I’m unclear why this isn’t just a PR template with a checkbox

Google Maps and most other maps will happily hide streets depending on your zoom level
OG = OpenGraph (like ‘og:image’)

Re:Ask HN: What are you working on (August 2024)? on Sunday August 25, 2024 @07:33AM (#41346511)
I'm working on planning next year's Square Foot Garden and building some tools to help me figure out staggering and succession planting--trying to be self-sufficient this year. I'm also working on a cookbook that focuses on "composable" meals and minimizing kitchen waste.
Microsoft admin isn’t my day job, but I dealt with this exact thing the other day—the toggles for Microsoft Defender MFA are spread across Entra ID policies, Registration Campaigns, per-user settings, and more Microsoft subdomains I’d never heard of. After two hours the best I could do was add a Skip button to the MFA prompt when our users sign in.
Re:Open source tools to query OpenStreetMap on Sunday August 11, 2024 @03:39AM (#41214573)
Makes perfect sense. Would it be frowned upon to contribute these POIs using automated scrapers? Or does OSM prefer hand-collected, seen-it-in-person data?
Re:Open source tools to query OpenStreetMap on Saturday August 10, 2024 @10:40AM (#41209855)
Has anyone else run into big gaps in OSM data? I’ve tried to cobble together a store locator with Overpass Turbo, and even though the queries look correct I’ll still get fewer results compared to Google Maps. Sephora and Walmart locations in the US, for example.
Re:Ask HN: Vision Pro owners, are you still using it? on Thursday July 04, 2024 @10:44AM (#40875358)
If you’re mirroring your Mac, the computer’s mouse/keyboard/trackpad work across both the virtual screen and Vision OS’s interface. You can also pair Bluetooth peripherals directly to the headset.
Re:Ask HN: Vision Pro owners, are you still using it? on Thursday July 04, 2024 @12:21AM (#40872306)
I’m still using Vision Pro for about 10-15 hours each week, but the bulk of that is spent mirroring my Mac or having focused writing time using the Obsidian iPad app—there really aren’t apps that take full advantage of the platform yet (and I don’t watch a lot of movies). Still, it’s been the best way to stay productive away from my desk. The launch was a bit rocky with bugs and missing features, but the recent updates to mirroring and keyboard/mouse support are starting to hint that Apple is focusing in on productivity as a first-class use case. I’m okay paying the premium knowing that this platform has the potential to keep heading in this direction. It feels like the hardware has a decent amount of headroom.
As you're typing in the search term, you're also given a "Name contains <term>" option in the dropdown if you're strictly searching by filename
That's disappointing to see, and posted within 10 minutes no less.
This might be my own personal experience, but one effect of my colorblindness is that I place far less emphasis on color-coding in the real world--I'll subconciously ignore things like status indicators. When I think of alternative solutions here, I tend to reach for variables like font weight instead.
Any interest in working together on a new extension?
The fine was $615 thousand, not $615 million. Although I might agree with your original statement too.

Re:Tell HN: GitHub Actions Down / Degraded on Thursday March 02, 2023 @08:38PM (#35004713)
We subscribe to GitHub’s RSS feed in one of our vendor notifications channels, and it’s been super noisy in the last few months:

https://www.githubstatus.com/history

On one hand GitHub seems a little more proactive than most when it comes to raising incidents and updating status pages, but we’re getting a little too used to pausing our deploys in the middle of the day.

Do you have a public example of a link-book repo?

Re:Ask HN: In depth sites for various industry's news? on Thursday December 22, 2022 @10:16AM (#34094108)
The Aviation Herald for great coverage on commercial aviation news and incidents.

Their incident breakdowns are a lesson in clear technical communication—I highly recommend checking them out even if you’re not into aviation.

Ask HN: Did AWS break your Managed Airflow environments last night?

All of our schedulers on Amazon MWAA (managed Airflow) failed to start this morning because of an Airflow version mismatch. The schedulers are trying to start on Airflow version 2.5.0 while 2.2.2 is the configured (and latest-supported [1]) version for the service. Is anyone else experiencing this?1. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/mwaa/latest/userguide/airflow-versions.html#airflow-versions-official

“Let structure emerge” is my rule of thumb any time I pitch Obsidian.
Cobalt isn't a great fit for general-purpose web browsing because it only supports a subset of HTML--lots of websites would appear broken. It's really meant for webapps you've designed with Cobalt in mind.

Check out the supported features:

Re:Ask HN: Recent uptick in spam emails and text messages? on Sunday October 23, 2022 @11:16PM (#33312628)
On iOS I’ve been using Bouncer to filter out SMS and iMessage spam using regexes. It’s been surprisingly effective to filter out messages that contain non-https URLs:
