kontxt

I made https://kontxt.io to highlight, share, organize, and discover the best parts of the World Wide Web.

People I share articles with now know the exact parts that are relevant and they can quickly skip between the highlights and we can discuss inline to maintain context. It lets me and other people publicly share what we highlight in an easily searchable way so you can find quality content from trusted sources. Want to see what resources other people like you, in this case programmers, found useful and shared. Boom! Now you can. Starting to look into something new that you’re unfamiliar with, say investing, wouldn’t it be great to see what resources other investors previously found useful? Boom! Now you can. Now imagine having this tool at work with all your super smart go-workers? Boom! Now you can. It works for PDFs, too. It’s just a wonderful research and planning tool to save, share, organize, and discuss digital information, which is a huge time saver and productivity booster. Step 1: Google, Step 2: Kontxt, Step 3: Success. :)

It’s really a multi-purpose overlay for the entire World Wide Web with unlimited use-cases. And I’ve recently gained access To OpenAI and have some cool AI stuff coming for preemptive highlights and auto generated reading lists based on interests and past reading history.

I built this tool for myself. I’m an avid reader always looking to grow my skills. If this is you, too, sign up and let’s learn and grow together.

This is one reason I built https://kontxt.io for enterprise. It instantly connects people to specific page-parts to have localized conversations directly on the source of internal and external websites and digital documents, so everything is where you need it, when you need it, and anyone that joins later has full context.

Hello HN! I'm Dave. I've worked on https://kontxt.io for a few years. Kontxt's a multi-purpose online communication and engagement tool for 1.) ENTERPRISE productivity, 2.) interactive and remote EDUCATION, 3.) expandable native AD platform for digital publishers, and 4.) a SOCIAL network to share the best parts of the web. There's a different business model for each solution.

I've built out the product. I'm looking for a partner with notable business and sales experience in at least one of these categories: enterprise, education, digital publishing and advertising, or social. I know HN is a tech community, but if you know anyone who'd be interested, I'd love to chat and see where the future takes us. Feel free to contact me at [email protected].

Hope the new year is off to a positive start for everyone! :)

I used React client-side, Node server-side, and MySQL as the db. I only mentioned Kontxt here because I demoed it for Thomson Reuters because it could be helpful for their legal professionals as a collaboration tool after they find documents via their WestLaw legal search product, and your tool reminded me of it. I actually used Kontxt as a sales pitch to highlight their annual report and add some calculations and explanations about how much money they could make. Nice work, again!

Super cool--and very fast! Anyone looking to collaborate on these can easily add Kontxt (https://www.kontxt.io) right on to them and have localized discussions directly on page-parts.

I LOVE how the article used highlights.

And it seems that all the posts on the changelog.com platform use highlights. I wish more people and articles did this. I actually built Kontxt (https://kontxt.io) so everyone can add highlights to websites they visit or own, but it has more interactivity with inline comments, polls, mentions, tags, and smart navigation.

Please everyone, highlight everything! It's so useful!

Hey there! I think any place to share what people create and collect feedback is cool. I just uploaded my project, but is there a way to edit the description?

Cool! Looks nice! Check out https://kontxt.io. It can convert PDFs to HTML. It also adds an inline collaboration layer to the document with inline highlights, comments, @mentions, polls, tags, and smart navigation. I've tried it on academic papers from arXiv. Awesome for sharing and collaborating with others.

I created a similar service Kontxt (https://kontxt.io) that converts PDFs to websites with Google Doc like shareable controls and inline annotations: highlights, comments (with @mentions & deep-links to page-parts), polls, and auto-scroll navigation.

No. That part of the code was designed before W3C Web Annotation standards were released.

Hello emiliovesprini! You are correct. That's actually why the username "kontxt" was specifically selected. Decided to share here because people exploring the wiki and documentation space might find it useful. Best regards fellow code creator.

Kontxt.io is a modern version of Del.icio.us, but it has advanced features like inline highlights, comments, etc.

Kontxt (https://kontxt.io) could be a perfect inline communication and engagement layer to enhance wikis and docs with inline highlights, comments, polls, @mentions, page navigation, shareable deep links, and permission-based sharing.

Kontxt (https://kontxt.io) lets you write inline highlights, comments, polls, etc, on digital content with permission based sharing. You can share full articles with your responses on it (example: https://www.kontxt.io/proxy/https://www.independent.co.uk/li...) or a summary view (example: https://www.kontxt.io/document/d/CChEtxTRf9lt3IZhuTSw1zES8Dg...). Soon we'll add a WYSIWYG editor that you can write your own content and references content from other annotated sources.

Is this the type of functionality you're looking for if it could be self-hosted? How much would you be willing to pay for such a tool?

Check out https://Kontxt.io. It’s like Pocket, Genius, and Reddit combined. There’s personal features for note taking, organization, and permission based sharing, and social features to discover the best parts of the web.

I'm the founder of a new service in this space: https://www.kontxt.io. Check it out, and let me know what you think.

Enterprise - It’s Slack, but on top of digital content.

Education - LMS with interactive layer for notes and assignments.

Website - It’s Disqus, but inline with your content.

Personal - It’s Pocket, Genius, and Reddit combined.

I felt this way, too, especially right after college. I always had a 2-3 hour commute, but luckily via public transit so I could make use of my time. At first, I saw my commute as a waste of time, but then I began reading avidly every day on my commute, and quickly what was once the worst part of my day became the best part. I'm an effective skimmer, but realized I was still wasting a fair amount of time trying to find quality articles. I thought it'd be cool if articles had highlights that could be quickly reviewed to determine if an article was worth my time, and even cooler if I could see the articles my friends were reading with their highlights, all with the ability to comment and interact with other readers. After that, I used my commute to research topics to bring it to fruition, and then built it: https://www.kontxt.io. It's a little light on content right now, since I just released the beta, but check it out. Maybe we can learn together.

Focus on what you're interested in, which will change overtime, and just keep learning.

I'm the founder of https://kontxt.io which is an integrative micro blogging platform that clones websites and converts PDFs (and most other documents since they can be converted to PDFs) to websites that's enhanced with real-time collaboration including highlights, comments, polls, @mentons, speedy navigation, etc. It lets you save, share, and respond to articles in context.

The collaborative technology can also easily be added to any website or blog, too!

I'll soon be adding search, a public feed like Twitter for discovery, and a way to extract and use highlights across articles. Check it out and let me know what you think.

I'm the founder of https://kontxt.io and I initially built it as a solution to effectively save and share information in context. You can save links, clone websites, convert PDFs (and most other documents since they can be converted to PDFs) to websites that's enhanced with a real-time collaboration & note taking layer. Tag everything from documents to page parts. Organize with folders. Share documents and folders with google doc like share permissions. You can upload URLs and documents directly, use the chrome extension, or even add the collaborative features to your own sites.

Check it out and let me know what you think. I'll be adding search soon, a public feed like Twitter for discovery, and a way to extract and use highlights across documents. If you try it out, like it, and want to start using it, I'll add basic search across titles and tags for you this week.
