Re:A collection of useful .htaccess snippets on Monday February 09, 2015 @03:24PM (#9023450)
There is some stuff listed at http://wiki.nginx.org/Configuration but it's more laid out in full examples rather than this code block does X
Re:DigitalOcean now supports FreeBSD on Wednesday January 14, 2015 @04:58PM (#8889413)
Linode doesn't (last i checked anyway) officially support FreeBSD but people were doing it years ago in the irc channel when I used to hang out there
Re:Announcing the FastMail Calendar on Monday June 23, 2014 @11:27AM (#7932443)
I'm using fastmail and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.onegravity... on push notifications, no issues at all. Very happy with it

Linode packages have more cpu available and their drive speed is actually pretty good for being non SSD as well. As I'm sure people will point out, neither one of them has a perfect reputation lately, but I've used both for various purposes, just nothing mission critical on DO, just basic quick stuff that doesn't need security or much cpu
Re:Amazon Prime To Cost $99 A Year on Thursday March 13, 2014 @10:36AM (#7392035)
$79 in Canada without any streaming :(
Re:Inside the Billion-Dollar Hacker Club on Sunday March 02, 2014 @07:22PM (#7331366)
I believe he's MinorThreat aka Chris Lamprecht, which means his sentence wasn't for his computer related crimes oddly enough.
Is this serious or supposed to be satire or something? Cause it reads like something a deranged person would write to me... Making comments about how Google employees automatically bring police, "All of Google's employees should be prevented from getting to work", etc. Yeah they do bring police.. to deal with nutjobs that decide to randomly show up at their houses and stop them from working, stop a bus in the middle of the street and cause a disruption, etc.
Re:Metasploit website hijacked via fax on Saturday October 12, 2013 @04:44PM (#6540219)
Bit of trivia I didn't see noted: Web.com is the parent company of both NetSol and Register.com
Problem is, that is assuming that forwarding work email doesn't breach company policy in some way which can open up even more issues :)
Re:Eighteen and Abandoned on Tuesday April 16, 2013 @04:17AM (#5556920)
I use a couple different emails for different purposes myself. A couple different names I use online for most things and my first initial last name for more professional stuff (ie: resumes, clients, etc)
Re:Security incident update on Tuesday April 16, 2013 @04:15AM (#5556912)
With the amount of customers Linode has, I'm quite ready to chalk that up to people freaking out because they use their CC on Linode and not realizing they also use it on 3 dozen other things that might be the cause
Re:Security incident update on Tuesday April 16, 2013 @04:14AM (#5556908)
It seems HTP went after nmap.org machines, so I'm guessing that woudl be the directed customer they picked?
Re:Linode hacked, CCs and passwords leaked on Monday April 15, 2013 @05:30PM (#5554530)
One thing to note is that the irc channel if that is what you mean by chat, is mostly populated by non linode staff. And many of us there tend to be sarcastic as we idle there and chat about all sorts of stuff while we are bored at work or whatever. Unless it's someone with ops, you aren't getting an official reply and even then for something official they usually refer to ticket system.
Re:Eighteen and Abandoned on Saturday April 13, 2013 @10:06PM (#5545547)
I have the same issue with my gmail, also first initial & last name. It's amazing to me how many people don't know their own email address
Re:180TB of Good Vibrations – Storage Pod 3.0 on Wednesday February 20, 2013 @03:29PM (#5253118)
I've done it myself for my home servers. Tends to get strange looks, I can only imagine what buying in the scale BackBlaze did caused for reactions :p
Re:The new .com for Geeks on Thursday February 14, 2013 @12:51AM (#5217965)
Except both of those tlds are a lot more expensive than a .com and as the article notes, do NOT register with the general public. So if you have the money to spend on a vanity domain that you don't need to have "regular" people remember, it is an option.
Re:Sublime Text 3 Beta on Tuesday January 29, 2013 @12:38AM (#5132544)
I'm pretty sure you are right, I don't remember it being $11 because I could have afforded that but $50 was harder to do at the time I was looking into it
Re:Belkin Buys Linksys from Cisco on Friday January 25, 2013 @01:51PM (#5116985)
I haven't personally used Mikrotik products, but I know a few people who have and they really like them. It's on my list of things to buy and try out when I have time & money
Re:An open source Linux client for Google Drive on Thursday January 17, 2013 @11:50PM (#5077183)
Ah ok. I looked at it and noticed it didn't sync when changes were done. Incron should work in theory, but I haven't tried it. The lack of a headless gdrive client for linux & the fact that I still use windows on a few systems is why I still use dropbox. Was just curious how well it worked in practice
Re:An open source Linux client for Google Drive on Thursday January 17, 2013 @05:15PM (#5075576)
I'm guessing that you only use it for occasional syncing then? Or do you use something like incron to look for changes then run grive, giving it more of an automatic sync?
