$500 million in a year for 48 top scholars, huh...
Re:Most cited Xkcd comics on Hacker News on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @03:19PM (#49351159)
It's because the individuals who write those laws are literally trying to shove neo-Nazi policies into EU practice. I wonder how many people would make policies like this if they and their families were publicly identified and criticized as neo-Nazi elements in society.

You think someone will write Nazi-promoting AI policy like this when society is encouraged to look at their families as examples of neo-Nazi corruption? When their wives' and kids' friends spurn them while their families engage in obvious criminal activity to harm world productivity?

Critics need to be more precise.

Traveling salesman solution within 2N for optimal solution length N is trivially solvable for K^2log(K) for K places. Just make the minimal spanning tree and do a loop of it.

A lot of professors don't teach this, and it's recklessly ignorant if not worse.

Then the gem from Microsoft Research, "Network Embedding as Matrix Factorization: Unifying DeepWalk, LINE, PTE, and node2vec"

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/publication/network...

The studies that show this are generally aggressively biased against people who do physical labor for subsistence and are worn out or exhausted to the point of depression.

If studies showed that African women who walk miles and miles collecting water somehow are less depressed than women with local water, I'll be more sold that exercise does something special..

Not for me. They must be rolling it up gradually. It'll lead to a precipitous drop in usage diversity. I'd encourage a shareholder lawsuit over it. Reddit never advertise an account-capture strategy, and the fact they're doing this points to critical structural organizational shortcomings.

They had subpar software and pretty terrible screens. I think some builds had spyware too sending data to the Chinese
Re:Microsoft is laying off 4,800 employees on Monday July 06, 2026 @11:05AM (#48805666)
Easy on the misinformation.

Microsoft traditionally cuts 6% of workforce per year for performance reasons.

The fact that this 6% is involved with AI doesn't change the underlying fact that this is still classic Microsoft performance management.

New roundup is a lot more toxic than glyphosate. It's absurd they forced glyphosate out of the market.

I seriously suspect that glyphosate's safety is so obvious at a population level compared to what's in roundup now, folks in power aligned who didn't want the market for other herbicides to get restricted.

They used kite-sails with rollers, according to Caltech
Re:The SAT Was Necessary After All on Tuesday June 09, 2026 @07:25PM (#48469204)
This is because of hardcore racism against people who scored well on SATs and submitted evidence of proficiency.
This is shady. Copyrighters absolutely not get to control use of their copyrighted material when people mentally, sonically, or physically reproduce it for personal use.

It's absurd to say "you can't record this book to a friend or robot".

Nobody seems to actually reproduce the copyrighted materials.

High-dimensional eigendecompositions which underpin AI similarity are some of the most literally derivative materials of texts that you can imagine.

NetMF/NetSMF is a big part..
Does this mean the open-ended license was falsely marketed because the lifetime was limited by a digital suite?

Looks like class action material.

Re:GitHub and the crime against software on Tuesday June 02, 2026 @11:02AM (#48371207)
This is the pain of legacy GitHub technical debt in their core website before moving to Microsoft.

They need to invest in properly setting up their server-side text assets for response caching. Mix less unchanging and changing content together.

Re:Why do anxious people lean left?" on Monday May 25, 2026 @06:43PM (#48272764)
anxiety diagnostics don't measure broad enough anxiety lol
How do you get through the paywall?
Yeah, this title is counterfactual
Re:What British people mean when they say 'sorry' on Thursday May 07, 2026 @02:01PM (#48052630)
The fundamental difference between deteriorating British culture and successful American culture: British feel "indignity of open confrontation". Honestly shocking. The indignity in America is usually in NOT eventually openly confronting wrongdoers.

It's embarrassing and cringe-inducing to read that even one person--much less an entire culture -- feels more dignity getting beaten down and bullied by strangers or peers than confronting them openly or berating them publicl.

5. Bored because the lesson is over their heads, and they need to be distracted.
Re:Why are doctors so unwilling to run tests? on Wednesday April 29, 2026 @04:45PM (#47954347)
Most doctors haven't been taken to small claims court enough for wildly misleading, damaging decisions based on failed math or other educational basics.

Re:Notes from the SF Peptide Scene on Monday April 20, 2026 @06:01PM (#47841572)
Nobody in the SF AI scene seems to want to talk about vector processing optimization and skiplist neuromorphism. So lonely.

This is a solution that people fixed 25 years ago with detailedReturnObjectNames.
