Similar, differences are: real p2p, native code, arm/ppc/x86 versions. Based on uTorrent, so very effective in terms of memory and speed.

Re:BitTorrent reveals Sync, a new file synchronization tool on Friday January 25, 2013 @10:54AM (#5115949)
Files are stored only on your computers, there is no cloud part. Sync uses p2p to create a cloud from your computers. You will need to care about your setup, to have 24x7 availability of the files.
I like it. I definitely will forget the name, so I made it http://bit.ly/worklist
Re:Ask HN: How did your startup get traction? on Thursday September 09, 2010 @07:51AM (#1675046)
Turn things around. Instead of promoting your main product, create and promote related-to-that-area product that refers to your main product.

As an example, you have a hosting service. Open a site with a lot of web based tools like whoise, traceroute, so you will target right segment and use this tools site to promote your hosting.

Only two out of 43 AV can detect this sample

http://www.virustotal.com/file-scan/report.html?id=d756a1bd9...

Let's see how long will it take for major AV to provide protection.

I agree don't use IP as a part of token - it will require user to re-authenticate very often.

And don't forget about the salt. Store password something like SHA-1(MD5(password)+password)

Re:Rate My App Idea/Landing Page: Kardly.com on Sunday September 05, 2010 @04:01PM (#1665056)
Good idea.

Suggestions: Send not only card, but also envelope to put this card in and preferably address printed on envelope.

Just btw, you could think about sms or e-mail service. So instead of getting card, I will get e-mail or sms, so I could forward it to right person with slight modification in wording.

Ask HN: Silicon Valley faces

I have idea that want to share with HN.When I am visiting some events, I met quite famous people I've heard about, but don't know precisely they background. I.e. companies they financed, what are they interested in. I do have long flights and instead of watching movie, I could train myself to recognize the face and get knowledge about that person as much as I could in advance.I see this as...

Re:Ask HN: no co-founder, no business plan, no funding? on Thursday June 03, 2010 @10:51AM (#1401460)
there are always two sides of the story. You spent a lot of time on that, this is your idea and your fifth kid. So you are scared that it will be stolen away from you.

However one you will pass this fear, and slowly show it to the world, you will face another kind of problem - how to promote your solution and do a PR noise. So you will spend enormous time promoting, publishing talking about the product.

You have nothing to loose.

Ask HN: Totally different password managment solution

Hi HN,We had finished prototype of new password management solution, that is totally different from existing ones.We are looking for early adopters:- who feels that their passwords are not safe;- who is ready to play with beta quality software- preferably ready to share their thoughts and feelings about software.Solution requires you to be a Firefox (Win, Linux, Mac) user and have iPhone. If you...

Re:Ask HN: Are you sure your password is not stolen? on Friday February 12, 2010 @02:29PM (#1121510)
Sure, if the site is compromised than nothing you could know. But this is kind of unlikely in case of major players like banks.

Zero knowledge web app - is nice theoretical approach but I don't see a way it will be adopted anytime soon.

As to mine claims, I will post application when it will be ready, and we could discuss attacks against of it. It will be quite different from clipperz etc.

Re:Ask HN: Are you sure your password is not stolen? on Friday February 12, 2010 @11:43AM (#1120971)
unfortunately I can't share details at the moment.

But one thing i could share - we won't require your passwords, it is just totally wrong from security perspective :)

Re:Ask HN: Are you sure your password is not stolen? on Friday February 12, 2010 @11:23AM (#1120908)
Thanks.

Product is not about insurance, product is exactly about the fact that password is not stolen.

When it is stolen you will know it right away without any probability factor it will be 100% fact.

Ask HN: Are you sure your password is not stolen?

I am looking to start a product around password storage.Have few questions to better understand is there a real demand for such product. Thank you in advance.1. Do you feel safe entering login/password to bank or your critical resources (facebook, twitter etc)?2. Are you concerned that malware could steal password, even anti-virus is installed?3. Do you use any password storage software...

Re:Ask HN: Guitar tabs online on Wednesday January 06, 2010 @08:28AM (#1034669)
Not at this time. We rely on the whole song analisys for much of precision improvements.

There is some literature out there on real-time beat following but the precision is poor so far

Re:Ask HN: Guitar tabs online on Wednesday January 06, 2010 @05:06AM (#1034479)
We hadn't, since this is not an issue so far. CPU is quite cheap, so it is much easier to use cloud than adjust code for GPU.
Re:Ask HN: Guitar tabs online on Tuesday January 05, 2010 @07:02PM (#1033747)
Your guesses are very accurate. We also use the knowledge of music theory, (mostly) western musical patterns and traditions, and employ supervised and unsupervised machine learning.

We are overloaded. Queue right now is 8 - 12 hours.
Re:Ask HN: Guitar tabs online on Tuesday January 05, 2010 @04:29PM (#1033429)
We will have a look.

If you will have this problem constantly just e-mail me at [email protected]

Re:Ask HN: Guitar tabs online on Tuesday January 05, 2010 @04:28PM (#1033424)
We will look to that case. Meanwhile if you don't mind try again later.

You could e-mail me at [email protected] if HTTP problem will persist.
