This looks like a clickbait study. Waymo is cheaper 100% of the time for me. The two big data points I think they purposely glossed over are:

1. Tip – Uber and Lyft cost 20% more than the ride price.

2. Car quality – Sure, a Corolla on Lyft is cheaper than Waymo. But once you select something desirable the price goes up, a lot.

I loved the first and last page...

[last] "To protect this document, please restrict your fallen tears of joy to this box. Thank you!"

You can roll back to the old app and firmware. It does take awhile to do but it is listed as "Sonos S1" in the app store.

Because it is older it has problems with dark mode/light mode. But it is as fast and reliable as ever.

In the Bay Area there is Alameda Island, which didn't start as an island either...

It's only barely one today.

This does look really good. Do you mind if I ask which one you used? Thanks!

The Alan Dye era at Apple has been the worst for me. Basic UX concepts like Fitts Law are ignored for the sake of "simplification". Finder notifications with tiny click targets that only appear on hover are something that wouldn't have stayed around for multiple OS revisions. Discoverability is lacking everywhere.

Having close buttons on the left side and the right side of tabs depending on state (like the number of tabs in Safari) is something that following the Human Interface Guidelines wouldn't have allowed.

I love innovation and trying new things – but the styling improvements shouldn't ignore the basics. There will always be new users who need to see what is possible in order to navigate.

This is why I like Monoprice, they have a limited selection of high-quality products at reasonable prices.

I just wish they would make an AV receiver – that seems like a space where they could bring the price down but still have good room correction and Atmos. The Monolith is a good start, but something for the average consumer is what I'm thinking of.

In California that is the law. Cars cannot pass a bike if they will be less than 3 feet from the bike.

It seems odd to not mention how Kanye basically launched a MVP of Life of Pablo and kept iterating on it…

I think it’s a good thing to stop thinking of art as immutable and more of a living thing.

Thanks! Sorry I had missed that.

That is why I was hoping the article would have the conversion rate of the website before and after the redesign.
Congrats on the launch Adam! I noticed the company name at the bottom of the page, what does Hinhilla mean?
Re:The next best thing to OLED is getting cheaper on Monday February 21, 2022 @06:38PM (#30422215)
I had a hard time with that article because it kept swinging between two very different display technologies. OLED and Mini LED are not related and the monitor they are talking about is Mini LED, so why even talk about OLED?
We've gotten them not just for CCPA but also GDPR.
I assume you get exhausted after doing that all day. Just know that I appreciate you doing it!
I liken Michael in question-mode to being on train tracks with an engine bearing down on you. He will follow a line of reasoning with deep questions rapid fire. This puts you off guard and makes you lower your defenses – that way he gets to the shared understanding faster.

The important thing for the entrepreneur to do afterwards is to remember your responses and try to understand what he was driving at. There is a lot of emotion in the moment, but when you look back you find the wisdom.

For reference we were lucky enough to get him and Dalton as our YC advisors.

I haven't been able to see if the DAC that powers the headphone port supports 24-bit/192 kHz yet. Being able to listen to Lossless audio without a USB DAC would be nice.

It seems possible that Apple would add that since it's a feature of Apple Music Lossless.

Re: on Tuesday October 05, 2021 @04:19PM (#28765052)
I think that is exactly right. Tim Cook is the most amazing supply chain and operational leader – but he is not a product person. He doesn't have the knack for diving in and really refining how things work.

Without that centralized leadership Apple will still have components that excel, like processors, but the fundamental user experience will keep degrading.

Re: on Tuesday October 05, 2021 @02:36PM (#28763644)
Definitely, I don’t see a way you could elevate someone to the level Steve was at. I think the plan was to have Jony Ive be the final word on design person.

But with iOS 7 Ives showed he didn’t get software and the “design is how it works” concept.

Re: on Tuesday October 05, 2021 @02:31PM (#28763560)
Agreed. Even a little thing like Safari having the close button on the wrong side in iOS 15 would have gotten someone fired.

Multitasking in iPadOS is also a good example of non-Mac software being near unusable.

Re: on Tuesday October 05, 2021 @02:04PM (#28763158)
I think that Apple suffers from not having that person at the top with taste who was willing to say “this is shit”.

The overall software quality has dropped markedly at Apple and the hardware more uneven since he left.

There were misses under Steve like the Cube where there wasn’t a market. But the product was great. Now there is a market but the product is middling like the Watch. Yes the watch was started when he was still there but it has stagnated.

Thanks for the clarification! For the Cruise rides will they be booked through services like Lyft or the Cruise Anywhere app?

As you scroll down the page the article starts filling your browser history. If you scroll all the way down there will be at least 12 items in your history with variations of the page title. It appears to have something to do with how they populate the content below the article.
Re:Ask HN: Do you still miss your RIM BlackBerry? on Monday September 13, 2021 @11:55PM (#28520023)
I agree. I had to provide tech support for Blackberry users before the iPhone. I personally was a Danger Hiptop user which I found to be much better.

The primary interaction on the Blackberry was the scrollwheel on the side and every action felt like scrolling through contextual menus endlessly.

You are absolutely correct – Splitwise is great. I was thinking about the failed startups that did the splitting before the trip and then pay the vendors directly. Splitwise makes the process of getting reimbursed much better.

Also benevolent is the right prefix for dictator in this case. This person's reputation is on the line and they are working hard to make sure their friends/family have a great vacation.
