What about Sapient?
Thanks a lot for taking the time to respond. This is how I interpreted the situation as well.

What complicates matters is that the product name is a registered trademark, and the holding company also has patented the tool. I raised these concerns with my management but they still want to proceed, so I saved well the written confirmation. We'll be using the tool internally, no plans to sell it.

Ask HN: Can I strip out the EULA from an open source project to use it?

There's an open source project on Github licensed under Apache 2.0.Its EULA states that corporations must purchase a license to use it.When executing the compiled binary of the app, the user is prompted to accept the EULA.Disregarding the obvious moral implications of this (corp asked me to do this, I have no choice, unless it's not legal of course) - is it technically legal to fork the repo,...

I have been thinking about this the other day, and I think buyouts and mergers should be illegal.

Banning international sales is a politically damaging move because it would crash the market value of existing housing, affecting those residents who own one (or more), particularly if they're on a mortgage. It also reduces the tax income from properties and propert sales. Banks probably wouldn't be too happy either that the security on the loans no longer cover the outstanding balance.

Things will probably shift when the proportion of renters significantly outnumber the home owners.

I'm still using winamp to this day, mostly for listening dowoaded YouTube playlists during work, it's brilliant.

Re:Ask HN: What is your Git commit/push flow? on Thursday March 17, 2022 @06:12PM (#30716428)
We just squash the commits in Gitlab at a Merge, so the sequential commits won't matter.

Heat pumps are rather inefficient according to this video [1]. Are you not bothered by all the noise it generates? Why not just use electric heater instead of a heat pump?

Re:Winamp source code leak on Monday November 29, 2021 @09:25PM (#29388133)
Winamp has a media library feature, it can keep track of what you're listening to and builds playlists of your most listened and top rated tracks. Quite handy.
Re:Winamp source code leak on Monday November 29, 2021 @09:23PM (#29388103)
I'm using Winamp on my Surface Pro 6, switched from foobar2000 for the Media Library feature. (I've been also using Winamp in my teens starting with the first versions up until last ones, then stopped listening to local music files).

It's an amazing low resource player. The YouTube playlists I'm listening to in Firefox consume 1.6GB of RAM and significant CPU, the downloaded opus files with Winamp take up a few megs of RAM (and bunch of disk space on my SD card).

I tried WACUP but it doesn't work well for me. Very complicated UI, too many settings, it also corrupted my real Winamp library.

Regarding the leak - perhaps the founders aren't happy with the direction of the app in the upcoming release (we can notice the ugly website update) so they may have leaked the code. Great news.
