market.

And you know, makes sense branding-wise. A Fire phone runs Firefox!
