If you live in Germany and think that the other politicians are so bad, that nazis are your only option, you have been lied to.
People saying "This is crazy and emotional" - you don't realize how bizare your country has become: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/19/trump-musk-f...

In short: French scientist denied access to the US based on the contents on his phone (critical messages).

Because you are.
Yeah, because "reasonable" is what you find with Trump. Stop trying to apologise for that Orange retard and his horde of shameless minions.
Trump won because he has lied and manipulated a population of idiots. They have managed to create a situation where they can say whatever they want and still get support.

That much is clear to everyone outside of the US. And we don't want any more of your culture over here thank you very much.

No one is debating whether or not increasing efficiency or reducing government is a good or bad thing. It is the way it's being done we take issue with. It's as close to 1930's Germany as you can imagine.

Great. Lets just have "someone" do "something" while they "might" get paid by "someone".

Sounds like the ideal government...

Enlighten us, oh enlightened one!

I wish to be free of my chains.

Wait. So with a straight face, you're telling me that Musk - a non-elected billinaire - firing people who are investigating his companies, are totally fine?

Read newspapers. Read about Philisophy and society. Look up data on national/local trends (national/local government usually have databasen). Educate yourself.

Lord knows the world need more of that in the coming years.

How will they pay the bills when the 1%-hoarders are keeping all the profits for themselves, and now that the Oligarchy is in full reign in the US, taxes and "big bad socialism" is out of the question?

Do you think Tiktok reflect reality?

Then we need to ban social media altogether...

Re:Meta scrapped factcheckers because systems were 'too complex' on Wednesday January 08, 2025 @06:51AM (#42633240)
Meta and factchecking - everyone outside US would see this as an impossible combination.

Meta is a business, and only does what benefits the business. That is why no one should rely on fact-checking done by Meta.

Not that facts matter much anymore anyway...

That's why you should probably never expect "perfect" from the finished product but rather a "iteration x" instead.

The articles adresses scope creep. You were asked for a drawing, but ended up with a cartoon "because they process just took me down that road". The deadline is helpful is limiting what the first/second/x'th iteration can be expected to do.

Re:We all took the DVD boom era for granted on Wednesday December 11, 2024 @05:15AM (#42386446)
I have reverted back to owning movie-media again.

I like watching movies, and thus, I have watched a lot. When I try to find a movie to watch on HBO/Netflix (I'm from Scandinavia - not the same selection as in the US), I have a hard time finding something to watch. A lot of newer movies doesn't cater to my taste.

On the other hand, I can find a lot of classics from the 80s/90s/00s and even 10s in thriftstores for as little as 1-3$. I then get to keep the movies, that I often end up rewatching, and I get the added features mentioned in the article.

I'm not to nostalgic about the cases, which I often just dump (I have considered keeping the fact-sheets though, just not the plastic casing).

I'll soon cancel my remaining subscriptions, and only purchase them a month at a time when something I truly want to watch arrives...

You're wrong. Factually wrong. Plenty of smaller companies deliver parts and services to the European car industry. Here in Denmark, Danfoss had to fire 200 people because of Volkswagens decline.

Buying a chinese car means that you directly support the chinese regime, and that you directly undermine a "local" European competitor.

But if you're fine with that, and you just want the "biggest car for the least amount of money", you do you.

That fits well with their general line of politics then.
Are people willing to gamble on long-term economic growth and prosperity (locally) by buying a chinese car for the individual, personal savings/value?

I can't help but feel this is a very shortsighted strategy for buyers. The world is pretty unstable at the moment, and throwing a huge industry in the hands of China for the sake of getting a cheaper/bigger ("I want MORE for LESS") car, seems awfully risky.

It also seems to be in direct contradiction with the whole nationalist agenda that is sweeping across the west these days...

Morally, caring is the only option.

To many people don't value values or morals, and only prioritize their own experiences. I find it hard to maintain relationships with people who only talk about their career, business and consumption, as it is hard to have any kind of discussion about "we COULD, but SHOULD we" in regards to purchasing the latest car, iphone, a new house etc.

Re:Six Things I Know for Sure About Marketing to Engineers on Monday September 02, 2024 @09:45AM (#41425328)
It seems that your argument is, that some marketing is somewhat malicious - and I agree.

But to say that all marketing is ill-intended and manipulative seems way to extreme.

"Providing good documentation" could be considered a marketing move, if that was what would set a product apart, and make it interesting to buyers.

Making bad ad-copy and intrusive advertising in general is not something I find very interesting personally. That doesn't mean, that it doesn't work, or isn't morally wrong (you mention smoking).

Selling and promoting your product is necessary for most companies. And it can be done in a tasteful, informative and non-intrusive manner.

Re:Six Things I Know for Sure About Marketing to Engineers on Friday August 30, 2024 @09:12AM (#41400364)
Anyone who tries to manipulate anyone in any matter is a fool.

Sales is necessary to every organisation however. There is no "built it and they will come".

Marketing in my mind should be about providing easy access to the right information so that human beings can make informed decisions. Sometimes you have to "push" that information or your message to the people you want to reach. Not everyone will magically find your wisdom.

What are you doing America?

These people are absolutely batshit insane... Fix your education system please.

To see people like Musk, Thiel, Andreessen and similar types openly back Trump JUST BECAUSE OF BUSINESS is going to be your downfall - and probably a lot of us Europeans as well.

I guess this is the explanation: https://www.apmresearchlab.org/10x-adult-literacy

Social media.

What's the use of "reading" anymore? It's not like it's hard for us outsiders to spot why your general political and social environment in the US is going haywire.

For most people, I think it comes down to habits/practical stuff/availability.

Everyone most certainly COULD do it, but don't underestimate how our bodies and brains react to different foods/diets etc.

We had ChatGPT look at 200.000 products, and make a navigation structure in 3 tiers based on the attributes of each product. The validation took 2% of the time it would have taken to manually create the hierarchy ourselves.

I think that even the simple LLM's are very well suited for classification-tasks, where very little prompting is needed.

Ask HN: How do I become an asset to my developers?

I'm working for an it-consultancy, and I've sort of gotten myself into a project manager/consultant role, where my job is to "own the backlog/sprint" as well as managing clients and their expectations.I'm not an engineer/developer/programmer, although I have taken a few courses in actual programming during my time at University.I realize there's a lot of "hate" towards non-technical it-project...

Producing it is not the hard part.

Researching it is... And you are not paid for your research "up front". It's added to the cost afterwards.
