Re:Tracking Java Native Memory with JDK Flight Recorder on Monday December 18, 2023 @12:39AM (#38679578)
debugging native calls in itself is also painful. I have switched to using async-profiler (https://github.com/async-profiler/async-profiler) instead of JFR for most of my usecases.

A. it tracks native calls by default B. it can track wall time as well C. you can have neat interactive flamegraphs

Holy based
Yes, Hyper-focus has helped a lot for me. Helped me crack IIT-JEE. I also love programming and when I am dialed in, It is awesome.

Yeah, I wanted to edit the title but it won't allow now. More like 'Twitter allows working from office'
Re:Ask HN: Why is GCP not as used as AWS/Azure? on Wednesday February 02, 2022 @06:47AM (#30176319)
I agree with the first point but can you cite some examples for the second. I personally feel they are/should be most developer friendly company considering they are purely engineering driven.
Do you have paid subs for all of them? If yes, where do you manage so many payments?

Ask HN: Do you think Wealth Inequality is solvable?

I am not asking about the Poverty.I think poverty is a solvable problem. What I am asking about is wealth inequality e.g. Richest 1% holding 50% of the wealth. Do you even think if this is a problem? IMO, no matter what you do, inequality will still be there since there are a subset of people who are overly ambitious and will do anything to reach the top.

Re:Best Wordle guessing strategy on Friday January 14, 2022 @12:40AM (#29930987)
I have been using - WORDS, CHIME, FAULT for the first 3 words. Eliminates all vowels. Then I either proceed to guess the correct position of letters if I have 2-3 yellows from the first 3, or proceed to eliminate consonants.

Ask HN: My PC sometimes boots up but sometimes doesn't, what can be the reason?

I have a personal Dell Alienware laptop 2017 model which has started behaving very weirdly. It sometimes just crashes and then doesn't boot up for next 2-7 days. And after that it starts working again as normal and may not even crash for like 1-2 weeks or may crash the next day. Formatting hasn't helped, reinstalling windows hasn't helped, unistalling drivers hasn't helped so from a technical...

Makes sense since other than the ones mentioned I received a lot of crosswalks, traffic lights and bicycles.
Re:Leetcode has taught me that I'm a bad engineer on Wednesday January 05, 2022 @12:19AM (#29805441)
Exactly and that is precisely why the current interview system is bad. The companies want candidates to pretend they just invented these algos on the spot and haven't solved like 50 similar questions on leetcode to remember the approach.

The algorithms are supposed to be fun and deriving them a group exercise.

Do they really? It seems to be blown up by media. Talented people are still applying in droves for a job at FB. The competition has definitely increased with good options out there for candidates but hiring trouble is bit preposterous.
Re:A Guide to Twitter on Saturday January 01, 2022 @06:04AM (#29757360)
This thing is ruining my experience as well. I don't want any time of suggestions in my feed. I curated it so that there's only people of tech who talk mostly about tech but my feed is pure garbage now filled with political comments, holidays pics etc. of people I don't even follow.
Re:Ask HN: Do you validate your ideas before start coding? on Friday December 24, 2021 @10:50AM (#29674548)
I think it depends on the idea. Generally, you should patch together something as a beta and roll it out to community/friends/family for feedback. But if it is something that will take almost a year for a beta then you should spend time validating as well.
