Re:I’m Thinking. Please. Be Quiet. on Monday August 26, 2013 @05:21AM (#6275956)
I tend to think better with low level background noise. Or I'll do a completely different task whilst my brain is chewing on something in the background. I find total silence distracting.
Many places will ask for a graduate with excellent communication skills. Some places won't take you if you don't have a degree, whatever subject it is in. They may not ask for the specific subject on the bit of paper, but the transferable skills gained whilst studying e.g.: Critical thinking, researching, communication skills, the ability to collate a lot of evidence in a more succinct manner.
Being able to communicate information is often as important as knowing the information in the first place. Otherwise the knowledge would die out with the person who discovered it.

A civilisation dies if it has no culture, nothing is created. We'd become Borg-esque.

Re:India’s lost 220 languages in past 50 years on Friday August 23, 2013 @06:23AM (#6262622)
The dialect of Indian English takes some grammatical structure from other Indian languages. Some sentences may not be considered technically correct by British English or American English speakers, but are perfectly acceptable by Indian English standards. Some words or terms may have different usages, and pronunciation may differ.

I truly hope so, but who for and what are they likely to be? When many people in the UK read what the tabloid media writes, without questioning it or taking biases into account, if the events are even reported at all. An uninformed electorate is a dangerous thing.
