Arrest the Flock CEO and the board. Start holding companies accountable.
> The fact that both of you feel that way makes me concerned about your worldview.
Like I've stated, there are an unusual amount of authoritarian sympathizers in this forum - though it's possible they are bots. When I first heard of the forum and signed up, it was noticeable and I almost did not stick around, but ultimately decided it was better to know what is going on around the world and the posts here are far better quality than somewhere like reddit. Nothing to do with my worldview, just an observation from being around here for 10+ years. It's nothing personal against you.
> I feel they weren't being genuine in their request
Likely not. I've always been surprised by the amount of authoritarian sympathizers here.

Just about every week there’s news of some kind of ecosystem damage by another negligent company that streams into my RSS feed.
Related, but the American gov recently invaded a country to take its oil while simultaneously shutting down funding for green energy projects. Exhausting.
It’s truly exhausting to know the damage we’ve done to the ecosystem and how many bad actors only concerned with profit are out there preventing it from happening again.
> John Deere
One of those companies that clearly deserved it.
Interesting to see people are still having issues with and are hating on Siri after this newest update. So far I have not been having problems and it works better for me than before. I've even found a few new use cases that have worked wonderfully, like creating Reminders lists or calendar events based on what's on the screen. I still treat Siri like it's dumb though, so perhaps that's the difference.
> I cannot think that you have a lot of experience with all social classes if you think this.
Yeah I really can't take this share by OP seriously and can't help but wonder if the post is on some level clickbait. I keep my circle pretty diverse and have had a few jobs where I interact with people outside of my norm... I've met some people that truly lack in areas that are clearly identifiers of "intelligence": critical thinking, problem solving, memory, communication and social skills... Intelligence can be defined as a lot and yet I still have met some people who are clearly an idiot - and I don't really consider myself to be super intelligent either. After getting into the workforce, I would maybe describe myself as above average but that's only because of the people I've met bringing down the average to below my level.
> project that the AI stole
Seems to be the most reliable description of AI projects thus far.
Republicans have campaigned on discrimination, bigotry, sexism, establishing a dictatorship and punishing dissenters for the last 10~ years minimum - definitely longer than that considering the last century. If someone votes for a candidate campaigning on those things the voter is complicit in those things gaining strength. Stop writing off that behavior and hold them accountable for who they are clearly signaling they are.
The comment makes perfect sense, especially given the current political climate of the US and what Republicans are clearly indicating they want... Not sure what you are on about.
Agree. Near the end of the book I was starting to skim pages
The parasitic rich are so out of touch they want to steal religions next. They also could recognize it makes sense strategically to gain the trust of the religious since that group is generally more vulnerable to manipulation.
> the rest of the market wasn't interested enough to pay the price premium.
Would love a Toyota EV but usually for significantly less I can get a Toyota hybrid with more space. Both my partner's and my vehicles are Toyota hybrid crossovers but we looked for an EV first and realized we simply couldn't justify the extreme price difference for how little our cars are driven. Really hoping when our time for a new vehicle comes we can trade in both for one reasonably priced EV crossover - so hopefully the rest of the planet can continue pushing the EV market forward while the US lags way behind.
> in prison.
Personally I think people should start taking them personally to court via class action lawsuits. Prison would be a bonus, but crushing them financially would be the most effective.
Smart lights are pretty darn nice. Having all exterior lights come on every sunset and turn off every sunrise is stellar - and that's not even getting into the great setup I have indoors.
There really is a limit to what smart devices a house "needs" vs what is absolutely unnecessary. Fridges, washers, dryers and stoves absolutely do not need to be smart. Smart lights, smart locks, smart garage doors and security systems (if those can be considered smart in this context) are all chill in my opinion, but the rest I simply don't understand the "why" of the product. Smart tvs were a decent idea, but that clearly went to shit quickly and now dumb tvs aren't even available anymore in styles like OLED - which is extremely frustrating.
Normally I’m not one to blame the victims but, uh, yeah who in the world is dumb enough to trust Meta at this point?
So far after using agents and having built an agent, the "AI will destroy humanity" argument seems to be a marketing ploy so these companies that lied about LLM's capabilities and received billions in investments can artificially "slow down progress" after running into some serious limitations. I'm not expert and won't claim to be, but that just sounds like the reality at the moment. Will AI cause some serious harm to the job market and cause more wealth disparity though? So far all signs point to yes.
What an opinion to have when thus far evidence has concluded the opposite. Just because funding for the infrastructure keeps getting derailed, delayed and lied about by bad actors doesn’t make the anti-renewable parrots correct. There are situations where —at minimum- hybrid solutions are far more viable options but for many locations just those two solutions work very well.
> an additional few hundred miles just isn't that useful anymore.
Bad take.
Old reddit is still around but reddit's leadership made statements lately suggesting we should expect old reddit to start sunsetting. For me, old reddit constantly flips to the crappy new reddit and within the 10-20 minutes/2-3 days I spend looking at it I have to manually revert my preference back to see old reddit maybe twice a week - despite old reddit already being set as the preference. To me, that signals they want users on new reddit, which I dislike, so I'd actually just leave the site entirely without old reddit. It's already gone severely down hill in the last 5 or so years to the point I barely use it.
Hyperbole is Apple’s favorite communication style, but at this point it’s so overused that it’s just a meaningless meme. Apple’s wearable competitors blow the Apple Watch’s battery life out of the water and it’s not even close. Hyperbole is all Apple has in this race.
> With fast charging, battery life hasn't been an issue
I sold my 10 last year and haven’t missed it. You don’t have reasonable access to a charger during a marathon or a long hike, the latter of which needed me to charge my Apple Watch 3 times over the course of 12 hours of hiking.
Yeah I've already decided there won't be any new Sony consoles in my household. Games are so big now I can't possibly download all my games at once so if the store goes down I lose all those games permanently and $70+ for AAA games that are really hit and miss in the "fun" category is no longer worth it to me. The PS5 was also pretty darn expensive when it came out and I can't say I've played too many PS5
exclusive games since I bought it. Most of the PS5 catalog has been indie games available on Steam or ported PS4 games... and with Sony reportedly releasing a new console next year they are clearly high on their own supply.
Never thought I'd have this opinion, but the gaming industry as is needs to crash/burn and rebuild itself. So many downright wild anti-consumer things happening in the last 10 years and studios have completely lost sight of how to keep themselves out of bankruptcy.
It's possible. I grabbed the numbers from Claude to save some time, highly possible Claude pulled the wrong numbers.
In order to be defined as a planet, an object needs to meet 3 criteria:
- Orbits a star (Pluto does and I assume that's what you were asking about)
- The object has enough mass to pull itself into a sphere (meets this criteria)
- The object has enough gravity to have cleared its nearby orbit of debris and other objects
Neither Pluto nor Eris qualify for a planet because of that last one and, like I mentioned, the Moon has more mass than Pluto and Eris. The Kuiper belt objects all have this issue, but my point was that dwarf planets are pretty small - especially compared to other objects around Sol. If you walked non-stop around the Moon it would take 91 days compared to Pluto's 62 days and Eris's 61 days.
The designation of dwarf planet is not that big of a deal imo.
In case anyone was curious, the Moon is bigger than Pluto. Pluto's 2/3 the size of the Moon. If any dwarf planet should be upgraded to a planet, it's Eris. Eris's diameter is over 600km bigger than Pluto's.
