Re:Apple introduces the new 14‑inch MacBook Pro with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @05:18PM (#50265956)
I always max out whenever I upgrade my MacBook Pro.

Last time, in 2024, it cost me $6K

Today, it’s $10K

“And what doeth the saint in the forest?” asked Zarathustra.

The saint answered: “I make hymns and sing them; and in making hymns I laugh and weep and mumble: thus do I praise Claude.”

When Zarathustra was alone, however, he said to his heart: “Could it be possible! This old saint in the forest hath not yet heard of it, that Claude is dead!”

I mean, I understand you’re using your brain to do this analysis. But somehow, the valuation will grow and investors will make money.
The lee… of the stone.

Tap the right side of screen to advance to next slide.
This is a conundrum I hadn’t seen anyone predict. We will reach a time when machines push math and physics farther than a human mind ever could. But we won’t be able to know if it is correct for that same reason!

The number of times I've read about celebrities and random people in deep addiction (or eventual death), whose starting point was just pain relief from a run of the mill injury. Makes me wonder what idiocy has overtaken these doctors. "Here, take these so you don't have to suffer a sore back for the two next weeks. And btw, you may become deeply addicted and it might cost you your life. Good luck!"

Re:Show HN: Qwen3-4B with the AI writing tics trained out on Monday October 19, 2026 @01:14PM (#50155046)
The model was the setup. The training was the vindication.

^^ this is my new most-hated tic. I see it everywhere now.

"My friends in cancer research are terrified they'll wake up one morning to find out that an AI cured cancer."

But more seriously, this was an inevitability for math, no? The brain has an upper limit on how many concepts it can recall, recombine, and synthesize. We're all finding out now what happens when every single concept in math can be perfectly held in memory.

The debt was the accusation. The frustration was the catalyst.

Bidets without tissue paper only works for people with very super fiber intake or mega-absorptive intestines. Otherwise, no amount of hot streaming water will wash you completely.

All the tools are there, and lots of people are doing it already. Literally nothing is stopping anyone from "bringing that back".

They really should have paused the video mid-flip for a quick voiceover.

Re:Redesigning Source Control at Anthropic on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @03:34AM (#50083797)
For the last year I keep reading from people and companies who say things like this, “I gave it one prompt, walked away for a while, and came back to something perfect and amazing.”

Meanwhile I’m here burning company tokens on top-tier models, and I still have to course-correct or problem-solve with my agents every 10 minutes…

English language needs a word to say “I don’t think you’re lying, but I also don’t believe you.”

I do think I understand Trump pretty well. Tell me more about what you see the real angle is here. I'm genuinely curious.
Naming it is taking credit for it. “No one’s done as much for tech as me!”

Forcing others to use it is just par for the course with this administration

Because literally one person came up with that term, just to put their own stamp on it.
If he stands up to Trump, Trump declares Microsoft a national security threat and decimates the company. That’s what this is about.
His own net worth isn’t the point.

Bend the knee or Trump will destroy your company. And every Republican in Congress is cool with that.

"Slow China down because our investment is at risk" is a perfectly reasonable position for a US company, and I don't mean that in any negative way.
Re:Orkut.com on Thursday October 08, 2026 @06:05PM (#50013056)
Might’ve fared better if they didn’t alienate the entire company who could have helped them pre-launch, or come in to help after the release flopped.
This is not a case where she was running to the scientific society saying “double helix!” and they told her to get lost. She was sitting on evidence. We’ll never know how long it would have taken her to figure out its meaning, but we know Watson was first to recognize it out loud.

If any of you have time, I’ll tell you how I invented Twitter, Reddit, and AI assistants.

Re:What's Earth's dominant species by mass? on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @05:17AM (#49990223)
Earth’s dominant species, by mass, was discovered to be yo momma.
Literally nothing in parent comment would suggest that, no.
There is still no conclusive explanation. You can find reputable sources for either theory.
Well, Americans were essentially prohibited from discussing this (most obvious) possibility because of fears that doing so would incite racist feelings towards Chinese people.

Then it was made worse by Trump's insistence on calling it the Chinavirus (just to make it "not my fault!") and predictably then the anti-Trump left reacted by censoring any connection between the lab and the outbreak.

Objection: relevance.
