Guess it's a good place to show off my generative art library: https://github.com/thekakkun/kanoko

I use it to generate a new wallpaper every time my computer is booted.

Nice!

Here's my version of a kindle dashboard I set up several months ago (https://github.com/thekakkun/kiiin). I use it to show local weather data and music data from my media server.

As for the "color bleed" (I assume it's ghosting) you mention, periodically using `eips -f` when drawing the image to force a full screen redraw should help.

I'm really looking forward to that. It's something I tried to tackle but unfortunately had to give up on.

Also, there are some font size inconsistencies in the main body that should be looked into.

Hi, I'm a software developer and UX researcher with five years of experience at a digital agency. Passionate about solving engineering problems and writing clean, maintainable code. I'm looking for a role that will allow me to work within a cross-functional team and be involved throughout the product lifecycle.

Recently, I've created a rust library for geometric constraint solving (https://github.com/thekakkun/rust_slvs), with future plans to use it to create a parametric vector editor powered by Tauri.

I guess measure where the whales are, and hope that the flexibility of the thing you're using to re-create the line is close enough to what was used when the curve was initially created.

The order's different (the curve defining the points, as opposed to points defining the curve), but it might look like what Apple provides in their CAD files for accessory makers. Take a look at p. 362 for an example: https://developer.apple.com/accessories/Accessory-Design-Gui...

Re:Japanese vegetable cutting techniques (2021) on Saturday August 13, 2022 @02:44PM (#32452600)
In Japan, I've known the term "Kokotto" to refer a ramekin vessel. Yeah, it's also a kind of french dish, though I don't think it's too commonly known in Japan.

As for the cut, I'd hardly call it a Japanese cutting technique.

For me, it was always a pancake wrapped around a breakfast sausage.

Took me about 20 years to learn that it wasn't the most common definition. It was just something served by the breakfast place my parents took me when I was little.

I set the following within about:config. It's killed a lot of annoying auto play videos for me.

- media.autoplay.default = 5

- media.autoplay.blocking_policy = 2

Re:Lets Get Arrested (2019) on Monday February 14, 2022 @02:22PM (#30336912)
The two adults that were arrested were not prosecuted. However, it seems like the police's stance was, "a crime was committed, but we decided to not prosecute based on the context, consequences of the crime, etc.", rather than, "there was no crime committed"

There's more info from the law firm (in Japanese), but I really only know Japanese, not legalese. https://www.yokohama-park-law.com/news/20190529.html

Re:What they don’t tell you when you translate your app on Thursday September 09, 2021 @04:47PM (#28474463)
Yeah, it's annoying, especially since I've told Google explicitly the languages I know. I do suppose that a lot of people haven't set their languages, and the automatic detection works well enough, most of the time.
Re:What they don’t tell you when you translate your app on Thursday September 09, 2021 @12:35PM (#28471574)
I've had issues with Google's localization choices for a long time. I wonder if anyone else has had this issue with other language combinations.

I'm a bilingual Japanese/English speaker. Searching Google's search languages to English and Japanese causes the following:

- Random Japanese words show up in things such as Google Maps, even though my display language is set to English.

- Japanese results will be prioritized over English ones. For example, If I search for "the beatles", it will show the Japanese Wikipedia page as the top result before the English version. For some sites (like Discogs) only the Japanese version of the site will show up.

If just set English as my search language, searching in Japanese can bring up results that are entirely in Chinese, even though I've set my preferred languages as English and Japanese (in that order).

Had no idea that the creator of Hatetris was also the author for There Is No Antimemetics Division. http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/antimemetics-division-hub
I don't think it's accurate to call salmon a "garbage fish" (though I've known salmon sushi all my life). It's been the classic protein of choice for traditional Japanese breakfasts (akin to having eggs for breakfast in the West) and a very common rice ball filling.
Re:Analyzing the Design of Unusual Japanese Butter Tableware on Saturday October 17, 2020 @09:49PM (#24814970)
I've always enjoyed stuff by Rain Noe (the author of this article). I believe he has lived in Japan previously, and seems to have a more realistic viewpoint of Japan's pros and cons.
Yeah, it turns out the link I posted is from one of the people behind the discovery/application of the glitch, so it really seems to be the logical next step if you know what you're doing.

And agreed on speedrunners! It's not something I could ever do myself, but it's one of my favorite aspects of gaming.
