Most programmers are just code plumbers. It's not like most of you are some research scientists breaking into the unknown. In fact for most jobs I've held programming has been by far the easiest part of the job. Understanding the 'real' requirements from the client (not what they think they want but what they actually want) and many other things are on a completely different level of complexity. Computers are the most basic parts of a business. I've also noticed that most software people are horrible at understanding the business that they are operating in. And think that management is the one that doesn't understand things. Except it's the other way around. Engineers are optimizing the parts that don't need optimizing and don't focus on bringing value to the business.
Musk was not a founder. He might have been an early investor but he didn't found the company. Stop lying with your fucking propaganda. I hope Musk bought you a pony for your bullshit. You are a musk shill. Stop trying to rewrite history you shill.

Rich people usually control their weight better because they have more money to have better food and perhaps personal cooks/access to better restaurants with better food. They act differently because they are rich. Not because of any sort of bullshit mEnTaLiTy concept.

Why would I choose the inferior product?
Re:Safari releases are development hell on Monday April 03, 2023 @12:41PM (#35426961)
You meant to write Chrome.
Re:Safari releases are development hell on Monday April 03, 2023 @12:40PM (#35426937)
Why would they care about developers? They care about their customers. People buy their stuff and you, as a dev, have to support Safari. Whether you like it or not. It's called work.
Re:Safari releases are development hell on Monday April 03, 2023 @12:36PM (#35426851)
They are begging for their collars.

Laughable take. When there was only IE6 people complained. Now that there is more than one people complain that they have to test their stuff more and wish to go back to one browser to rule them all. You don't like testing? How hard can it be to test on the top 3-4 browsers? Maybe it's not wasted dev time, it's called work? Maybe software industry isn't for you... Sidenote: Why so many snowflakes on HN? Too much entitlement or is it the easy money? In what job is it considered acceptable to not test on half the devices in the world?
If you think PG is a great writer and fascinating mind you absolutely need to expand your horizons.
I'd rather stay away from Linux than from my trusty nVidia card. Sorry but not sorry. The innovative stuff coming from nVidia can't be ignored (always one or more steps ahead of AMD). Linux can.
Re:Amazon to lay off 9,000 more workers after earlier cuts on Tuesday March 21, 2023 @06:34AM (#35244483)
Are you trolling or are you actually this delusional?
Re:Amazon to lay off 9,000 more workers after earlier cuts on Tuesday March 21, 2023 @06:28AM (#35244447)
Unions gave you 40 hour workweek. Market forces worked children 12 hours a day including weekends in unsafe conditions. You are blinded by ideology. I've seen it before with people from ex-soviet countries. They jump so far to the other side and believe unfettered capitalism is the answer that it's just sad to watch.
Re:Introducing react.dev on Sunday March 19, 2023 @01:06PM (#35221094)
The reason you think frontend is more complicated is because of historically terrible terrible decisions made. Frontend is made complex because of the initial idiots developing it.

I didn't make anything up. I just noticed that frontend devs were being looked down upon when talking to some devs and I investigated further. It seems that most frontend devs are just what is usually called "code monkeys" who just fling shit until it works. No real understanding of math, algorithms, architecture and general good engineering principles. Which is also why usually frontend code looks like garbage. I am sure there are exceptions but for the most part frontend stuff doesn't get the best and brightest people working on it. Because it's considered boring and uninteresting. Personally I don't care. Web dev in general seems to be complete and utter trash and I work on things that are on a completely different plane of complexity (as in if things go wrong people die). It's just funny that you still cling on to the idea that frontend is some sort of holy grail of engineering and absolute complexity.

Re:Introducing react.dev on Friday March 17, 2023 @03:37AM (#35194342)
Very rarely. Hmm, I don't think I wrote assembly in the last few years though. Why?
Re:Introducing react.dev on Friday March 17, 2023 @03:35AM (#35194333)
I didn't say I look down upon frontend devs. I said that because of the way frontend seems to be chasing trends a lot of people look down on you. Maybe I should have said "That is why you get looked down upon by a lot of people".

Why are you assuming I am a backend dev? In fact why do you even assume I do web dev? You do know that there are many more areas where programming is needed, right?

Re:Introducing react.dev on Thursday March 16, 2023 @07:14PM (#35190289)
No. It's not too complex. It's just boring. And you people keep reinventing the wheel and presenting old concepts as "revolutionary" or "innovative". That is why you get looked down upon.
Just because some businesses manage to become monopolies and thus make extreme profits from which they can afford to pay the devs 3x more doesn't actually mean they create 3x more value.

You are delusional.

I would like to have a way for HN to actually force people to make they age visible, just so we know if we are speaking to people <24 years of age.

Cloud-based software is server-based software. Cloud is just some damn servers that you don't own. There is no cLoUd. There are just servers.
Re:How many layers of UI inconsistencies are in Windows 11? on Thursday January 05, 2023 @10:33AM (#34261077)
Docker got popular because of lazy incompetent devs. Since they are the vast majority it got popular. Yes, a lot of times everybody is wrong. That shouldn't surprise you. Larry Ellison put it best: software industry is more fashion driven than the fashion industry.
Re:Airbnb removed my negative review on Thursday January 05, 2023 @10:13AM (#34260703)
shhhh... you are on pg's forum. 'Member when he was shilling for this new billion dollar unicorn that was airbnb and how it would revolutionize the hotel industry? Pepperidge Farm remembers....
Re:Nix on the Steam Deck on Sunday December 25, 2022 @09:57AM (#34127739)
It's fascinating behavior. I remember having an issue a while ago and describing it on a forum and the linux defenders literally told me that the issue doesn't exist and I am just making things up. They would simply ignore reality that didn't conform to their belief that linux is the holy grail and is beyond criticism. Psychologists would have field day with these people.
Re:As unions decline, inequality rises on Sunday December 18, 2022 @11:22AM (#34039185)
It does affect you though. Cause Bezos then lobbies that unions are evil and does everything under the sun to keep wages low. Including yours.

So why are education levels going down? Why is health so expensive?
Re:Programs are dead, and JavaScript has killed them on Sunday December 18, 2022 @09:38AM (#34038060)
I am familiar with ring 0. Familiar enough to understand how stupid it would be to put a browser there. You don't need that many syscalls if you know what you are doing. Obviously, JS guys don't since they argue that many syscalls are needed and it's impacting performance enough that they should move it to ring 0. Jesus H Christ ...
Re:A Linux Evening on Sunday December 18, 2022 @09:34AM (#34038008)
I use it everyday. It's beyond inferior. Terminal is still needed for a lot of things that should have a GUI. Gaming support still inferior. Applications that only exist for Windows and/or MacOS. Linux had it's chance on desktop. Especially during Windows 8 trash era. It blew it. It's game over.
Re:A Linux Evening on Friday December 16, 2022 @11:00AM (#34016044)
Shhh... don't tell that to the rabid fanbois. They will tear you apart. LINUX IS THE BEST GO LINUX GO!

Hopefully this will calm them down.

Re:A Linux Evening on Friday December 16, 2022 @10:58AM (#34016020)
I have. It's still inferior to Windows and it's trying to be a discount version of MacOS. And it's doing a bad job at it.

Do you even know what an OS is? How can you ask this question? Who will communicate with the hardware?
