That’s simply not true. I use S3 (well GCS mostly) for data that I wouldn’t be upset if it’s lost. And I pay the zonal discount for it.

There’s definitely going to be a shift over time. But it’s clearly not here just yet. So why preemptively lay off anyone? Isn’t that inefficient?

The real unit cost is worker development cost. Like any other tech company, this cost gets muddied in the platform/framework development costs versus more product focused costs.

I can see that working today in dentistry more so than general practice. I’ve got medication that insurance has dictated that I need to refill a weekly med monthly and it arrives precisely the week I need to take it. I need to time my vacations around this med now.
I get that I’m ranting against healthcare and not doctors, but I’d run far from any doctor that’s paper only these days.

Olric v0.4.x tree is going to receive bug fixes and security updates forever, but I would recommend considering an upgrade to the new version.
Seems like a tall order to promise updates “forever”, particularly for a v0 release.

Advice? Don’t push yourself as far as possible. You’re young, talented, and capable of kicking ass. Spread that ass kicking out over your lifetime and make sure you don’t burn out early.
Assuming you’re on the west coast, it’s 10 PM. Take a break and relax.

It was surprisingly useful for some high performance computing niches. It was in a weird time. FPGAs were available but weren’t as performant as they are today. GPUs were around but not nearly as powerful or flexible given some workloads.
Re:The Worst CPUs Ever Made (2021)

In the early years, the SPUs were not all functional due to the fabbing process. The ones that had all 8 functional ended up in servers, and the ones with about 6 ended up in PS3s. This still happens all the time with clock speeds, and core counts on modern processors today. I’m sure the fabrication process improved over time, but they disabled the 2 cores to maintain backwards compatibility.
Unrelated: Every time I’m reminded about Cell I’m reminded of the OtherOS fiasco. I purchased a PS3 for the processor solely and I was very upset when I only got a $2 check for it. I never cashed it.

Re:The database ruins all good ideas

Sure there’s a lot of variables here. If you’re a Windows shop I would not expect a push for docker since it is Linux based. As far as multi-tenant logical databases, that is also highly dependent on workload and failure domains (and significant cost if you’re talking Oracle).
Re:The database ruins all good ideas
on Saturday July 17, 2021 @04:59PM (#27868828)
A docker image is simply packaging. There’s a small, almost always negligible, performance hit. But the value comes in being able to ship a consistent application and configuration pairing. This becomes really valuable when shipping multiple databases for multiple services.
