Re:Who knew the first AI battles would be fought by artists? on Thursday December 15, 2022 @04:52PM (#34006328)
"It hasn't happened in the past, therefore it won't happen in the future" is simply just a fallacy.

If the demand is high, so will the price. And for AI, data is everything. And data is the domain of the biggest companies.

What would be instead?
I enjoy it. There are a lot of communicators who shy away from giving their own opinion about anything that isn't the overwhelming consensus. They might be wrong after all. It is refreshing to have somebody actually disagree with something and then back it up.
Re:Why Apple Will Switch to ARM-Based Macs (2014) on Tuesday August 23, 2022 @08:31AM (#32563901)
It just shows that predicting the future is really difficult. It's also not logical why HN being wrong in one case means it will be wrong in another.
I get the impression that firefox is regaining lost users lately
Re:I regret my website redesign on Friday July 22, 2022 @06:13PM (#32197743)
Such things can happen very easily even when everybody has good intentions especially if nobody keeps the entire team focused.
Re:Work from home and the office real estate apocalypse on Sunday June 05, 2022 @10:20AM (#31631215)
If we look at the most extreme case where everybody had an office or at least a desk and then everybody moves to homeoffice 100% then it massively decreases then demand for property in general. Everybody already has a home. Even if more people buy bigger homes then or rent a personal office, lots of former office space will be converted for other uses.

So frustrating to find background Information to a big current event. Google will aggressively show the same news articles over and over.
Re:'Dieselgate' trial opens in Germany without ex-VW boss on Thursday September 16, 2021 @04:14PM (#28556911)
You have a caricature of Germany in your head if you believe people yell at you for crossing at red on an empty road.
Re:Amazon workers vote against unionizing in Alabama on Friday April 09, 2021 @04:32PM (#26755753)
These laws and regulations developed not just randomly but because corporations treated workers almost like slaves.
Netflix makes a lot of money in Europe. Most of that profit would move to the US... even more than it currently does.
So if Google would have had to use their phones to help find the SS find hidden Jewa, perfectly legal in Nazi Germany, they can and should do so since it is after all not their responsibility to fix Nazi Germany?
We don't know if Google's actions did make them a tiny bit less bad or not
It would hurt a bit though if Pakistan did not have Google's and apple's services though. So oppressing people would come at a price.
Re:EU to unveil landmark law curbing power of tech giants on Tuesday December 15, 2020 @11:18AM (#25431666)
That would be a dream come true for European tech companies. Imagine the race to fill the gap of Google.com. EU may not be the US when it comes to software but there are many smart people here that would have a huge motivation.
Re:Amazon's Anti-Union Training Video [video] on Sunday August 04, 2019 @07:49AM (#20605912)
Unions were a central driving force in labour protection laws and the lack of unions in the US might be a reason why you have so many people that are overworked and burn out.
Re:Amazon's Anti-Union Training Video [video] on Sunday August 04, 2019 @07:43AM (#20605884)
So if only the people, the workers produce stuff, and the form of organization like the union is parasitic then the cooperation does not produce stuff as well.
